When Mimi realizes love has not made him hers\, she turns to Mar ie Laveau\, the legendary 19th-century New Orleans spiritual leader who wa s both a lifelong Roman Catholic and the city’s most renowned Voudou pri estess. \nWhat first appears to be a house gathering reveals itself as a N ew Orleans jazz funeral. It is not only a farewell to Kidd Bunky\, but als o a collective act of release\, honoring the people\, traditions\, and mom ents that shape us even as they move beyond our grasp. \nInspired by Arthu r Hall’s groundbreaking 1977 production Fat Tuesday & All That Jazz\, this new work explores Black Mardi Gras\, Black Masking traditions\, New O rleans ritual life\, jazz\, and cultural survival.
