DESCRIPTION:Mountain Grass Unit\nAppalachian Smoke Tour\nSeptember 22\, 20
 26 • 7:00 pm\nDOORS 6:00pm  •  21+ without parent or guardian\n\nH
ailing from Birmingham\, Alabama\, Mountain Grass Unit has rapidly emerged
as one of the most electrifying young bands in modern bluegrass\, fusing
 razor-sharp picking\, fearless improvisation\, and four-part harmony into
a sound that feels both rooted and revolutionary. The quartet — Drury An
 derson (mandolin\, vocals)\, Luke Black (guitar\, vocals)\, Josiah Nelson
(fiddle\, vocals)\, and Sam Wilson (bass\, vocals) — first turned heads
with their 2024 EP Runnin’ From Trouble\, but 2025 proved to be their tr
ue breakthrough year. The band logged nearly 100 national tour dates\, sol
d out over thirty headline shows\, and delivered standout festival perform
 ances at Telluride Bluegrass\, DelFest\, Northlands\, an d WinterWonderGra
ss. \nRolling Stone praised them as the “surprise show” of Telluride\,
while Saving Country Music declared them the “next big band in bluegras
s\,” with further national spotlight through exclusive live sessions wit
h Paste\, Relix\, and No Depression\, cementing their arrival on the natio
nal stage. Their momentum peaked during IBMA week\, where they earned the
International Bluegrass Music Association’s Momentum Artist of the Year
award\, a defining milestone in a year of exponential growth. \nNow in the
studio crafting their next full-length album\, due late summer\, and fres
h off support runs with genre leaders like The Infamous Stringdusters and
Kitchen Dwellers\, the band continues to expand its reach. Along the way\,
they’ve shared stages with legends like Billy Strings and Greensky Blue
grass in a series of high-profile moments that underscore the respect they
’ve earned from the genre’s leading voices. Mountain Grass Unit isn’
t simply riding bluegrass’s current resurgence\, they are helping steer
it\, staking their claim as one of the most vital and forward-looking youn
g bands in American roots music today.

ter teasing fans on social media with ominous imagery\, snippets of lush k
eyboard washes\, and cryptic references to classic science fiction stories
\, the band that emerged over a decade ago out of Los Angeles returns with
Syndicate\, their fifth studio album (not even counting the three EPs rel
eased between) and their most ambitious and outward-looking work yet. Synd
icate evolves The Midnight’s simultaneously retro and forward-looking so
und while cementing the band’s status as perhaps the most musically and
lyrically ambitious act to come out of the burgeoning synthwave scene.\nWi
th four singles already released from the 17-track album (“Shadowverse\,
 ” “Digital Dreams\,” “Chariot\,” and “Love is an Ocean\,”) t
he listener can already get a sense of the wider canvas the band is painti
ng with. “This is our ‘making peace with the apocalypse’ record\,”
says singer and lyricist Tyler Lyle.\nAnd while Syndicate’s lyrics embr
ace the unsettled\, sometimes paranoid side of the 1980s (few reminisces o
f the period focus on how preoccupied by nuclear war the eighties were) Ly
le’s creative partner Tim McEwan brings undertones of anxiety and even d
oom to the lush synth washes and hooky yet unexpected chord progressions t
hat fans of The Midnight have come to know and love.\nThe band was born in
spring 2012 from the fortuitous meeting of two very different musical sen
sibilities. Atlanta-born Lyle emerged from the folk-inflected Georgia musi
c scene that grew up around the legendary Eddie’s Attic live music venue
. “I came to LA thinking I was gonna be the next Mumford and Sons\,” L
yle laughs\, recalling how he was put together with Danish songwriter and
multi-instrumentalist Tim McEwan in what he calls “a songwriters’ blin
d date.”\nThe two quickly discovered the overlap of their creative Venn
diagram lay in the moody\, synthesizer-driven sound that exploded in popul
arity in the wake of the cult thriller Drive and especially its enormously
influential retro-1980s inspired soundtrack. But the new musical directio
n required a lot of adjustment from both men. “Up until then I’d been
moving in more traditional pop circles\,” recalls McEwan\, “and I real
ly had to unlearn those tendencies.”\nFor McEwan\, this meant embracing
his inner maximalist\, using the maxim “If it feels like it’s over the
top…add more!”\nAnd for Lyle\, it meant moving away from narrative-dr
iven lyrics and toward songs that relied more on imagery and pure mood.
