DESCRIPTION:Farm Aid partners with ViBe Creative District to bring mural t
o Old Beach Farmers Market \nThe ViBe Creative District has partnered with
Farm Aid to create a new farmers’ market inspired mural on 18th Street
next to the weekly Old Beach Farmers Market. Farm Aid featured artist Pame
la Bliss\, of Indiana will paint alongside Hampton Roads artist Jazzmyn El
lis for two weeks to complete the mural. The mural will feature Farm Aid
’s 2026 logo\, featuring many of the farm products Virginia farmers offe
r\, as well as farmers market products such as fish\, tomatoes\, sunflower
s\, eggs and other produce found weekly at the Saturday morning market. \n
\nFarm Aid 2026 is coming to Virginia Beach to rock for family farmers
on Saturday\, September 26\, at Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater. T
he lineup features Willie Nelson & Family\, Neil Young & the Chrome Hear
 ts\, John Mellencamp\, Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds\, Margo Price\, Nathan
iel Rateliff\, Turnpike Troubadours\, Lukas Nelson\, Ty Myers\, Mike Campb
 ell & The Dirty Knobs\, Jesse Welles\, Sierra Ferrell\, Mon Rovîa\, I’m
With Her\, Amythyst Kiah\, Lily Meola\, Chris Pierce and the Wisdom India
n Dancers. \n  \nThe festival will highlight the vital role that family f
armers play in their communities – growing food\, strengthening local ec
onomies and helping sustain the places we call home. Family farmers are cu
rrently facing the most serious threats to their livelihoods since the 198
0s Farm Crisis. Farmers are navigating economic volatility\, policy uncert
ainty and consolidation\, all of which harm both farmers and their communi
ties because they are so closely linked. \n  \nAttendees will experience
farmers’ contributions firsthand via HOMEGROWN Concessions®\, which off
ers a delicious and fresh menu with ingredients that are grown or raised b
y farmers who use ecological practices and are paid a fair price. Farm Aid
’s HOMEGROWN Village features hands-on activities engaging festivalgoers
  with exhibits about soil\, water\, energy\, food and farming. \n  \nFarm
Aid reached out to the ViBe Creative District several months ago to offer
a community give back mural that would pair featured artist Pamela Bliss
with an up-and-coming Hampton Roads artist. The ViBe Creative District sel
ected artist Jazzmyn Ellis who frequents ViBe’s First Friday series and
who has previously painted live at events representing ViBe. \n  \n“Far
m Aid is thrilled to partner with the ViBe District\, and with Pamela and
Jazzmyn on this meaningful mural\,” said Michael Stewart Foley\, Farm Ai
d’s Cultural Impact Director. “The success of family farms and the we
llbeing of communities are closely linked\, and this mural highlights that
connection next to the Old Beach Farmers Market\, one of the best example
s of a thriving community-based food system that values its farmers.” \n
\nOld Beach Farmers Market Chair Jeremy Maloney is sponsoring the mural
through his architecture firm\, Altruistic Design. “The ViBe Creative D
istrict and Old Beach Farmers Market are incredibly special to me\, and I
’ve always had a passion for supporting our farmers\, small businesses a
nd creative community\,” said Maloney. “It’s an honor to connect Far
m Aid’s national advocacy efforts with the work happening right here in
Virginia Beach. The Mural will be a vibrant reminder of that connection an
d an incredible backdrop for every Old Beach Farmers Market.” \n  \nThe
public can watch the mural come to life by visiting 604 18th Street (Lowe
Auto) which is directly next to the Old Beach Farmers Market location for
weekly Saturday events. Artists Pamela Bliss and Jazzmyn Ellis will be on
site daily through September 27th until the mural is completed. ViBe will
also coordinate a live onsite fence mural painting at Veterans United Home
Loans Amphitheater at Virginia Beach on Saturday\, September 26\, during
Farm Aid 2026 for festival-goers to help paint. A limited number of Farm A
 id 2026 tickets are available\; visit farmaid.org to learn more. \n  \nTh
is mural partnership is a walk up to ViBe’s 9th Annual ViBe Mural Festiv
al taking place Oct 2-11\, 2026 where 10 murals are painted in 10 days all
throughout the district. Named one of the “52 Places to visit in 2026\,
” the ViBe Creative District is Virginia Beach’s cultural enclave. \n

y in other styles. She creates large scale exterior murals and small-scale
interior murals and canvas works. She has painted large figurative works
including Reggie Miller\, John Mellencamp and Kurt Vonnegut along with oth
er subject matter including animate and inanimate objects. A longtime fami

