DESCRIPTION:If you were invited to sit at a table with someone you’ve ne
ver met before and answer handwritten questions from a wooden box about t
he state of America\, would you run the other way? The Work in Prog
ress invites strangers from across generations and geographies to engage
in candid discussions about America’s ever-evolving democracy\, ident
ity\, and definitions of community — and where the heck we go from her
 e. Guided by questions posed by Executive Producer Robert Reich\, particip
ants sit down in a series of conversations with one another to explore
the country they’re living in now and the one they still believe is
possible. \nThese encounters are intercut with portraits of Americans at
  work — in woodshops\, laboratories\, fields\, board rooms\, recordi
ng studios\, theaters\, and beyond. The message is simple but profound:
America can work because\, in many ways\, it’s already working. And
a central part of the work ahead is to reclaim the practices of dialo
 gue\, debate\, compromise\, and perhaps most importantly\, listening\, so
that we might find our footing again. \nWhat emerges in The Work in P
rogress is an unusual and provocative glimpse of America in its 250th y
ear\, and an invitation to all Americans to pull up a chair\, invite a str
anger\, and lend an ear. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCenter for Contempora

DESCRIPTION:Will Poulter and Noah Centineo deliver pitch-perfect performan
ces as brothers Cody and Jack Parsons\, each navigating a court-mandated d
rug rehabilitation program in a pocket of rural Ohio hit hard by the opioi
d epidemic. Provided with hope for the first time since their struggles be
gan and with the support of a tireless counselor (Annette Deao)\, the brot
hers work toward a brighter\, sober future. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPoulter and Cent
ineo blend seamlessly with a supporting cast composed predominantly of non
-professional actors as they share their actual experiences\, pain\, and o
ptimism as they\, themselves\, navigate the program. Ohio-born filmmaker A
dam Meeks creates a film imbued with realism for an honest\, compassionate
portrait of a battle being fought across America and the solidarity that
flowers on its front lines. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The opioid epidemic has been
ravaging the United States for decades\, and while much attention has been
paid to Big Pharma and the root causes and effects of the epidemic\, topi
cs of addiction treatment and access to recovery communities are still und
er-recognized. Although many recovery programs across the country are inef
fective or problematic\, the drug courts I’ve observed in Ohio are profo
und in their values\, their success rates\, and in their underlying sense
of hope and connection. With Union County I’ve intended to look directly
at that notion of connection\, to celebrate the drug court and its partic
ipants\, and to explore a complex but hopeful counter-narrative to the opi
oid epidemic that needs to be seen — a young man getting back on his fee
 t. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhile the film employs a fictional dramatic narrative bui
lt around Will Poulter and Noah Centineo’s central performances\, many o
f the court interactions emerge through a documentary process in the real
space\, with the real people. Additionally\, many of the supporting charac
ters are portrayed by non-professional actors from the Ohio recovery commu
nity playing versions of themselves\; this includes Annette Deao\, Judge B
raig\, and the majority of the recovery community surrounding our lead act
ors. The convergence of professional and non-professional actors is intend
ed to ground the story in authenticity and to invite collaboration from th
e community and the real-life characters themselves. ” -Director’s St

DESCRIPTION:Amid stifling heat and pervasive drought\, Isabel (Jorrybell A
goto)\, a 17-year-old Ilokana from the rural north\, works at a posh count
ry club outside Manila\, lining up golf balls for powerful men to drive in
to the verdant horizon. New to the job\, she wanders the immaculate ground
s sampling its luxuries as members\, including an industrialist and his ex
patriate niece\, the club president and his pampered wife\, and a slew of
Chinese tourists\, engage in a complex dance with the club’s doting and
subservient staff. But something is rotting beneath the pristine fairways
of the elite resort\, as Isabel discovers when she tries to return a misla