“I decided at some point that I’m not gonna tell a story\,” says Lyl
e\, “Instead\, I’m gonna describe what the scenery is.”\nThe result
is a listening experience that evokes in the listener Proustian sense memo
ries of first loves and afternoons on the couch playing 8-bit video games
while simultaneously feeling downright cinematic. In a genre sometimes der
ided for trafficking in easy nostalgia\, The Midnight eschews putting air
quotes around the DX7 solo of a 1980s radio hit in favor of washing over l
isteners and making them feel like they’re standing on a rainy street un
der neon inside a Michael Mann or a Tony Scott movie. \n“I got into (myt
hologist and Hero With a Thousand Faces author) Joseph Campbell and (Swiss
psychotherapist and author) Carl Jung in a big way and realized at some p
oint that instead of just being a synth pop band we were building an entir
e world with all of these archetypes\,” says Lyle. “We realized we wer
e playing with the imagery of the ‘80s\, but in the same way Springsteen
did with midcentury America and factory work and such. That’s when it r
eally became fun.” \nAlso notable in a scene more known for studio exper
imentation\, The Midnight quickly emerged as an exciting live rock and rol
l band with a big and devoted young audience that grew completely outside
the major label/radio airplay apparatus\, scoring three number one singles
on Billboard’s electronic music chart\, playing major festivals\, selli
ng out massive headline tours\, and co-headlining a 2024 run with Chromeo.
“That always trips me out\,” says McEwan. “When we first started pl
aying live\, I wondered who was gonna show up. Was it just going to be peo
ple over 35?”\nBut the burdens of building and sustaining that audience
outside the corporate mainstream took their toll. McEwan recently withdrew
from touring to focus on songwriting and studio work\, while Lyle dealt w
ith a family health crisis that sent his muse on a voyage into bleak and s
unless lands. “I was spending a lot of time in doctors’ offices\, and
thinking about the larger world and are we living in the end of times?”
Recalls Lyle. “But the truth is\, all eight billion of our individual wo
rlds will end — for each of us the apocalypse always comes.” \nMcEwan\
, too\, found himself grappling with grief\, loss and depression during th
is period. But ironically — or appropriately\, depending on one’s pers
pective — their parallel journeys into darkness ended up leaving The Mid
night creatively re-energized. “We really reconnected with how much fun
we had at the start of this journey\,” says McEwan. “This record is th
e most honest and earnest thing we’ve ever done.” \nSo despite its oft
en heady and heavy themes\, Syndicate ends up being less about endings and
more of a journey toward an unknown destination. Lyle frames it simply: \
n“Everything is ending\, so let’s get started now.”

