DESCRIPTION:Bicycle Illinois is excited to introduce the Route 66 Ride\, a
  new week-long cycling tour traveling from the St. Louis area to Chicagola
 nd along the legendary Old Route 66. This tour is still in development\, a
 nd registration is not yet open\, but riders are encouraged to stay tuned 
 for updates as plans continue to progress. \nExperience the Mother Road on
  two wheels as you pedal through historic Route 66 towns\, open farmland\,
  and classic roadside Americana. Vintage gas stations\, diners\, museums\,
  and glowing neon signs evoke the nostalgia of America’s golden age of t
 ravel. With gentle terrain and lightly traveled roads\, this route offers 
 a relaxed yet rewarding cycling adventure filled with history\, local hosp
 itality\, and timeless charm. This fully supported\, all-hotel tour is a p
 erfect way to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Route 66 and America’s 
 250th birthday. \nThe cycling route will follow original alignments of Rou
 te 66 whenever safe and enjoyable\, with detours around high-traffic areas
  such as I-55 and Memorial Parkway in Springfield. Bicycle Illinois is wor
 king with local Route 66 organizations to identify historic and quirky att
 ractions along the way\, many of which will serve as ride stops. \nThe tou
 r is tentatively scheduled for September 19–27\, 2026\, and will include
  optional transportation days\, six or seven riding days\, and a layover d
 ay in Springfield to explore Abraham Lincoln historic sites. Total mileage
  is approximately 350 miles\, averaging about 60 miles per day\, with all 
 details subject to change. \nRegistration will include hotel lodging\, SAG
  support\, baggage transport\, Ride with GPS navigation\, access to mechan
 ical support\, and a complimentary pair of Bicycle Illinois cycling socks.
  Optional transportation\, long-term parking\, and merchandise will be ava
 ilable. Riders are responsible for lunches and dinners. Future tours may i
 nclude a Chicago extension or camping options.

DESCRIPTION:Woodlawn Farms showcases the homestead of Jacksonville’s ext
 ensive Underground Railroad network. Former enslaved people were ushered t
 hrough this home on their way to freedom. This Farm\, five miles east of J
 acksonville\, was established in 1824 by Michael Huffaker. Michael and his
  wife\, Jane\, rode by horseback from Kentucky\, bought land east of Jacks
 onville\, and built a cabin for their growing family as well as four cabin
 s for free Black families who helped Michael raise cattle\, horses and cro
 ps. In 1840\, he built the two-story brick home which stands on this prope
 rty to this day. Michael and his family were members of the Antioch Christ
 ian Church founded by Barton Stone. \n  \nWalk this historical farm on Sa
 turdays & Sundays from 1:00 – 4:00 PM\, May 1st through September 30th.
