DESCRIPTION:Filmmaker Rustin Thompson journeys into the American West on a
search for traces of what was once a center of small-town life: the movie
theater. On the trip\, he finds long abandoned and forgotten cinemas\; mo
vie houses that have fallen into disrepair\; theaters recently closed\, th
eaters struggling to hold on\, and theaters that—thanks to their thought
ful caretakers—are not only surviving but thriving. Between the stops al
ong the way\, Rustin poetically intersperses excerpts from Peter Bogdanovi
ch’s 1971 classic film The Last Picture Show\, as well as reflections on
past and present hardships facing the film exhibition industry. The Last
Picture Shows is not only a timely portrait of an industry in crisis\, one
facing the headwinds of consolidation\, streaming\, and the diminishing t
heatrical experience\, but it also reminds viewers that even in vast cinem
a deserts\, there are oases of community and gathering that remain\, where
the movie house continues to be a place of wonder\, contemplation\, and c
onnection. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nDirector Rustin Thompson is a writer and filmmake
r and deejay based in Seattle. His recent films include The Last Picture S
hows and Died Without Issue. His hybrid essay film\, Slow Revolution\, pla
yed in several international film festivals\, and his film My Mother Was H
ere won Best Documentary at the Tacoma Film Festival. His very first docum
entary\, made in 2000\, was 30 Frames A Second\, won several Best Document
ary awards\, was named one of the Top Ten films of the year by the America
n Library Association\, and one of the Best Undistributed Films of 2001 by
The Village Voice. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCenter for C

DESCRIPTION:Will Poulter and Noah Centineo deliver pitch-perfect performan
ces as brothers Cody and Jack Parsons\, each navigating a court-mandated d
rug rehabilitation program in a pocket of rural Ohio hit hard by the opioi
d epidemic. Provided with hope for the first time since their struggles be
gan and with the support of a tireless counselor (Annette Deao)\, the brot
hers work toward a brighter\, sober future. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPoulter and Cent
ineo blend seamlessly with a supporting cast composed predominantly of non
-professional actors as they share their actual experiences\, pain\, and o
ptimism as they\, themselves\, navigate the program. Ohio-born filmmaker A
dam Meeks creates a film imbued with realism for an honest\, compassionate
portrait of a battle being fought across America and the solidarity that
flowers on its front lines. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The opioid epidemic has been
ravaging the United States for decades\, and while much attention has been
paid to Big Pharma and the root causes and effects of the epidemic\, topi
cs of addiction treatment and access to recovery communities are still und
er-recognized. Although many recovery programs across the country are inef
fective or problematic\, the drug courts I’ve observed in Ohio are profo
und in their values\, their success rates\, and in their underlying sense
of hope and connection. With Union County I’ve intended to look directly
at that notion of connection\, to celebrate the drug court and its partic
ipants\, and to explore a complex but hopeful counter-narrative to the opi
oid epidemic that needs to be seen — a young man getting back on his fee
 t. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhile the film employs a fictional dramatic narrative bui
lt around Will Poulter and Noah Centineo’s central performances\, many o
f the court interactions emerge through a documentary process in the real
space\, with the real people. Additionally\, many of the supporting charac
ters are portrayed by non-professional actors from the Ohio recovery commu
nity playing versions of themselves\; this includes Annette Deao\, Judge B
raig\, and the majority of the recovery community surrounding our lead act
ors. The convergence of professional and non-professional actors is intend
ed to ground the story in authenticity and to invite collaboration from th
e community and the real-life characters themselves. ” -Director’s St

DESCRIPTION:Our country is now celebrating the 250th anniversary of the De
claration of Independence. Everyone understands the urge to place special
emphasis on anniversaries that are even multiples of ten\, but July 4\, 1
776\, was neither the beginning of the American revolution nor its end. A
rguably a more important date in our nation’s history was September 17\,
  1787\, two hundred thirty-nine years ago – sadly\, a prime number! –
when the Constitution under which our country still operates was signed in
Philadelphia and submitted to the thirteen states for ratification.\n\nTh
is lecture will inquire into the nature of a “constitution” in general
\, describe some of the intellectual\, historical\, and political currents
that shaped the document produced by the Constitutional Convention in the
summer of 1787\, ask which of its features have proved especially valuabl
e\, and discuss whether some others might profit from reconsideration or a