DESCRIPTION:Two men walk into the night. They commit a crime in a petrol s
tation. One of them is killed. The other\, Samba\, gets away with a small
suitcase full of banknotes. Samba returns home and tries to forget… He m
eets Saratou\, and finally\, the nightmares that have haunted him since th
e night of the crime are fading. Saratou\, too\, has lived in the city and
her ten-year-old son\, Ali\, belongs to this chapter of her past. She is
burdened with the memory of a man still waiting for her. Saratou and Samba
fall in love under the gaze of Salif\, Samba’s childhood friend\, and B
inta\, his wife. Both on their own\, then together\, they try to forget th
e city and the past. But can we ever shake off the nightmares that haunt u
s? Can we really escape our destiny? The past resurfaces for the first tim
e when Ismaël\, the man Saratou left\, comes back to look for her. But Sa
mba’s threats eventually make him resign and leave. Life goes on. \n\n\n
\n\n\n\nThe slow\, monotonous rhythm of the village is disrupted by the ch
anges brought about by Samba: a herd of cattle that he offers as a gift to
the whole village\; a bar that he opens with his friend Salif\, his marri
age to Saratou\, the house that he has built for them on the edge of the v
illage. Time passes. Saratou becomes pregnant. When she has to go to the c
ity to give birth\, the past resurfaces a second time: Samba refuses to go
with her. He admits that he cannot set foot in the town. Seydou\, his fat
her\, worried since his son’s return by his strange attitude\, discovers
the money and the weapon that Samba was hiding at home. He disowns him. \
n\n\n\n\n\n\nSamba must pay dearly for his mistake: the house he built wit
h the stolen money is burnt down by his father. Saratou\, who no longer wa
nts to see him\, leaves with their son. Samba takes refuge by the river wh
ere he suffers the loneliness of an outcast. It is only thanks to the unde
rstanding of Ali\, his adopted son\, that he finds the strength to return
to his wife with the promise to start again fromscratch\, without money\,
without a home\, forgetting the past. But as they return to Saratou and he
 r new-born child\, Samba\, having atoned for his crimes\, his past catches
up with him one last time like a bolt from the blue to destroy the happin
ess he was finally hoping for. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nC

DESCRIPTION:Online Open House on I-40 Road and Art Panel Improvements in
Gallup\nProject OverviewThe New Mexico Department of Transportation\, in
partnership with the Federal Highway Administration\, is planning improvem
 ents to I-40 within a four-mile stretch between mileposts 17.92 and 22.12
\, within the urban area of Gallup\, New Mexico. The goal is to enhance sa
fety and operations and bring the corridor up to current design standards.
   \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
 				\n \n \n \n \n Project AreaThe project area extends alo
ng Interstate 40 through Gallup from just east of the Puerco River near th
e Miyamura Interchange. This section of I-40 serves as a critical transpor
tation route for residents\, businesses\, visitors\, and freight movement
through western New Mexico. Several restaurants\, hotels\, retail business
es\, and transportation facilities are located within and near the projec
t corridor\, including a nearby BNSF Railway yard near the US 491 intercha
nge.   \nExisting Conditions  I-40 currently has two travel lanes in e
ach direction. Each travel lane is 12 feet wide.  Additionally\, the ins
ide shoulders are about 4 feet wide and outside shoulders are about 10 f
eet wide. Between the directions of travel there’s an earthen median t
hat varies from 28 to 52 feet wide.  \nPavement in this area is deteriora
ting with visible cracking and rutting. The existing narrow shoulders a
nd deteriorating art panels within the slope paving have sustained damage
over time\, and roadside safety features no longer meet current standa
rds. Together\, these conditions create operational and safety concerns an
d highlight the need for improvements along this section of I-40.  \n  \
 n  \n \n \n \n \n \n Potential Traffic Impacts During
Construction  \nWhen construction begins\, work crews may need to requir
e temporary traffic control measures to safely accommodate construction ac
tivities while maintaining mobility through the corridor.   \nMotorist
s should expect minor delays as work progresses from west to east along th
e project limits.   \nPeriodic lane restrictions will be necessary\, a
nd nighttime paving operations will require reducing I-40 to a single lane
in certain areas.   \nMaloney Avenue will be reduced to one lane during
artwork rehabilitation activities.   \nSafety remains the highest pri
ority throughout construction\, and drivers are encouraged to remain alert
\, follow posted traffic control devices\, reduce speeds in work zones an
d use caution when traveling through active construction areas to protect
both workers and fellow motorists.  \nNext Steps  \nThe project is curre
ntly in final design\, with plans to start accepting bids from contractor
s in mid-2027. Construction is expected to begin in late 2027.  \n
 \n \n \n \n \n \n How to Participate\nNMDOT is holding an
Online Open House from September 17th to October 18th\, 2026. We invite y
ou to review the Project Presentation and share your questions and feedbac
k via the comment form below. \nOnline Presentation Available HERE  \nIf
you have concerns or questions\, share them with our team by October 18th

