and sloped path to the entrance of South Creek Trail\, traveling by the R

and then to the paved and flat seawall\, likely using stairs to access th
e last portion of the walk. There is also a concrete culvert at Beaver Lak
e with a ~4cm lip that could potentially be challenging to cross with a wh
eeled mobility device\, but assistance is available if desired. This progr

up our chairs\, and\nwatch the skies for migrating Hawks and other Raptors
. Neill Vanhisberg will be our\nraptor guide\, helping us spot and identif
y Raptors and sharing tips for recognizing\ndifferent species in flight. J
oanna Chin will organize the event and facilitate optional\nnature journal
ing.\n\nEveryone is welcome\, including families\, beginners\, experienced
birders\, and people of\ndifferent backgrounds\, identities\, and abiliti
es.\nWhat to Expect\nThis is a stationary hawk watch\, not a hike. We will
spend most of our time sitting\ntogether and watching the sky. The pace w
ill be relaxed\, and participants are welcome\nto sit\, stand\, move aroun
d\, take breaks\, journal\, chat\, or simply enjoy the view.\n\nRaptor mig
ration can be unpredictable. Sometimes several Birds may pass through in a
\nshort period\, while at other times the skies may be quiet. Neill will h
elp us scan for\nRaptors and share identification and migration tips along
the way.\n\nBring binoculars if you have them. A limited number will be a
vailable to borrow on a\nfirst-come\, first-served basis.\nOptional Nature
Journaling\nNature journaling will be available throughout the hawk watch
as an optional way to\nslow down\, notice and record what is happening ar
ound us. You might sketch a Raptor\nin flight\, record the Birds we see\,
write something you notice or wonder about\, or\nobserve changes in the we
ather and landscape.\n\nPencil crayons will be provided. Feel free to brin
g your own paper\, journal\, pencils\,\npens\, or other supplies you feel
comfortable using. No drawing or journaling experience\nis necessary.\nAcc
essibility & Inclusion\nThis event is designed to provide a relaxed and in
clusive nature experience with\ndifferent ways to participate.\n\nThe hawk
watch location is in an open grassy area with picnic tables scattered arou
nd\nthe perimeter and through the middle. It is approximately 100 metres f
rom the parking\nlot to our sitting location. There is no trail\, and the
grass is somewhat uneven. The\ngrade is approximately 0-5% and no steeper
than a 1:12 slope.\n\nFree parking is available\, with pit toilets next to
the parking lot. Participants are\nwelcome to sit throughout the event\,
change positions\, take breaks\, or leave early as\nneeded.\n\nPlease cont

g on Boundary Bay. We'll walk on the flat gravel dyke which will provide u
s many opportunities for observing birds - songbirds in the brush\, ducks
in the pond\, shorebirds and gulls in the bay\, and if we're lucky\, a rap
tor or two. We'll hope to complete the section between 64th and 72nd stree
ts which is about 4 k\, return. If you would like to avoid the return trip
it might be possible to buddy with another person and park cars at both e
nds. It can be cooler on the dyke and sometimes windy so dress in layers f
or comfort. In the event of substantial rain the walk may be postponed.\n\

urnal neighbours. We’ll learn about adaptations and key features of owls
\, bats and other night loving creatures. As well\, Kay will share how to
identify signs of these nocturnal neighbours\, and see real example speci
mens up close and personal. We’ll also discover how to help keep these
flighted friends happy and healthy\, and maybe we’ll even spot a few of
these creatures showing off their hunting skills! \nRecommended for ages

ld Rivers Day join us for a bird walk to see some of the range of species
that now call BCIT home. We’ll walk along the edges of Guichon Creek and
through the forest to give a chance to hopefully see a variety of birds.\
n\n\nWe’ll start from outside the Rec Centre next to the Creek and walk
along the creek from there. \nWhat to bring \n· A pair of
binoculars makes identifying and enjoying the birds easier. We’ll have
