DESCRIPTION:Wanted: A Loving Home for a Loving Cat Who has Waited Too Long
!\nAce has never given up—not for one moment\, even as he’s spent more
than two years waiting for his special someone to come find him. Could th
at be you?\nThis nine-year-old is practically a miniature panther\, all da
rk fur and bright eyes. Ace won’t let himself be lost in the shadows\, t
hough. When people come visit\, he follows them around\, flopping at their
feet so that he can’t be ignored! He’s not just doing it for the trea
 ts\, either… (though he wouldn’t mind a few\, if you could please)...
he adores people and wants to be a close companion\, whatever it takes!\nA
n older cat with arthritis\, Ace has aches and pains that mean he needs a
home with gentle handling. His monthly arthritis injections and daily pill
s have helped tremendously\, but he has some spots that hurt to touch. Tha
t won’t stop him from wanting to be your loving shadow\, though! He just
needs a home with a cat-savvy family\, where he can trust your calm\, kin
d touches.\nAre you the one that Ace has been waiting so long for? Come me
 et him and find out!

On Saturday\, September 19th\, 2026 the Seaside Public Library will welcom
e back R.J. Marx\, who will be giving the final in a series of presentatio
 ns titled\, “Seaside’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Riots – 1964: Operation Sea
side.” This event will take place at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Room. Th
is event is made possible by the generous support of the Seaside Library F
riends & Foundation. \nMilitary on the streets and on rooftops. Young peop
le swarming into Seaside. A national crisis brewing as cities everywhere f
elt the pressures of Civil Rights unrest and the Vietnam War. By 1964\, Se
aside was reeling from two years of Labor Day violence that Mayor Maurice
Pysher characterized as a “Holy War” against “lawless\, godless” y
outh. Authorities coordinated ”Operation Seaside\,” a massive security
plan involving 100 National Guardsmen and 44 state troopers\, while movin
g the popular Pypo Club to a new location to isolate teenagers from the be
 ach. \nIn “Seaside’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Riots 1962-1964\, How a Coastal
City’s Labor Day Riots Heralded a Decade of Unrest\,” author R.J. Mar
x chronicles how the weekend’s events pitted over 1\,000 youngsters agai
nst well-drilled forces utilizing modern tactics like undercover walkie-ta
lkie surveillance and Polaroid cameras for booking arrests. \nThe riots ga
ined national infamy when Seaside was featured in Barry Goldwater’s camp
aign film “Choice” to portray an American “mobocracy\,” and was of
ficially listed in an FBI report as one of nine major national riot locati
ons that year. While the overwhelming force effectively broke the annual r
iot cycle\, it eventually led to the replacement of the city’s “wretch
ed” detention facilities. \nR.J. Marx is an author\, editor and journali
st specializing in culture\, music and local history. He served as editor
of the award-winning weekly The Record-Review\, covering the politics and
personalities of the Westchester County\, New York communities. In 2015\,
he relocated to the Oregon Coast\, as the editor of the Seaside Signal and
the South County reporter for The Astorian. He retired in 2023. When he
’s not writing\, Marx is a gigging saxophonist.

DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, September 19th 2026\nPigs on the Wing: Beyond Pompe
 ii\nLiberty Theatre - Astoria\, OR\n7:00 pm doors / 8:00 pm show\n$43 adv
 / $48 dos / general admission / two sets\nPigs on the Wing turns 20 this y
ear and continues the celebration with a very special live performance ins
pired by Pink Floyd’s iconic 1972 concert film\, ‘Live at Pompeii’\,
plus a full second set of classic hits and fan favorites.\nIn true-to-for
m style\, Pigs on the Wing approaches the music of ‘Live at Pompeii’ b
y leaning into the band’s strengths and influences as musicians\, rather
than sticking to a strictly note-for-note tribute band approach. The resu
lt\, the band members feel\, captures the sonic intensity of the original
recording in a way that is precise when needed\, yet free to explore the m
usical space and push the envelope in the same way Pink Floyd would have.\
nAdditionally\, fans can expect a carefully curated second set containing
hits and fan favorites from The Dark Side of the Moon\, Wish You Were Here
\, Animals\, The Wall and more. This is a don’t-miss concert experience
for any classic rock aficionado.\nDoors open at 7:00pm. Arrive early and g
rab beer\, wine and other concessions from our Lower Lobby Bar.
