DESCRIPTION:5th Annual Henry R. Fenbert Challenging History Lecture – H
 ow Beer Might Save Democracy\nSaturday\, September 19\, 2026 – 5:00 PM
 – 8:00 PM\nFREE with required registration\nThe 5th Annual Fenbert Chal
lenging History Lecture welcomes Professor Michael Goldsby for a timely ta
lk titled How Beer Might Save Democracy. \nIn this lecture\, Professor Go
ldsby explores how face-to-face conversations over a shared beverage can h
elp people find common ground and connect with one another in more authent
ic\, focused\, and empathetic ways. He argues that if democracy depends
on people sharing and debating ideas\, then finding common ground with one
another matters. \nSpecial thanks to the Fenbert family for supporting th
 is program. \nAbout Michael Goldsby \n \nMichael Goldsby (he/him) is an a
ssociate professor of philosophy in the School of Politics\, Philosophy\,
and Public Affairs at Washington State University. A beer enthusiast and s
cholar of the philosophy of science\, he earned his PhD from University of
Wisconsin–Madison. Goldsby is also a member of the Columbia FEW Storage
Project\, a collaborative research team developing innovations to support
food\, energy\, and water security in the Columbia River Basin throughout
the 21st century and beyond. \nWSHS Image ID: 2009.0.1843
