DESCRIPTION:Run for Awareness. Run for Research. Run for Hope. \nSeptember
is Desmoid Tumor Awareness Month\, and the Desmoid Defenders 5K is an opp
ortunity to bring our community together to support patients and families
affected by desmoid tumors while helping advance critical research. \nJoin
us on September 20\, 2026! Participants can choose between a timed 5K Run
or a 1-Mile Walk/Fun Run\, or if you can’t join us in person\, you can
join from Home! Every registration includes an event participant T-shirt (
must submit entry by 9/6/26.) Virtual at home participants’ event shirts
will be mailed AFTER the in-person event and a shipping charge of $5 will
be added to each registration. \nCheck out the event Store and Grab your
commemorative event Hat in honor of Maeve! \nThis event was inspired by a
remarkable young athlete named Maeve Long! Be a part of her journey! \nWhy
We Run \nAt just 14 years old\, Maeve Long was a healthy\, active teenage
 r who loved soccer\, basketball\, and track. A two-time AAU Junior Olympic
s qualifier\, she was focused on the sports she loved and the future ahead
of her. \nIn November 2025\, Maeve was diagnosed with Desmoid Fibromatosi
s\, an extremely rare and locally aggressive tumor condition that affects
only 5–6 people per million. Her tumor surrounds her carotid artery and
impacts her vision due to its location near her optic nerve. \nSince her d
iagnosis\, Maeve has undergone chemotherapy\, frequent testing\, and ongoi
ng treatment\, all while maintaining the courage\, determination\, and pos
itive attitude that have inspired everyone around her. \nMaeve’s journey
is the reason this event was created. \nHer story reminds us of the chall
enges faced by patients and families living with rare diseases\, but it al
so highlights the power of community\, support\, and hope. \nAbout Desmoid
Tumors \nDesmoid tumors are rare\, invasive tumors that do not spread to
distant parts of the body but can cause significant damage by growing into
  surrounding tissues\, muscles\, nerves\, blood vessels\, and organs. \nBe
cause desmoid tumors are so rare\, research funding and awareness are esse
ntial. Continued research helps improve treatment options\, advance medica
l understanding\, and move closer to finding more effective therapies for
patients living with this disease. \nOur Mission \nThe Desmoid Defenders 5
K was created to: \nRaise awareness of desmoid tumors and their impact on
patients and families.\nSupport ongoing research efforts aimed at improvin
g treatment and outcomes.\nBring our community together in support of thos
e facing this rare disease.\nHonor the strength and resilience of patients
  like Maeve.\nWhether you run\, walk\, donate\, volunteer\, or cheer from
the sidelines\, you are helping make a difference. \nTogether\, we can rai
se awareness\, support research\, and provide hope for those affected by d
esmoid tumors. \nJoin us this September and become a Desmoid Defender! Hel
p us make our first event a success in raising awareness and reaching 200+
participants with a goal of raising over $10\,000 for the Desmoid Tumor R
esearch Foundation! \nBe sure to follow and engage with the Desmoid Tumor
Research Foundation on Facebook (Facebook.com/desmoid)\, Instagram (@dtrfo
 undation)\, Twitter (@DTRFoundation) and LinkedIn (linkedin.com/company/de
smoid-tumor research-foundation-dtrf-/)\nThank you for helping to raise #D

DESCRIPTION:In 1876\, Archer Alexander (1806-1880) became America’s embo
diment of the word Emancipation. On the only memorial ever erected by the
formerly enslaved to President Abraham Lincoln in Washington\, D.C. he sti
ll rises on the Emancipation Memorial. Though born in Virginia\, he would
become the last fugitive slave captured in Missouri\, a border state under
Martial Law during the Civil War. In 1863\, he had overheard the area’s
Confederate’s planning an attack on a nearby railroad bridge near the U
nion’s Fort Peruque\; and risked his life to report it. He saved hundred
s of lives\, supplies\, the payroll and a vital link for the Union Army by
so doing. Then he would lead sixteen men on a run for freedom at Howell
’s Ferry on the Underground Railroad. He was granted freedom for his ser
vices to the military on September 24\, 1863\, and is the third great- gra
ndfather of Muhammad Ali. Yet\, he is buried in an unmarked grave in St. L
ouis.\nJoin us as we commemorate his day of Freedom\, on the third Sunday
in September\, September 20\, 2026\, at 1:00 pm at the St. Peter’s Unite
d Church of Christ Cemetery at 2101 Lucas and Hunt Drive for the annual Me

heart of St. Louis celebrates its 150th year in 2026\, you’re invited to
take an interactive tour through some of Forest Park’s most familiar an
d beloved features\, as well as get treated to hidden histories and fascin
ating trivia…all from the comfort of your seat at the Kirkwood Public Li
brary! Your guide: “Forest Park: St. Louis’s Gathering Place Since 187
6\,” the new\, lushly illustrated book by Doyle and Collins. We’ll hav
e a carnival-style spinny wheel and you\, the audience\, will use it to di
rect our talk. Come hear about the animals who arrived before the Zoo\, th
e generations of folks who've slept in tent cities in the park\, the count
ry's first hot-air balloon race\, and more.  \n\n\n\nThe park has been bo
th a mirror for St. Louis and its people. It showed us examples of all the
trials and triumphs we experienced in our everyday lives\, from racial st
rife and economic freefall to population abandonment and urban decline. It
’s also been a window\, giving us glimpses of what else lay beyond our o
wn experiences and broadening our lives\, from bringing the world’s wond
ers here for a spectacular exposition to providing a home for the playgrou
nd movement\, accessible arts\, and a free place to breathe and just be. O
f particular interest to Kirkwood fans will be the pivotal role played by
Hiram W. Leffingwell in the park's conception and creation. \n\n\n\nPlease
bring your favorite Forest Park memories and your burning questions\; we'
ll do our best to answer them! Books will be available for purchase and pe
rsonalized signing by the authors. (Cash/check/credit/debit/Venmo accepted

DESCRIPTION:Flame and Shadow: The Passion and Pain of Sara Teasdale is a n
ew chamber opera by composer Nika Leoni and librettist Kathryn Hedgpeth\,
based on the life of the renowned early 20th-century American poet and the
first female Pulitzer Prize winner. The production brings together the ha
untingly beautiful poetry and turbulent life of Sara Teasdale\, illuminati
ng a powerful-yet-overlooked voice from St. Louis’s cultural history. Th
rough an innovative blend of dual timelines\, multimedia projection\, and
poetic storytelling\, this work reimagines opera as an immersive journey c
onnecting past and present. This production\, which is a working preview o

DESCRIPTION:‘The Last Show on Earth’ is a multi-media vignette-style p
lay that explores the absurdity and quiet beauty of contemporary life in a
n increasingly mediated world. Inspired by the films of Roy Andersson\, th
e play unfolds as a series of loosely connected scenes that share a common
creative theme rather than a single linear plot. Together\, these moments
form an emotional arc that moves from the everyday toward the existential
. Audience engagement is central to the project. The show frequently break
s the “fourth wall\,” blurring the line between performer and spectato
r and implicating the audience in the themes being examined. ‘The Last S
how on Earth’ is written by Joe Taylor and directed by Lucy Cashion.
