Description from the publisher
Advocate for Free Tax Prep Campaign Funding Background: The Seattle Mayor’s office recently released its 2027-2028 proposed budget, and over the next two months, the City Council will weigh community input as it decides what to prioritize before the budget is finalized around November 20th. The proposed budget funds many exciting programs that support our neighbors, but unfortunately, it does not include a key funding source for United Way’s free tax preparation services in Seattle. We’re trying to change that, and we could use your help! What to Expect: Join us at City Hall at 4:30 PM on 11/5, wearing a United Way shirt if you have one! We’ll try to have some additional sizes available, but it’s completely OK if we aren’t all wearing matching shirts. Once we arrive, we’ll go through security and find seating in the audience. United Way of King County and a few of our community partners will take the microphone during public testimony to speak about the city budget and the importance of approximately $110,000 in funding for our 2027 free tax preparation campaign. Our team and partners will be the ones speaking, so you do not need to prepare anything or speak yourself. We’re asking you to join us as a supportive audience and help show that this work has people behind it. While we wait for our turn, you’ll also hear from other community members and organizations sharing what they need from the city budget. It’s a chance to see democracy and advocacy in action and to show up together for United Way and the community we serve. Can’t make it in person? We can still use your help! Use the council email to send a message directly to all of Seattle councilmembers: council@seattle.gov