DESCRIPTION:PIXIES\nFounding members\; Black Francis\, Joey Santiago and D
avid Lovering\, with bassist Emma Richardson – mark four decades of the
band by announcing Pixies 40\, a new headline worldwide tour. \nFrom thei
r earliest club shows\, the band exuded a combination of chaos and control
that left audiences wide-eyed. No glamour\, little stage banter\; just a
relentless surge of sound that resonated with those in attendance. For man
y fans\, those early gigs were less concerts than revelations\, a glimpse
into a new way rock music could be performed. \n1987’s mini-album Come O
n Pilgrim (which followed the release of Demos – more commonly known to
fans as “The Purple Tapes” – also re-issued in October 2025)\, intro
duced the world to their fragmented\, surreal songwriting. 1988’s Surfer
Rosa made critics\, and underground audiences realize that Pixies were do
ing something that hadn’t been heard before. Recorded with raw precision
\, these early albums captured the explosive dynamics that their concerts
already embodied. Songs jumped between whispered calm and thunderous erupt
ions\; the same jolts audiences were feeling in dimly lit venues across th
e Europe and back home in their native US. \nDoolittle in 1989\, moved the
needle. That album\, packed with pop hooks twisted into strange\, menacin
g shapes\, brought Pixies onto larger stages and into the consciousness of
a wider public. Their shows grew more frenetic\, audiences swelling and s
urging in rhythm with the music\, a direct reflection of the tension and r
elease encoded in their songs. \nBy the early 1990s\, the Pixies were in t
heir groove. Relentless touring across North America and Europe became an
essential ticket for any fans who claimed to be lovers of alternative rock
. A wall of sound that was never predictable\, shifting between fragility
and violence in a matter of seconds. A band who needed no such spectacle o
r theatrics\, just an intensity of sudden release. The music was the show.
\nFan favourites Bossanova and Trompe le Monde followed in 1990 and 1991 r
espectfully\, before the disbanding of the band in 1993.\nOver a decade pa
ssed\, but Pixies finally reformed in 2004\, the response was electric. Ti
ckets for their first shows sold out instantly\, and the band quickly foun
d themselves playing to an unprecedented crowd at Coachella festival. More
touring and in rooms much larger than they ever did before. \nThe reunion
reaffirmed the band’s reputation as a live act. If anything\, their per
formances had grown sharper. Multiple generations of fans from different b
ackgrounds found themselves together embracing Pixies’ genre defining se
ts. Those who were there in the beginning during the late 80’s and early
90’s\, those who never had the chance to see the band first time around
\, those who were not even born during that time.\nSince re-formation the
band have been even more prolific\, releasing more music since their reinc
arnation with album’s\; Indie Cindy\, Head Carrier\, Beneath the Eyrie\,
Doggerel and The Night the Zombies Came begin released between 2014 and 2
 024. Recent years have seen the band routinely touring all four corners of
the globe with their own sold-out headline shows and to festival audience
s alike\, while still being referenced as a major influence of contemporar
y alternative artists and bands. \nPixies… a band marking their 40th yea
r together\, still relevant and still innovative – there are no signs of
  stopping.

ng-awaited eighth studio album and most personal and visceral work to date
. One of the last recordings by late\, legendary producer Steve Albini (Ni
rvana\, PJ Harvey etc.)\, record captures the Texas foursome live in the s
tudio bottling their raw\, Southern-tinged grunge with unfiltered immediac
 y. Formed in Fort Worth in 1989\, Toadies marry the band’s love for the
Pixies and Talking Heads to the old-school country\, ZZ Top\, and classic
rock they all grew up on. It’s a sound intoxicating but uneasy\, cathart
ic yet always searching. Frontman Vaden Todd Lewis channels years of self-
reflection into The Charmer\, a concept born from pandemic isolation and a
reckoning with self-doubt. Released via Austin’s pioneering Spaceflight
Records (The Sword\, Die Spitz\, Heartless Bastards)\, the world’s firs
t nonprofit label\, The Charmer embodies true creative freedom: made on th
eir own terms\, with Steve Albini their dream producer. The Charmer is the
most defiantly “Toadies” Toadies album yet. \n\nLOCAL H\nLocal H is k
