DESCRIPTION:The Polygon Gallery presents the first major survey of Greg Gi
rard\, one of Canada’s most influential contemporary photographers\, fro
 m July 10–Oct. 25\, 2026. \nThe exhibition presents more than 160 photo
graphs spanning the past half century\, including never-before-seen outtak
es from his iconic photobooks\, and traces his evolution as an artist. The
show unfolds chronologically beginning with some of the earliest images G
irard took as a teenager in 1970s Vancouver. The exhibition then follows h
is footsteps as he traveled down the West Coast and beyond\, landing as a
freelance journalist in Asia and contributing to publications like Time Ma
gazine where he was oftentimes at the front line of civil unrest and confl
ict. \nFollowers of Girard’s work will recognize images from the now-dem
olished Kowloon Walled City and Shanghai — and will discover that in add
ition to his urban landscapes\, he has a mastery of portraiture. The exhib
ition provides a sense of how he moved through the world\, and ends on his
most recent photographs as he revisits the subject of the Lower Mainland\
, with shots of North Vancouver and Surrey included. The exhibition will o
pen simultaneously as the launch of his new publication Greg Girard – Ph
otographs 1972–2026. \nAdmission to The Polygon Gallery is by donation\,

DESCRIPTION:Discover how Carson Ting uses creative systems to make more am
bitious work — without simply working harder. \nWhat if the most valuabl
e thing you could create wasn’t the work itself…but the system behind
it? \nCarson Ting is an award-winning artist\, designer\, and creative dir
 ector whose work spans illustration\, branding\, advertising\, public art\
, and large-scale collaborations. \nHe’s created work for brands like Ni
ke and the NBA — and was recently named an official FIFA World Cup 2026
™ Artist representing Canada. \nBut after decades of creating\, Carson h
as started thinking beyond the individual project.\nWhat if\, instead of s
tarting from scratch each time\, you built a system that helps you generat
e new work again and again? \nFor Carson\, systems are a way to work smart
er — giving creative people a repeatable way to develop ideas and produc
e stronger work without simply putting in more hours. \nYou don’t have t
o solve every creative problem from scratch \nOn Sept 24\, Carson will sha
re his approach to building systems for creative work. \nIf you are a comm
 ercial creative working in branding\, marketing\, design\, advertising\, o
r technology\, attend this Talk + Social to discover: \n– How Carson thi
nks about systems as part of the creative process.\n– How to stop approa
ching every new project from a blank page.\n– How to build your own crea
tive system for developing and producing ideas. \nThen\, Carson will guide
the room through a live experiment: we’ll collectively build a creative
system and use it to create something together. \nJoin Creative Pulse for
drinks and pizza with talented local creatives — and leave with a diffe
rent way to think about how you make creative work. \nCost: CA$20.41 \nTic

DESCRIPTION:While chapbooks can be meticulously crafted from handmade pape
r\, adorned with intricate bindings\, and embellished with countless artis
tic details\, they can also emerge from the simplest materials at hand—f
 ormed quickly\, intuitively\, and with a spirit of experimentation.\n\nIn
this workshop at Enabling Arts\, participants will explore the art and pos
sibilities of chapbook-making through poetry\, language\, and creative pra
ctice. Using multilingual chapbooks as inspiration\, we will write new poe
ms\, examine a diverse collection of chapbooks from different traditions a
nd styles\, and learn three foundational chapbook folds. The remarkable va
riety of chapbook forms reflects the rich diversity of languages and lived
experiences across Turtle Island\, while poetry offers a space where thes
 e voices can meet\, intersect\, and resonate.\n\nThrough close examination
of multilingual poems and the craft choices behind them\, participants wi
ll revise and refine their own writing while considering how the physical
form of a chapbook can deepen and extend the meaning of their work.\n\nBy
the end of the workshop\, each participant will leave with a selection of
favourite chapbooks from the sample collection\, as well as their own hand
made chapbook—folded\, sewn\, collaged\, and shaped according to their u
nique creative vision—containing an original poem.\n\nWriter-in-Residenc
 e\n\nKevin Spenst (he/him) is a poet\, editor\, performer\, musician\, and
chapbook artist whose multidisciplinary practice explores the intersectio
ns of language\, community\, and creative expression. He is the author of
four full-length poetry collections and nineteen chapbooks. His forthcomin
 g book\, Stanley Park Manor: A Collective History (Anvil Press\, fall 2026
)\, brings together lyric essays\, neighbour interviews\, and personal nar
ratives to create a layered portrait of place and community. He is also a

