The goal of thi s program is to support artists in the creation of new work. Artists are e ncouraged to collaborate with others and step outside the boundaries of a single genre or discipline\, or outside the artist’s comfort zone. \nMar issa Rae Niederhauser (she/her) has been practicing dance for 42 years & m aking dances & body based work in film\, performance art\, photo\, noise & installation for 21 of those years. \nShe received her BFA in Dance at Co rnish College of the Arts in Seattle\, WA and after 14 years dancing in Se attle in the early 2000s she explored the broader world of dance while liv ing in NYC\, Melbourne\, Berlin and PDX and is now excited to have returne d “home” to Seattle. Her live works have been presented at On the Boar ds\, The Henry Art Gallery\, Project Space Available at Studio Current\, O pen Flight\, & The Hedreen Gallery in Seattle\, Performance Works Northwes t in Portland\, Ada Studios in Berlin\, Lucy Guerrin Inc in Melbourne\, AU \, and at Movement Research- Judson Church\, Triskelion Arts & the New Mus eum: Ideas City Festival in NYC. Her films have screened internationally w inning prizes at Choreographic Captures- Munich\, DE\, SIFF\, 60 Sec Dance Films and having a solo exhibition of 16 original films at Projektraum LS 43 Berlin & a retrospective screening of 7 of her films at The Director’ s Lounge in Berlin.\nShe enjoys sharing the deep work of the body not only as an artist but also as an instructor of dance\, Gyrotonic®️exercise & Pilates. She navigates life through the lens of intersectional feminism. She lives with a semi-rehabilitated feral cat\, Riot Girl Wrangell Rae. \ nAbout the Project\n“I came into this incubator residency with the idea to combine dance and shadow puppetry to explore themes of vilification\, i n particular exploring feminine monsters: Medusa\, Baba Yaga\, Jorōgumo\, etc. The abundance of resources provided by Cornish College of the Arts a t Seattle University and the generosity of the crew of Cornish Playhouse f acilitated an expansion of this vision. Within a day it was clear we’d h it on some magic and that I had a much larger story to tell. This showing will explore themes of time and mortality. In addition to the above mentio ned monsters\, Chronos and The Fates are present in this work.