nown for their blistering live shows and for pioneering the two-man band s
et-up — frontman Scott Lucas covers both guitar and bass through an extr
a pick up in his guitar and drummer Ryan Harding pounds out the rest of th
e sound. While they have earned praise in the past for their catalog of cl
ever concept albums\, Local H have forgone a singular theme on their most
recent album — Hey\, Killer (out April 2015 on G&P Records) — turning
 out a non-stop blast of straight-up\, hooky\, guitar-heavy rock songs —
each one catchier than the last. The band’s discography includes seven o
ther studio albums\, a live album\, and a bunch of EPs and “Straight Out
 ta Zion\,” a Blu-ray concert video (release date 8/12/16). \nLocal H’s
widely praised 1998 concept album Pack Up the Cats earned a spot in SPIN
magazine’s top 20 albums of that year. The band was named “Chicagoans
of the Year” by the Chicago Tribune for their 2008 break-up album\, 12 A
ngry Months\, more than a decade after their breakthrough hit “Bound for
the Floor” ruled the Modern Rock charts. In 2015\, Local H celebrated t
he 25th anniversary of their first show and released a career-spanning cof
fee table book\, Local H: Twenty-Five Years of Skin In The Game. Earlier t
his year\, they re-issued their 1996 album\, As Good As Dead\, on vinyl fo
r the first time. \nLocal H is currently on tour with Metallica while they
continue to relentlessly tour the world! \n\nOLIVE VOX\nOlive Vox” is t
he Dallas-based alt rock project of Parker James\, Caden Shea\, and Ben Re
id. Olive Vox pulls inspiration from across the alternative rock world\, f
rom the fist-pumping pop rock of bands like Nirvana and Cage the Elephant\
, to the punk rock energy of Turnstile. The trio started releasing music i
n 2021 and have since grown a large following on social media and have sha
red stages with notable acts like Ty Segall\, Violent Vira\, and Puddle of
  Mudd.

DESCRIPTION:SAMMY RAE & THE FRIENDS\nFor as much as Sammy Rae & The Frien
ds may be a band\, this collective of dreamers and artists considers them
selves a family first. That all-for-one and one-for-all camaraderie ignite
s their unforgettable and can’t-miss live shows\, which serve as a catha
rsis for both the musicians and their fervent audience. Fronted by singer/
songwriter Sammy Rae and honed through years of touring\, the group is cap
able of flourishing in any spotlight thanks to its signature blend of palp
able chemistry\, deft virtuosity\, and vocal fireworks. \nTheir sound\, wh
ich has attracted new fans by the thousands in the past few years\, is a u
nique mélange of Sammy’s influences: classic rock\, folk and funk and s
prinkled with soul and jazz. Rae has been building toward this moment sinc
e moving to NYC from Connecticut in her early 20s. Finding herself without
a built-in peer group\, she simply built it herself: the literal and prov
erbial Friends. When she started playing shows\, she made sure the audienc
e was part of the family too. Everything that’s happened since – from
 EP’s “The Good Life” (2018) and “Let’s Throw a Party” (2021) t
o sold-out shows in major markets and secondary markets alike across North
American and the UK & Europe\, to high-profile festival sets around the w
 orld\, including Bonnaroo’s main stage\, Sound on Sound\, All Things Go\
, and more – has been based on friends telling friends. \nWith the relea
se of their debut album “Something For Everybody” in 2024\, Sammy Rae
& The Friends have come to represent more than just a band: they are a ful
l-on movement being adopted with refreshingly diverse clientele.  The ban
d is currently working on their next album.

 \n49 Winchester’s latest album\, Change of Plans\, marks a defining mom
ent for the Appalachian band as they step onto the national stage after ye
ars of relentless touring and evolution. Recorded in just eight days with
Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb\, the album captures the group’s raw
energy\, blending country\, rock\, and Southern storytelling with influenc
es ranging from hard rock to Black Sabbath. Frontman Isaac Gibson says
the record reflects both the band’s creative growth and personal maturit
 y\, with themes of change\, family\, perseverance\, and life in Southern A
ppalachia woven throughout. Formed in the small town of Castlewood by ch
 ildhood friends Gibson\, Chase Chafin\, and Bus Shelton\, 49 Winchester h
as grown from front porch jam sessions into one of modern country’s most
talked-about live acts — all while staying rooted in the authenticity a
nd friendship that started it all.

