About CalDiscovery
CalDiscovery is a free, independent site for local events. Most event sites I've found only show the big ticketed shows, because that's where the ad money is. CalDiscovery works the other way around. It goes out and finds the calendars that venues, galleries, record stores, community centers, and neighborhood spots publish themselves. Then it brings them together so you can see what's happening near you on one site with source links included.
I started this project out of a simple want: to just know what's going on without digging through websites and sponsored search results. I want to open my calendar, flip on a calendar type, and see what's happening. On road trips, when I've got time to fill, I want to open it and just pick something to do. Sitting and searching for things had just gotten frustrating.
CalDiscovery reads the event calendars that local places already publish, and uses open data from OpenStreetMap to find them. Every listing links back to where it came from, so you can always go straight to the venue or calendar host and get more details. It's live for many US cities and growing, with thousands of upcoming events.
There are no ads, no accounts, no paywall and no tracking beyond an anonymous page count. It runs on hardware I own and maintain.
I build and run this on my own. If it's helped you find something to do, you can help keep it independent and free. I hope it draws calendar users out into their communities, and that those communities reach more people with an accessible place to be found.
