DESCRIPTION:Using the language of cartoons in three dimensional form\, stu
dents would learn to express and convey complicated and often hard to acce
ss concepts through the figure. This would be an all levels course intende
d for anyone interested in making loud and fun figures.\nCeramicist Brian
McNamara uses character-driven narratives to tap into the emotions of a co
mmunal past.  His intentionally cartoonish style\, which draws on the aes
thetics of the animated TV series he remembers from his childhood in the 1
990s\, enables him to talk about serious subjects with nostalgia and humor
.  McNamara received his MFA from the Tyler School of Art and Architectur
e\, PA\, and completed a residency at the Taos Ceramics Center in Taos\, N
 M.  He is based in Chico\, CA\, where he is a Lecturer in Ceramics\, Foun
dations\, and Digital Media at Chico State University.  His work has appe
ared at the American Museum of Ceramic Art (Pomona\, CA)\, LH Horton Jr. G
allery at San Joaquin Delta College (Stockton\, CA)\, and the California C
onference for the Advancement of Ceramic Art (Davis\, CA).