r new album ‘Mud Blood Bone’ with abandon. Can’t find my love? It’
s not the somber lament of a longing woman\, but a feral eruption\, the ro
ar of an animal on the edge. Her voice crumples with dismay\, a swampy cro
on over romping keys. I got a hole in my chest  / I can’t take the empt
iness / Where is my love? It’s the essential question of ‘Mud Blood Bo
ne\,’ a void eleven frenetic songs sizzle to fill. \nThe Canadian songwr
iter’s fourth full-length and first release with Concord Records finds h
er at a point of personal evolution. “I wrote these songs at the end of
a big cycle\,” she shares. “Love was not present in my life and I didn
’t know where to find it or how to get it back.” Essential to the sear
ch\, Clyde discovered\, was relinquishing old notions. “In the past\, I
felt like love chained me\, controlled me\, put me in a cage.” \nProduce
d with Drew Vandenberg (Toro Y Moi\, Faye Webster\, S.G. Goodman) and reco
rded at Chase Park Transduction in Athens\, Georgia\, Clyde’s new collec
tion exists in a sonic overlap\; the rockabilly grit of contemporaries lik
e Sierra Ferrell\, The Deslondes\, or Nick Shoulders\, meets the vulnerabl
e\, folk rock volatility of Big Thief or Angel Olsen. “Drew was the perf
ect person to help me assemble the players and bring this collection to li
fe\,” says Clyde. “Everyone brought their own unique gift to the studi
 o. I create from a place of instinct\, and once we all locked in\, it felt
easy\, and we were able to capture the songs live.” Liam Duncan of Boy
Golden was another integral collaborator. “He was there from day one dem
os to the album’s finalization\,” Clyde explains\, “as a great frien
d\, musician\, and anchor to the original sentiment of each song.” \nCly
de’s foundational relationship with music began through a vent in the fl
oor. “I’d lift the rug up to hear my grandfather playing his fiddle al
ong to cassette tapes in the basement.” This was in North Ontario at sum
mertime family gatherings\, the best of which would culminate in impromptu
  family jam sessions. “I can’t really remember a time when I wasn’t
singing.” After a fleeting\, childhood stint with the piano\, Clyde took
on the guitar around age thirteen. “When I discovered Blues music—wel
l—that changed my life.” The riffs of Lead Belly and Robert Johnson we
re too complicated for her small\, preteen hands to master\, but they insp
ired Clyde to write her own songs.  She busked through adolescence\, join
ed a punk band called Shit Bats in college\, and recorded her first album
 in a friend’s basement before she graduated. Four full-lengths later\, C
lyde’s voice vibrates with that ferocious confidence of one who’s been
doing this her whole life. \n‘Mud Blood Bone’ exudes a nomadic indepe
ndence. Clyde penned some of the songs in her 1973 Boler trailer\, parked
temporarily on a farm in Ontario\, others on a narrow boat in England\, an
d the rest in transit from one festival to another\, letting lyrics stream
freely from a jetlagged dream state.  “Constantly being on the move\,
having to navigate new environments\, it forces me to be present\, and to
confront my own feelings\,” Clyde says. “You can’t hide behind comfo
rts. You have to know exactly who you are\, and what you want.” \nThe re
sult is uninhibited\, raw\, pure\; it’s the sound of personal truth disc
overed in real time. Clyde is cracked wide open and what spills out—equa
 l parts despair\, invocation\, discovery\, and celebration—is the love s
he went looking for. “When I listen to this album\, I know that my power
belongs to me. Love lives inside of me. I can always find it.” \n‘Mud
  Blood Bone’ was released on March 13\, 2026. \n\nDEAN JOHNSON\nWith I
Hope We Can Still Be Friends\, his debut for Saddle Creek\, Dean Johnson m
akes a pact with the listener: He will sing you his truth in the most hear
tfelt and charming way possible\, if you promise to keep an open mind. \nT
