 ive\nJan Smith Castronuovo\nJune 4 – ARTober 30\, 2026\nIt brings me suc
 h joy to see many of these pieces from 20+ years ago\, out of storage & up
  on the walls here at Bethany. This lets me see not only how far I’ve co
 me\, but how some things haven’t changed much at all. The technique used
  in the older black & white pieces is “woodcut collage” printed by han
 d on Japanese paper. Interim works combine woodcut collage with acrylic pa
 int on canvas. The newest works are digital photo collage\, either on pape
 r or canvas. \nTHEN \\ NOW focuses on relationships—with the individual
  self & with family members—being a wife\, mother\, sister\, daughter\, 
 cousin—& the struggle to maintain that individual spirit within\, as out
 er needs from others become more complex. This exhibit is about finding & 
 expressing Self-Love\, celebrating creativity from that deep meditative we
 llspring found inside each of us. Thank you one & all for hearing me out &

 ter’s degrees from the University of Wisconsin—an MS in Industrial Tec

 86). Her bachelor’s degree in Fine Art is from Florida A&M University\, 
 Tallahassee\, FL (1979). She is proud to be an HBCU graduate. In 2015\, sh
 e founded Heart Within the Art\, LLC\, her Westchester-based fine arts bus

 tement:\n \n\n\nI photograph what's close to home. You don't need to trav
 el somewhere famous to find something worth stopping for.  A heron workin
 g the shallows\, a fox crossing a field at first light\, the few minutes w
 hen the sunrise turns the sky pink. Most of this work comes out of early m
 orning walks with a camera\, going slowly and just looking around. My work
  is about paying attention to the ordinary places we drive past every day.
 \nArtist Bio:\nI've lived in Westchester most of life and have been photog
 raphing its birds and wildlife for over twenty-five years. I'm self-taught
 \; everything I know came from walking the same places over and over\, in 
 every season and every kind of light\, and learning what each one has to o
 ffer. Most of these photographs were taken close by - Marshlands Conservan
 cy\, the Edith G. Read Wildlife Sanctuary\, Silver Lake Preserve\, and Mal
 fitano Park in Harrison.

 intent is to reflect where\neach artist is in their practice at this parti
 cular moment. These pieces come from current series\, ongoing explorations
 \, new directions\, and ideas still unfolding. What happens when we enter 
 our studios? What are we thinking about\, experimenting with\, returning t
 o\, or trying for\nthe first time? What is inspiring us now? By opening ou
 r doors\, we invite visitors in. Together\, these works offer a snapshot o
 f the artists who are creating at Bethany today. These individual practice
 s are brought together by a shared place\, creative energy\, and community
 . \nAlso join us in viewing our collaborative installation! This installat
 ion celebrates the beauty of being different while still being\ntogether. 
 Fifty 5 × 5-inch wooden panels were donated and distributed to artists in
  our community. The only requirement was simple: make sure it is in your v

 hat captures who is here now and what each person brings to this community
 . There is something special about the way we show up at Bethany for ourse

DESCRIPTION:Landforms Joseph Squillante and Joel Brown – Beacon Artist U
 nion\nThis two-person exhibition brings together the ceramic sculpture of 
 BAU Gallery artist Joel Brown and the dynamic photographic work of Joseph 
 Squillante.\nAcclaimed Hudson River photographer Squillante steps beyond t
 he Hudson to explore landscapes near and far: the Grand Canyon\, Susquehan
 na River\, Point Lobos\, and Sardinia\, capturing compositions of individu
 al forms to create a visual balance and gentle rhythm. Squillante hopes th
 e exhibition allows viewers to stop and look slowly\, feel the landscape
 ’s quiet architecture\, and enter a shared act of seeing.\nBrown takes t
 he process of making work as his sculptural focus\, rather than beginning 
 with an image or narrative. His pieces are coiled\, paddled\, cut\, and wo
 od fired. After completion\, the array on view here reminded Brown of the 
 Carrara marble quarries photographed by Edward Burtynsky.\nJoseph Squillan
 te has photographed the Hudson River since 1975 in fine-art and documentar
 y style\, capturing the river’s beauty\, challenges\, and champions whil
 e raising public awareness for the river as a critical natural resource. I
 n 2026 ArtsWestchester honored Squillante with its Artist of the Year awar
 d and in 2025 the Hudson River Museum celebrated his 50-year milestone wit
 h the retrospective exhibition Lens on the Hudson.\nJoel Brown’s ceramic
  design is rooted in his study with Stanislawa Nowicki at the University o
 f Pennsylvania over 50 years ago. His undergraduate degree was followed by
  a master's in architecture from the Harvard University Graduate School of
  Design. For his ceramic influences he credits the Peters Valley School of
  Craft\, workshops with Peter Callas and Joyce Michaud\, and Steven Hill
 ’s Journey Workshop. He gained wood-firing experience at the kilns of Ro
 ger Baumann\, Dan Greenfeld\, Kristin Muller\, Peters Valley\, and others.

