The Meaning of the Midterms: A Conversation with Representatives Suzan DelBene and Adam Smith Join us for Seattle University’s Fall Conversations program on Monday, November 16, at 11:30am, featuring special guests U.S. Reps. Suzan DelBene (WA-1) and Adam Smith (WA-9). After a contentious and historic midterm election, the voters have spoken. In an on-stage live interview, Smith and DelBene will discuss the practical implications of what happens next. How might the hard-fought election offer meaningful improvements in the everyday lives of Washingtonians, and what does it mean for the balance of power nationally? DelBene, as chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, is one of the engineers of the 2026 “Blue Wave” and will share her insights as to what drove undeniable voter sentiment. Smith, the presumptive incoming chair of the powerful U.S. House Armed Services Committee, will enlighten the audience about how new House leadership might alter the course of two wars and strive to improve relationships with countries around the world. Together these two lawmakers bring their abundant experience and knowledge about how this election will impact our residents and our state. The interview will be conducted by Seattle journalist Joni Balter, professional-in-residence at Seattle University, and SU student Matthew Cessna. The program begins at 11:30 am on Monday, Nov. 16 in Seattle University’s Oberto Commons. This event is free and open to the public. Please RSVP and avoid bringing large bags if possible (there will be a security screening at the door for bags). Sponsored by the College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences and the Department of Public Affairs, Arts and Nonprofit Leadership.