Waxman Gallery at the Center for Contemporary Arts - 1050 Old Pecos Trail\
, Santa Fe\, NM 87505  This event will also be streamed on YouTube Live
  - no registration required. \n\n\nWhat happens when someone who holds a
lifetime of cultural and spiritual knowledge chooses to share parts of tha
t wisdom so it can live beyond him?  \nBeginning in the late 1970s\, anth
ropologist William Hanks spent years working in Oxkutzcab\, Yucatán\, whe
re a chance conversation with Maya ritual expert and healer Sebastián Cas
tillo Mo (known as Don Chabo) grew into an extraordinary relationship. See
ing that his knowledge needed to live beyond his own lifetime\, Don Chabo
took Hanks on as an apprentice\, intentionally teaching him the parts of h
is practice that could be passed on.  \nIn a deeply personal lecture\, Ha
nks takes us inside that apprenticeship and the world Don Chabo shared wit
h him: a world inhabited by humans\, spirits\, and other beings\, in which
words\, gestures\, places\, and ritual actions carried profound power. Ha
nks will reflect on how Don Chabo taught\, what he believed could and coul
d not be transmitted\, and what it means to carry another person's knowled
ge after they are gone.  \nPart remembrance\, part exploration of Maya sp
iritual practice\, the evening offers a rare window into a relationship th
at changed both teacher and student.  \nFrom Dr. Hanks:   In the course
of ethnographic fieldwork in the municipio of Oxkutzcab\, Yucatan\, betwe
en 1977 and 1996\, I came to work very closely with a Maya hmèen ritual e
xpert\, shaman (lit. 'do-er')\, named Sebastian Castillo Mo\, known locall
y as Don Chabo (deceased 1996). What started as a fortuitous conversation
developed into an apprenticeship in which Don Chabo explicitly undertook t
o teach me the teachable parts of his frankly charismatic practice\, in or
der that the knowledge be passed on and live on after his own death. This
lecture aims to give the audience a sense of the world of being and beings
that Don Chabo lived in\, a deeply spiritual world organized around basic
principles\, occupied by human\, spirit\, and 'natural' beings. It unfold
s in three parts: (1) the relationship between Don Chabo and me\, includin
g notes on Don Chabo’s teaching style\, (2) a brief sketch of some of hi
s main commitments regarding the spatiotemporal organization of the world
of being\, and (3) a selective sketch of the verbal and corporeal register
in which he moved spirits.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWILLIAM HANKS earned t
he Joint PhD in Linguistics and Anthropology at The University of Chicago
(1983)\, where he remained as a professor in both departments until 1996.
Since 2000\, he has held the Berkeley Distinguished Chair in Linguistic An
thropology at UC Berkeley\, served as Chair of the Anthropology Department
\, (2001-2006) and as founding Director of Social Science Matrix\, Berkele
y’s flagship research institute for cross-disciplinary social science (2
013-19). A former Guggenheim Fellow (1996)\, he received the Gumperz Award
for Lifetime Achievement from the International Pragmatics Association (2
 025) and was elected corresponding member of the Académie des Inscription
 s et Belles Lettres\, Institut de France (2025). \nHis research combines s
ocial anthropology\, linguistics and history\, with a focus on Maya langua
ge and culture in Yucatan Mexico where he has conducted 36 months of archi
val and field work among Maya speakers. He is the author of numerous artic
les and books\, including REFERENTIAL PRACTICE\, LANGUAGE AND LIVED SPACE
AMONG THE MAYA (U Chicago Press 1990) and CONVERTING WORDS\, MAYA IN THE A
GE OF THE CROSS (U California Press\, 2010)\, winner of the Edward Sapir B
ook Prize\, Society for Linguistic Anthropology and the Staley Book Prize\
, School for Advanced Research. His recent work has focused mainly on cont
emporary Maya shamanism with a special focus on shamanic practice in Yucat
ec Maya. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease be advised that by entering this