DESCRIPTION:DOORS 6:30pm  •  All Ages\n\n\n\nSponsored by La Cumbre
Brewing Co. in memory of Judy Christopher \nIn a span of two decades\, two
 -time Grammy nominated vocalist\, lyricist\, composer\, arranger\, playwr
ight\, actress\, educator\, and social justice activist\, René Marie is
guided and tempered by powerful life lessons and her music is rooted in t
he jazz traditions of icons from past generations. Influenced by her sout
hern upbringing\, she incorporates folk\, R&B\, country and classical elem
ents into her music and her body of work is truly an “exploration of th
e bright and dark corners of the human experience – a musical architectu
re for the human spirit.” Her unique artistry has been recognized with
multiple domestic and international awards including the two Grammy nomina
tions for Best Jazz Vocal Album. She has recorded 11 albums and appeared a
t countless festivals and concert stages\, inspiring people with her perfo
rmances and her life story. Tonight\, Marie and her band\, Experiment in T
ruth\, presents a musical tribute to the great Harry Belafonte\, performin
g his well-known songs\, including “Coconut Woman\,” “Scratch Me Ba
ck\,” “Jump in the Line\,” and others. Marie notes:  “Maybe it wa
s the audible\, irrepressible joy\, the mischief\, or the heartfelt delive
ry in every song he sang\; qualities that obliterated any pain or doubt\,
drew me out of my shyness… By listening carefully\, I could see in my mi
nd’s eye the full detail of whichever character he happened to be singin
g about. Was it the percussion alone? Or the playful vocabulary of calypso
as a whole? Was it simply the FUN in singing along with “Matilda”\,
“Scratch Me Back” or “Jump In the Line”? Whatever the ingredients\
, I have memorized the lyrics\, savored the music and danced to it my enti
re life. Belafonte’s music touches something so fundamental and personal
that words simply dissipate . . .long before I became aware of his dedica
tion to the civil rights movement\, he provided a healing for my spirit th
at I didn’t know I needed. That laid the foundation for all his admirabl
e works I was to learn about – and not merely learn about\, but attempt
to imitate as an adult.”  Marie will be joined by Etienne Charles\, t
 rumpet and percussion\; Andrae Murchison\, trombone\; Dan Wilson\, guitar\
 ; Xavier Davis\, piano\; Rodney Jordan\, bass\; and Quentin E. Baxter\,
drums and percussion. Tickets $25–$49 ($10 discount for Outpost & Lensi
c Members) (No Member Passes) \nClick HERE for tickets.

now\, these classes are packed with information about the history of Buddh
ism and Sanbo Zen\, the core teachings of our lineage\, Zendo etiquette\,
and meditation instruction. To help facilitate a more easeful experience d
uring these classes\, our teachers have created an updated curriculum\, sp
reading this wealth of information across four classes each month. \nWhile
participants are encouraged to participate in all four installments\, th
ere isn’t a particular order or sequence required – you can jump in
any time and attend one or all. Each class still begins with introductions

zazen) and includes time for Q&A. \n~~~~ \nIntro to Zen is designed for

ription of the different types of practice\, from daily zazen to Zazenkai
(a full day of practice) to weekend and 6-day retreats (called Sesshin). \

DESCRIPTION:Falling into the Heart of This World\nFree Interactive Webinar
  (Please RSVP) \nSunday\, September 20th\, 2:00-3:15pm MT \nOnline Only:
sit.mountaincloud.org password: mountain22 \nRSVP to join live or to rece
ive the recording \nRSVP Here \nFalling of many kinds pervades Zen literat
ure. What will we discover in a month of experimenting with falling — fa
lling into life\, falling into sensitive presence\, falling into breath or
koan or just-sitting\, falling into full-hearted ways of being with other
s? \nIn the lead up to our upcoming 30 Days of Zen: Falling into the Heart
of This World program\, join our teachers for this interactive conversati
on. Together\, we’ll explore how falling has shown up in different teach
ers’ practice\, the gravity of the Dharma\, and what might become possib
le when we truly surrender to this life\, exactly as it is.  \nFor those
curious about the 30 Days course\, we’ll share how the program works and
why this format can spark such depth and transformation\, wherever we are
on our spiritual path. \nProgram Agenda (subject to change): \n\nWelcome\
nConversation Among Teachers: What do we mean by “falling into the heart
of the world”? How have you experienced falling in your practice? How h
ave you experienced surrender in your practice? \nComments and Q&A\nFalli
ng into the heart of this world: the course format and a taste of how the
theme of falling might enter into our daily sitting\nClosing & invitation

DESCRIPTION:a·foot 2026 · santa fe and abq hiking group\nAs the 2025 sum
mer fourteener season comes to an end\, it is time to begin planning for n
ext year. If you are new to the fourteeners and hope to explore them in 20
26\, this class is for you.\n\n“Perhaps there’s no better act of simpl
 ification than climbing a mountain. For an afternoon\, a day\, or a week\,
it’s a way of reducing a complicated life into a simple goal. All you h
ave to do is take one step at a time\, place one foot in front of the othe
r\, and refuse to turn back until you’ve given everything you have.”
― Ken Ilgunas\n\nComments from previous attendees:\n\n"Very thorough and
very engaging presentation. Excellent use of web and presentation technol
ogy. And\, very educational!"\n\nJoin presenter Bernard Tibbetts as he int
roduces you to the peaks in Colorado over 14\,000 feet. Known as the Color
ado Fourteeners\, they provide amazing alpine experiences for thousands of
people each year at all experience levels: hikers\, backpackers\, rock cl
imbers and seasoned mountaineers alike.\n\nBernard will:\n\n• Introduce
you to the Colorado mountain ranges and groups where the Fourteeners are l
ocated.\n• Discuss "first Fourteener" options.\n• Explain how to resea
rch route and trailhead locations.\n• Explain route ratings and use them
to assess route difficulty.\n• Present checklists for obtaining proper
gear and clothing.\n• Discuss ideas for getting fit for the Fourteeners.
\n\nBernard Tibbetts has summited all of the Colorado Fourteeners and has
been leading Fourteener hikes for over 10 years.
