Ask for your city, town, or give it its looks

Request a city or town

Tell us the city and state. If you already know local sites that publish a public calendar, send those too. That is the slow part of adding somewhere new. A couple of good links can make it go faster.

Smaller towns are welcome. Coverage there is often thinner, but that can be where a single feed is worth the most.

Request a category

If what you go out for does not fit the categories on a city page, say so, and say what you would call it. Categories are shared across every city, so a good one helps everywhere at once. I can't guarantee a reliable filter for categories but I will try my best and add it if it filters consistently.

Send a photo for your city

City pages draw their whole color scheme from a photo of that city, picking a different one each visit. More photos means a page that looks like the place, and livens it up!

Photos we'd like

• Landscape, the biggest clean version you have. JPEG or PNG.
• Skylines, bridges, streets, parks, weather, light. Anything that reads as your city at a glance. Landmarks encouraged as well.
• Color matters more than sharpness here. The palette gets pulled out of it, so a photo with real light in it goes a long way.

We cannot use

• Photos you did not take. You have to hold the copyright yourself. Pulled from a search, a friend's camera, or a stock site: sorry but no.
• No identifiable people. No recognizable faces, and nobody as the subject of the shot. Distant, incidental crowds are fine.
• Children, in any form, identifiable or not.
• Pets and other people's animals.
• Murals, street art, sculpture and other public artwork. The artwork carries its own copyright even when it is on a public wall. Incidental in the background is fine. A lot of street art is what gives our homes flavor but as the sole subject, no.
• Private homes, house numbers, and license plates. Nothing that pins down where a particular person lives or parks.
• Interiors of private property.
• Logos and branding as the subject. A shopfront in a street scene or something like a community center, historic building, is fine; a photo of a business' sign is not.
• AI-generated or heavily composited images. The point is that it is really your city.

What happens to your photo submission

• You keep the copyright. Sending it grants permission to show it on your city's page, credited to whatever name or handle you ask for.
• Location data and other metadata are stripped before it is published on the page.
• It gets resized and re-encoded, and a color palette is pulled from it to theme the page.
• Say the word as the contributor and it comes down, no reason needed. Same if anyone raises a fair objection to a photo.
