DESCRIPTION:The Religion Department of the College of Liberal Studies welc
omes you to the 21st Annual David and Marilyn Knutson Lecture. This year's
lecture will be given by Dr. T. Christopher Hoklotubbe (Bexley Seabury S
eminary). The lecture title is\, “Reading the Bible within the Community
of Creation.” \n\nWhat changes when we read the Bible as part of a larg
er community that includes the earth and our more-than-human kin?\n\nThis
lecture explores what difference an Indigenous perspective that embraces c
reational kinship brings to interpreting Christian Scripture. For example\
, Chris will survey biblical stories and descriptions concerning “the la
nd” and show how ancient Hebrew relationships with and understandings of
land resonate with Indigenous life ways and values.\n\nReading the Bible
alongside of Indigenous stories can illuminate the ancient significance of
these stories for their earliest audiences in ways that modern Western re
adings have often obscured.\n\nThis hybrid event will also be livestreamed
and remains free and open to the entire PLU campus\, community\, and publ
ic.\n\nFor more information\, please contact Dr. Agnes Choi\, Chair of the
  Religion Department (choiaa@plu.edu)