a Virginia Beach based mural. You can view her work on Facebook at Pamela
Bliss Art FX. More information at Pamela Bliss \nJazzmyn Ellis is a Virg
inia based artist known for her vivid and surreal portraits. She highlight
s people of color for their contributions in popular culture while also em
phasizing societal and political contradictions. Topics range from gender
roles\, spiritual warfare\, racial conversions all with a layer of comedic
awareness. She mostly uses acrylic paint and spray paint when bringing po
rtraits to life. Specializing in mostly portraits\, she is a self-taught a

sion is to build a vibrant\, family farm-centered system of agriculture in
America. Farm Aid artists and board members Willie Nelson\, Neil Young\,
John Mellencamp\, Dave Matthews\, Margo Price and Nathaniel Rateliff host
an annual festival to raise funds to support Farm Aid’s work with family
farmers and to inspire people to choose family farm food. Since 1985\, Fa
rm Aid\, with the support of the artists who contribute their performances
each year\, has raised more than $90 million to support programs that hel
p farmers thrive\, expand the reach of the Good Food Movement\, take actio
n to change the dominant system of industrial agriculture and promote food
  from family farms. \n  \n  \nAbout the Old Beach Farmers Market:\nOld B
each Farmers Market (OBFM) is a fresh outdoor marketplace in the heart of
the resort area\, just six blocks from the ocean and one block from the Vi
rginia Beach Convention Center\, on 18th Street between Cypress and Medite
rranean Avenues. The market features seasonal fresh fruits and vegetables\
 , meats (pork\, bison\, beef\, chicken\, turkey\, sausages\, charcuterie)\
 , eggs\, seafood\, cheeses\, a wide assortment of baked goods (biscuits\,
pies\, cakes\, brownies and cookies)\, artisanal breads\, and savory foods
  from local chefs (pasta\, sauces\, salsas\, salads\, tamales)\, soap\, an
d flowers. Founded in 2008\, Old Beach Farmers Market is run entirely by v
olunteers as an independent 501(c)6 organization. We support local family
farms\, watermen\, and Virginia wineries. Old Beach Farmers Market is a ce
 rtified Virginia Green market\, encouraging eco-friendly practices. \n  \

DESCRIPTION:Join Rowen Schmidt\, a wetland delineator with the U.S. Army C
orps of Engineers\, for an immersive exploration of the wetlands! Discover
the fascinating ecology of the Tidewater Region’s salt marshes and gain
hands-on experience learning about how climate\, geology\, and other fact
ors shape these vital ecosystems. \nThis is a unique opportunity to get yo
ur hands dirty—literally! Participants will be provided gloves and are e
ncouraged to wear closed-toe shoes or boots\, as a muddy adventure awaits.
\nRowen Schmidt is a wetland delineator with the U.S. Army Corps of Engin
eers where they work with the Clean Water Act. They have led environmental
education programs since 2017 and enjoy working at the intersection of sc
 ience\, policy\, and public resources. \n  \nWorkshop One: Hydrology –
July 18 @ 10am: This workshop is all about understanding hydrology—how
water moves and changes over time. We’ll explore signs of water\, such
as surface water\, flooding\, wet soil\, and other clues that show where w
ater has been. We’ll explore the park’s wetland area to see these sign
s up close. Then\, we’ll move away from the water to discover how the si
gns of water change further from it. \nWorkshop Two: Hydrophytic Vegetatio
 n – August 15 @ 10am: In this workshop\, you’ll learn about plants t
hat grow in wet areas and how they’ve adapted to live in these condition
 s over time. Throughout the park\, we’ll visit different spots—some w
et and some dry. You’ll help survey all kinds of plants\, including tree
s\, shrubs\, vines\, and small plants\, to see if they have any water-rela
 ted adaptations. \nWorkshop Three: Hydric Soil – September 19 @ 10am: E
xplore a unique type of soil that forms in areas with long-term water pres
ence. Waterlogged conditions remove oxygen from the soil\, leading to fasc
inating changes. By examining these changes\, you’ll learn about indica
tors of hydric soils. With tools like soil probes and shovels\, we’ll i
nvestigate wet soils and compare these findings to drier areas\, study soi
l types like sandy and loamy\, and test how soil reacts during specific ex
periments. \n  \nTarget Audience: Ages 16 and up. Participants aged 12
–16 must be accompanied by an adult guardian. \nCost: \n\nFull Series

By affiliating with the JAM organization\, each program is eligible to rec

opportunities to not only learn traditional music\, but to also perform i

n music by ear\, as to preserve oral traditions as much as possible. Other
teaching methodologies and instructional skills are covered in regional p

and hosted by JAM. JAM also encourages student engagement across programs
with regional performance and learning activities throughout the year. Fo