DESCRIPTION:Are you curious about rascally raccoons? Despite the common pe
rception that raccoons are highly intelligent\, formal investigation into
raccoon behaviour and cognition is in its infancy. Join us on September 24
to delve into raccoon cognition with Hannah Griebling\, a PhD candidate f
rom the Animal Behavior and Cognition Lab in the Department of Forest & Co
nservation Sciences.\n\nIn this presentation\, Hannah will discuss what we
know about raccoon behavior and cognition\, from sociality\, to problem s
olving\, to self control. She will also discuss how these cognitive and be
havioral traits help raccoons adapt to urban life\, and how our understand
ing of raccoon cognition can help us conserve other species in BC.\n\nThis
presentation will take place online via Zoom.  On the Monday preceding t
he event\, Nature Vancouver members will receive the Zoom link in the week
ly e-News.  The talk will begin at 7:30 pm.  Non-members are welcome and
should Email zoom-request@NatureVancouver.ca between the preceding Friday
and Wednesday to register for the link.

DESCRIPTION:ATI Vancouver welcomes you to Canada! Vancouver is a melting p
ot for so many immigrants from all over the world. The percentage of India
ns migrating to Canada has increased tremendously in the last ten years. \
nBefore you begin your next big chapter\, take a look at the four major ti
ps to help you with your journey in your new country. These tips can help
you settle faster in Canada. \n1. Join Professional Platforms \nThe most c
ommon professional platforms in Canada are used not only for job seeking b
ut also to interact like-minded individuals and people working in similar
industries as you. Platforms like Indeed\, Workopolis and LinkedIn are the
most used portals to start your career in Canada. Search for professional
groups on LinkedIn. You can find some interesting groups on Meetup also.
 \n2. Build your Resume/CV \nBuilding a resume and/or curriculum Vitae can
be made easy with simple templates available easily on the Government of C
anada website and Indeed. They can help you create your professional resum
e according to what is commonly used in Canada. It is best to have a maxim
um of 2 pages and make sure it’s not too “crowded” or “wordy.” R
each out to a Human resources personnel within the community to review you
r resume for you – there are many people that genuinely offer their serv
ices. The Government of Canada website also has a section in planning your
career and to learn more about occupations in Canada. \nResume Templates
\nResume Builder \nCareer Planning \n3. Network \nNetworking in Canada is
a casual affair. You can meet up at a nearby Starbucks and make an importa
nt connection. Ideally\, people prefer messages or emails before they meet
someone or agree to talk on a call. Punctuality is important in these sce
narios\, and it is polite to offer to pay during the meetup if it involves
food and beverages. Time is an important commodity and people are careful
who to share their time with. The aim of these meetups is not always to s
eek a job position but can also be used to understand the organization or
the hiring process. Asking for a job\, unless it is being offered to you\,
at a first meeting with a stranger is not considered polite. LinkedIn\, M
eetup.com\, Facebook public events\, local Facebook Indian Community group
s are a great way to network and look for professional connections and new
friends. \n4. Volunteer \nVolunteering your time to the local community i
n Canada is a great way to understand the culture and work ethics in Canad
 a. You can look for Volunteering Opportunity in Indian Community in Vancou
ver or outside the community. It is also a way to meet new people from dif
ferent walks of life and a variety of cultures. Vancouver is a melting pot
for so many immigrants from all over the world – use that to your advan
tage by seeking volunteer events in and around the city. Check out India C
ultural Association (ICA) Of Vancouver if you would like to volunteer for
the community based not for profit organization \n5. Participate & get inv
olved with the community \nFeel free to check out our events section and p
articipate in them. We post events where everyone feels welcome\, attendin
g those events you will feel to have a small piece of the homeland in Vanc
ouver. You can also follow ATI Vancouver on social media (Facebook & Insta
gram) to get yourself updated with the Indian Community Buzz. \n6. Check O
ut Mentorship Programs Available in the Community \nCheck out Mentorship p
rograms available in the community. Some programs such as SettleSmart by E
mpower Community Service Society is focused to empower the community throu
gh connections & guidance. \n\n  \nCredits: Written by Pooja Relekar. Edi
