 unterpublic 2026: Coyote Time\, join artist Tony Cokes and Counterpublic c
 urator Stefanie Hessler for a conversation at Antioch Baptist Church as pa
 rt of a walking tour of The Ville neighborhood. The talk and tour will tra
 ce the full arc of Cokes’s project\, which includes a video on CAM’s f
 acade for Street Views\, a video installed in the church\, and billboards 
 bridging these two sites. Counterpublic staff and artists will also take v
 isitors to other Counterpublic 2026 artists work in the neighborhood. Comf
 ortable shoes and weather appropriate clothing is recommended. The tour ro
 ute requires navigating uneven and unreliable city sidewalks. Please note 
 that this event takes place in The Ville and coincides with the Northside

 n\nAbout the artist \nTony Cokes (b. 1956\, Richmond\, VA) lives and works
  in Providence\, Rhode Island\, where he serves as Professor in the Depart
 ment of Modern Culture and Media at Brown University. Cokes was awarded a 
 MacArthur Foundation Fellowship in 2024 and the Rome Prize in 2022–23. A
  solo presentation of his work\, Texts\, Tracks\, Talks (1992-2026)\, will
  open at The Institute of Contemporary Art at Virginia Commonwealth Univer
 sity\, on September 18\, 2026. Other recent solo exhibitions include Kunst
 museum Liechtenstein\, Vaduz (2025–26)\; Batalha Centro de Cinema\, Port
 o (2024–25)\; Dia Bridgehampton\, The Dan Flavin Art Institute\, Bridgeh

 ity.\n\n  \n\nAbout the Artists \nVaughn Terrell Davis Jr. (b. 1995\, St.
  Louis\, MO) has exhibited work at Romer Young Gallery\, San Francisco\; N
 azarian / Curcio\, Los Angeles\; Dimensions Variable\, Miami\; The Luminar
 y\, St. Louis\; and Tripoli Gallery\, Wainscott\, NY\, among others. In 20
 23\, Davis created a torn flag sculpture to be hoisted outdoors at Laumeie
 r Sculpture Park in Sappington\, MO\, in tandem with his solo exhibition i
 n the museum’s gallery. Davis is an exhibiting artist for Counterpublic 
 2026: Coyote Time\, and holds a BFA in Sculpture from Webster University i
 n St. Louis.  \nLauren dela Roche (b. 1983\, Santa Rosa\, CA) is the reci
 pient of several grants and residencies\, including a 2024 Joan Mitchell C
 enter residency in New Orleans. Dela Roche is represented by Eric Fireston
 e Gallery in New York. Her work is found in the collections of the Minneap
 olis Institute of Art\, the North Dakota Museum of Art\, and the Hessel Mu
 seum of Art at Bard College\, among others. She has resided in the Midwest
  since young adulthood and currently lives and works near St. Louis.  \nV
 incent Stemmler’s (b. 1989\, St. Louis\, MO) most recent solo exhibition
 \, Doom Scroll\, was presented by the Kranzberg Arts Foundation\, St. Loui
 s in 2023. That same year\, he was featured in Counterpublic\, St. Louis
 ’s citywide public art triennial. Stemmler holds a BFA from the School o
 f the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from Southern Illinois Universit
 y Edwardsville\, with a record of exhibitions spanning local\, national\, 
 and international venues. \nAbout the Jurors \nWorking with photography\, 
 sculpture\, and site-specific installations\, Leslie Hewitt addresses flui
 d notions of time. Oscillating between the illusionary potential of photog
 raphy and the physical weight of sculpture\, her compositions  suggest th
 e porosity between intimate and sociopolitical lives. A selection of recen
 t and forthcoming exhibitions include the Museum of Modern Art in New York
 \; the Studio Museum in Harlem\; Artists Space in New York\; Project Row H
 ouses in Houston\; and LA > < ART in Los Angeles. Hewitt has held residenc
 ies at the Studio Museum in Harlem\, the Museum of Fine Arts\, Houston\, t
 he Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University and the Am
 erican Academy in Berlin\, Germany amongst others. In 2012\, CAM presented
  a solo exhibition of her work\, Sudden Glare of the Sun. \nMargot Norton 
 is Chief Curator at the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMP
 FA)\, where she leads the curatorial team and oversees the exhibition prog
 ram. At BAMPFA she curated and co-curated MATRIX 283/ Gabriel Chaile (2023
 )\; MATRIX 286/Amol K. Patil (through April 2025)\; To Exalt the Ephemeral
 : The (Im)permanent Collection (through July 2025)\; and the BAMPFA presen
 tation of Making Their Mark: Works from the Shah Garg Collection (through 
 April 2025). She regularly contributes to exhibition catalogues and public
 ations and is also co-founder and current editorial council member of Muse
 ums Moving Forward\, an independent\, limited-life organization devoted to
  envisioning and creating a more just museum sector by 2030. She holds an 
 MA in Curatorial Studies from Columbia University\, New York.  \nPavel Py
 ś is the Curator of Visual Arts and Collections Strategy at the Walker Ar
 t Center. At the Walker\, he has curated solo exhibitions by Daniel Buren\
 , Paul Chan\, Pan Daijing\, Michaela Eichwald\, Christine Sun Kim\, Caroly
 n Lazard\, Ralph Lemon & Kevin Beasley\, Sarah Michelson\, and Elizabeth P
 rice\, as well as the group exhibition The Body Electric (2019). In 2018\,
  he was awarded an Andy Warhol Foundation Curatorial Fellowship which aide
 d research towards Multiple Realities: Experimental Art from the Eastern B
 loc\, 1960s-80s\, presented at the Walker\, Phoenix Art Museum and Vancouv
 er Art Gallery. Pyś is closely involved in leading the strategic vision\,
  development\, and long-range planning of the Walker’s collection. In 20
 25\, he was awarded a Center for Curatorial Leadership Fellowship. Pyś re
 ceived an MFA in Curating from Goldsmiths College in 2010 and an MSc in Cu
 lture & Society from the London School of Economics in 2009.