 lla\, Breana’s work features multi-layered and textured surfaces\, with 
 colorful motifs and imagery that shape a personal narrative. Visit the sho

 io\nBreana Ferreira (she/her) was born and raised in Southern California a
 nd received her BFA in Ceramics in the Spring of 2022 from the University 
 of North Texas. Her process integrates traditional ceramic practices with 
 the two-dimensional arts to develop personal and cultural narrative throug
 h sculpted still-lifes and utilitarian form. She has worked as an educator
  and Resident Artist in association with a variety of arts organizations a
 nd crafts schools within the United States and was recently selected as on
 e of Ceramic Monthly’s 2026 Emerging Artists. Breana is currently making
  and working amongst the Beartooth Mountains of Red Lodge\, MT in associat
 ion with the Red Lodge Clay Center as their new Programs Coordinator.\nArt
 ist Statement\nBreana’s practice fixates on ceramics as active participa
 nts in routine and ritual\, as conduits for introspection\, and as vessels
  for personal and cultural narrative. She reflects most on the intimacy of
  utilitarian objects\, the crooked charm of the handbuilt form\, and the p
 reservation of perfect imperfection where the hand disrupts and distorts. 
 Through the celebratory practice of adornment\, Breana embraces maximalist
  tendencies indulging in rich layers of texture\, color\, and imagery\, ut
 ilizing pattern\, print\, and iconography in dialogue with form. Sculpted 
 still-life and vessel alike\, her objects embody personal reflections on m
 emory\, identity\, and space influenced most by her multicultural roots an

 aveling across the country asking people a seemingly simple question: “W
 hat’s it like for you to be an American?” Each participant sat for a f
 ormal portrait made with an 8×10 large-format camera and was invited to w
 rite their answer on a single notebook page.\nTraveling approximately 20\,
 000 miles across the country\, Kalman made nearly 500 portraits. Paired wi
 th handwritten responses expressing pride\, gratitude\, anger\, frustratio
 n\, ambivalence\, and more\, the portraits reveal both the commonalities a
 nd differences that shape contemporary American identity.\nThe exhibition

 hy’s artwork. The use of vibrant paints has always enriched her and left
  her with a feeling of peaceful happiness. Bold colors can’t help but ca
 pture the viewer when they enter a room. \n\n\n\nThe figures\, animals an
 d landscapes come alive through the excitement and passion of color. The v
 ividness of the canvases helps convey the story\, meaning and emotion of t
 he paintings. \n\n\n\nMs. Cancellieri has taught art and yoga enrichment 
 programs in elementary schools throughout Westchester County. She has been
  a member of the Mamaroneck Artist’s Guild since 1988. Her Works have be
 en shown in numerous exhibits including the Upstream Gallery in Dobbs Ferr
 y and the Brother Chapman Gallery at Iona College.

 hot\, and sunny Canada Day! \n      July 1st has special meaning to me for
  so many complicated and joyful feelings... I like to pick'em\, as they sa
 y\, and so I should celebrate this first anniversary of Slip Studio with y
 ou! \n      On July 1st\, I began this adventure\, unbeknownst to me\, sig
 ning a lease on a new pottery studio that would become my own. A community
  of strangers turned friends\, students\, and artists... I am so happy you
  are here! \n      As for news and updates... I've decided to dedicate my 
 summer to moi and my art. I am delighted to share that I received an ARTS 
 ALIVE grant from Art Westchester and will be spending my summer diving dee
 per into my personal work. This grant allows me to take some time to explo
 re ideas that have been percolating and serves as a kick-in-the-butt push 
 to create. So let's see what happens!! \n      I'll be spending my morning
 s in the studio making\, while members will be free to work alongside. \n 
      Afternoons will be dedicated to DROP_IN STUDIO TIME. You've asked for
  it\, so I'm giving it a try! No-instruction studio time - open to the pub
 lic. What can possibly go wrong?! LOL \n      FALL CLASSES are posted and 
 ready for you to take a peek and make a plan. Four hand-building classes\,

 ting Indonesian cuisine with Selvia Tjandra-Stothers and Chef Shandra Wowo

 d I was so happy to welcome them into the studio. \n        We started bra
 instorming loads of different culinary adventures\, so stay tuned for more

DESCRIPTION:Embark on a captivating tour of the night sky as seen from our
  area\, featuring visible planets\, bright stars\, seasonal constellations
 \, periodic comets\, upcoming rocket launches\, and more!\nOn August 12\, 
 a total solar eclipse will sweep along the western coast of Iceland\, Nort
 hern Spain\, and the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea. While the 
 US will not experience a total eclipse\, in Yonkers the Sun will be partia
 lly obscured for about an hour and a half in the early afternoon. Learn al
 l about total eclipses and when\, where\, and how to safely view this ecli
 pse.\nIn September\, you can see the Milky Way directly overhead just afte
 r sunset. We’ll look at the busy\, dusty Galactic Center\, with its fren
 etic dance of a dozen bright stars around the central black hole\, out to 
 the quieter galactic hinterlands and space beyond.\nRecommended for ages 8
 +\; 60-minute live and interactive show. Advance ticket purchase is encour
