DESCRIPTION:Central Illinois Walking and Hiking Meetup\n**For this event\,
we will be walking the Sodalis Nature Preserve\, located about 90 minutes
west of Springfield in Hannibal\, Missouri. We will be walking on a mix o
f paved and unpaved trails through this city preserve. We plan to walk abo
ut 5 miles in about 2 hours.**\n\n**Being close to the Mississippi River\,
there is some elevation changes in this preserve. The higher portions are
about 300 feet above the lower part of the trails. The paved trails are d
efinitely easy in difficulty\, but the unpaved portions I would put square
ly in the moderate difficulty category. If you ever wanted to walk a trail
where trekking poles would be useful\, this would be the one. Overall\, i
t's not a difficult trail\, but there are spots where the incline/decline
might cause us to breathe a little harder than usual. We can attest that t
his area is quite beautiful\, and we believe worth the visit.**\n\n**The A
près will be listed as a separate event.**\n\n**From their website:**\n**
Sodalis Nature Preserve is a 200-acre park property that was given to the
city to preserve endangered bats. It is now Hannibal’s second-largest pa
rk.**\n\n**More than 211\,000 federally endangered Indiana bats hibernate
in a former limestone mine that closed a half-century ago and in the cave
network nearby. The bats that hibernate in Hannibal make up about one-thir
d of all known Indiana bats (their scientific name is Myotis sodalis\, hen
 ce the preserve name.)**

DESCRIPTION:Springfield Bible Study\nTo understand Jesus\, we must read th
e Bible. Jesus' earthly birth begins in the gospel accounts in the New Tes
tament of the Bible. But if we truly want to know Jesus\, the Christ\, we
must go back to the very beginning. Jesus is written on every page\, but w
e have to be willing to look throughout the Bible and see what God's inspi
red word wants us to know about His Son\, our Savior.\n\n"A shadow is 'a d
ark area or shape produced by a body coming between rays of light and a su
rface.' The shadow assumes the shape of the object blocking the light. It
 resembles the object but isn't the object.\n\nIn Biblical literature\, a s
hadow is a prefiguring of something in the future. One thing in the Old Te
stament resembles in some way a thing in the New Testament."\n\nWhat we'll
see are things and people throughout the Old Testament that point to and
resemble Jesus who we find in the New Testament.\n\nJoin us as we study th
rough a workbook on Seeing Jesus in the Old Testament.

wist is all about community participation. Held the second weekend in Octo
ber\, Carve for the Carillon invites everyone to roll up their sleeves and
create their own glowing masterpiece. \nThe following weekend\, more than
2\,000 illuminated jack-o-lanterns light up the Carillon and Washington P
ark Botanical Garden. \nWhat Makes This Event Unique? \n\nLive Carillon mu
 sic\, special lighting\, and spooky sound effects\nThe one-of-a-kind Tree
of Lights\nFood vendors and festive fall fun for all ages\nA truly partici
 patory and family-focused experience\n\n🤝 Sponsorship & Support\nThe Ja
ck-O-Lantern Spectacular is made possible by the generous support of corpo
rate sponsors\, admissions\, and volunteers. Attendance ranges from 5\,000
to 8\,000 people each year\, making it a fantastic opportunity to showcas

DESCRIPTION:Central Illinois Walking and Hiking Meetup\nPere Marquette Sta
 te Park is an 8050 acre nature-lover's paradise\, encompassing forests\, w
ooded ravines\, bluffs\, and scenic trails alongside the Illinois River. I
have a nice hike mapped out using several intersecting trails\, total dis
tance around 5.2 miles. The trail is primarily a woodland path\, shaded fo
r most of its length. There are numerous hills and ravines\, with occasion
al rocky outcrops and ridges. It will take about 2.5 hours to cover 5 mile
s as we'll take a few short breaks after some of the uphill stretches. I'd
recommend trekking poles if you use them. For most of our regular hikers
I would rate this hike as Moderate.\nWe'll meet in the parking lot in fron
t of the Visitors Center\, (nice bathrooms there).\nAnother option is to s
tay in the Pere Marquette area overnight on Friday and avoid the early mor
ning drive on Saturday. The Lodge at Pere Marquette has a variety of rooms
and cabins\, located just one minute from the trailhead. Nearby Grafton h
as several lodging options as well.\n\nApres Hike: Grafton Oyster Bar (don
't worry\, they have a regular menu...and amazing food!)- There will be a
separate Meetup Event signup for the Apres.

DESCRIPTION:Central Illinois Walking and Hiking Meetup\nGrafton Oyster Bar
  features award-winning dishes\, service\, music\, and atmosphere\, right
on the river in Grafton\, Illinois.\nThe Oyster Bar is VERY popular\, and
like most restaurants in Grafton\, they don't technically "take reservatio
ns" especially on a Saturday. But they do "hold" tables for a group if we
work with them and communicate an accurate headcount to them....which we d
 o. So we should be fine for having an area for our group to eat lunch.\nPL
EASE don't pull a "No Show" on this event...adjust your RSVP at least the
 day before.

DESCRIPTION:Central Illinois Walking and Hiking Meetup\nThe massive ground
s of the Illinois State Fair are open all year and are (somewhat) well-lit
for an after-dark hike. But like all closed amusement parks...the absence
of people\, and at night\, make it a somewhat creepy location...all the m
ore fun for a walk the night before Halloween!\nCostumes\, masks\, even ju
st a silly hat are encouraged but not required on this hike\, and the qual
ity will not be judged...much.\nWe'll meet at 5:30 at Happy Hollow\, (plen
ty of parking) which is just inside the main gate on your left at the bott
om of the hill. We'll have a 30 minute Happy Hour tailgate party to start
the evening. I'll have some libations available\, feel free to bring a bev
erage. We'll start walking at 6:00\, meandering down deserted streets\, tr
ekking through the shadowy barns\, past abandoned displays\, and around th
e various historical buildings of the fair. Spooks and the ghosts of all o
f the fair animals that have met their maker during the fair may be haunti
ng our path. I've laid out a 3 mile route\, which should be about right fo
r an evening walk. Be sure to bring a small flashlight\, as some parts of
the hike are not well lit. Your cellphone light will probably be sufficien
 t. Be warned....There are no open restrooms at the fairgrounds.\n\nApres'
 hike location: To Be Announced
