 er in the largest maritime evacuation in history. In less than nine hours\
 , hundreds of vessels—including Coast Guard cutters\, tugboats\, ferries
 \, passenger vessels\, and privately owned boats—answered an urgent call
  to evacuate people from Manhattan after the terrorist attacks.  \nAlthou
 gh these events unfolded in New York Harbor\, they tell a story that reson
 ates across every American waterway. The courage\, skill\, and selfless se
 rvice demonstrated that day reflect the traditions shared by mariners ever
 ywhere\, including those who have worked and lived on the Great Lakes for

 September 16 at 7 pm \nIn this presentation\, Dr. Christine M. Mayer from 
 the University of Toledo will examine the growing threat of invasive Grass
  Carp in Lake Erie and the collaborative efforts underway to stop their sp
 read. The only invasive carp species currently reproducing in the Great La
 kes\, Grass Carp have the potential to dramatically alter wetlands and aqu
 atic habitats by consuming large amounts of vegetation. Learn how research
 ers are tracking spawning populations in the Maumee\, Sandusky\, and Huron
  Rivers\, developing more effective removal strategies\, and using science
  to protect one of the Great Lakes’ most valuable natural resources. \n 
 \nThis hybrid lecture series is free to attend\, with the option to partic
 ipate in person at the National Museum of the Great Lakes or online via Zo

 e Lake Erie storm\, the fate of the Marquette & Bessemer No. 2 remains one
  of the Great Lakes’ greatest maritime mysteries. Join author and histor
 ian Dr. Thomas Adams as he examines the ship’s final voyage\, the condit
 ions that led to its loss\, the crew who sailed aboard\, and the evidence 
 that may reveal its final resting place beneath the waters of Lake Erie. \
 n \nThis hybrid lecture series is free to attend\, with the option to part
 icipate in person at the National Museum of the Great Lakes or online via
