DESCRIPTION:Creative Writing Thrives in Greenburgh! \nDoes your child love
to read and write stories? Or do you know a child who does? September 19t
h is the kickoff date for the fall 2026 session of Saturday morning Kids S
hort Story Connection workshops. Thirty-three years ago\, the very first K
SSC workshop was held in the Greenburgh Library with 10 kids between 9 and
12 years old. Today\, the Kids Short Story Connection meets at Greenburgh
Town Hall (as well as over the Zoom platform). Young writers are assigned
to workshops according to age and writing levels. This separation ensures
that young writers meet in our round-table sessions with their creative-w
riting peers. All workshops are led by published authors/teachers. Each wo
rkshop has no more than 10 participants. This ensure that there is enough
time for writing and sharing of work written during the workshop sessions.
The two in-person workshops for kids between 9 and 14 meet at Greenburgh
Town Hall on Saturday mornings from 10 am until 12 noon. The Advanced work
shop for advanced writers 14 and over meets over the Zoom platform at the
 same time.

DESCRIPTION:Public art has been growing in Westchester County for years\,
with investment from bothpublic and private sectors. Executing public art
well requires understanding how itworks\, what the standards of practice a
re\, and the range of approaches available —from murals and sculptures t
o artist residencies and creative placemaking. This half-dayevent will ins
pire attendees with work happening in and around Westchester\, explorehow
public art supports economic and community development\, and connect agenc
ieswith peers doing similar work in the region. It is designed for both pu
blic and privateagencies with experience in public art as well as those lo
oking to incorporate it intoupcoming projects.\n\n\n\nPresentation Topics:
\n\n\n\nWhat's Possible: Types of Artworks and ProgramsPublic art is far b
roader than a sculpture in a plaza. This session surveys the range of what
public art can be—from permanent installations and integrated architectu
ral works to temporaryprojects. Participants will gain a working vocabular
y for the field and a clearer sense of whichapproaches best fit their goal
 s\, sites\, budgets\, and communities.\n\n\n\nWho Does the Work: Decision-
Making and ProcessesSuccessful public art begins with clear roles and a de
fined process. This session introduces theframeworks that guide who makes
decisions—from selecting artists to approving designs—andhow to struct
ure a process that is transparent\, equitable\, and accountable. Participa
nts willlearn how governments and developers can establish review panels\,
involve community voices\,and set policies that keep projects moving whil
e protecting the integrity of artistic and publicinterests.\n\n\n\nBeginni
ng with the End in Mind: Preservation and Long-Term PlanningA public artwo
rk's life extends far beyond its installation. This session addresses theo
ften-overlooked responsibilities of stewardship: maintenance\, conservatio
 n\, funding forlong-term care\, and planning for a work's eventual repair\
, relocation\, or retirement. Participantswill learn why these considerati
ons belong at the start of a project — not the end — and howthoughtful
planning protects both the investment and the public's trust\n\n\n\nHoste