he title partly stems from the playful way the Seattle-based singer\, song
writer and guitarist communes with his audiences at concerts. “I hope yo
u’re not afraid to talk to me after the show\,” he’ll say\, sweetly\
, before launching into “Death of the Party\,” the album’s seventh s
ong. Centered on the “energy vampire” archetype — the exasperating w
indbag we’ve all encountered at some point — its lyrics are at once in
tellectually biting and unmistakably hilarious. His tender voice rings out
like the ghost of Roy Orbison or a misfit Everly brother. \n“Words don
’t come easily to me / I notice you don’t have that problem / It sound
s to me you cannot stop them\,” Johnson sings over acoustic guitar strum
ming\, and gentle bass and drums\, like the narrator in a dark comedy whos
e coming-of-age misadventures have made for an excellent film. \nJohnson s
pent years tending bar at Al’s Tavern in Seattle’s Wallingford neighbo
rhood. There\, he encountered folks of all stripes\; and regulars enthusia
stically murmured about his budding musical greatness — There’s the b
est songwriter in town! Johnson was a kind of local lore\, a long-held fa
mily secret\, before the singer finally broke out in 2023 with his debut a
lbum\, Nothing For Me Please\, at age 50. \n“‘Death of the Party’ i
s a great example of that\,” he says of the sociological experience of b
artending. “Being in that environment\, lyrics did solidify. If I was wo
rking on a song\, it wasn’t unusual for some new aspect of it\, or a lin
e that was too vague\, to suddenly come into focus.” \nI Hope We Can Sti
ll Be Friends is essentially an anthology that bridges Johnson’s earlie
st days as a songwriter with his present-day outlook and abilities. There
are songs that have been in his setlists for years\, and others that will
be new to fans. Each of its 11 tracks contains jocular social commentary o
r lovingly rendered affairs of the heart. The album’s songs about love a
nd relationships offer another way to interpret its title: as a parting th
ought to an ex. \nLike all of Johnson’s cable-knit writing\, the title i
s a clever banner for the album’s dual nature\, the thing that binds its
tragedy and comedy masks. Johnson explains that he didn’t set out to ma
ke a concept album. It’s a coincidence that about half of the album’s
songs are a bit sardonic\, and the other half are more lighthearted. The s
inger playfully refers to the former as his “mean” songs\, which is wh
y the album’s back cover is adorned with a warning that says “Beware o
f Dean.” \nLike John Prine or Kris Kristofferson’s country-adjacent so
und\, devastating humor and economical profundity refracted through a barr
oom’s haze\, the album is filled with easygoing twang\, sad characters\,
universal truths and the absurdity of everyday life. “Carol” recounts
the numb consumption and dissipating cultural attention that is besieging
America. There’s a search for optimism amid meditations on dying in a p
lane crash in “Before You Hit the Ground.” Romance that is best forgot
ten steers “So Much Better” — only Johnson could weave electroconvul
sive therapy into a gentle\, chuckle-inducing missive on unbearable heartb
reak. \nI Hope We Can Still Be Friends floats in a liminal plane between
timely and timeless\, its minimalist instrumentation elevating Johnson’s
affecting voice to new heights. Recorded at Unknown Studio in Anacortes\,
Washington\, the record was produced by Sera Cahoone — the Seattle-base
d singer-songwriter Johnson describes as a “soulmate sibling.” Overdub
bing took place at Seattle’s Crackle & Pop! \nFor the sessions\, Johnson
assembled a small band of friends including Abbey Blackwell (bass)\, mult
i-instrumentalist Sam Peterson and Cahoone (drums\, backing vocals)\, who
created a familial tone on the already intimate album. I Hope We Can Stil
l Be Friends\, with its sharp observations and stirring personal insights\
, holds space for both intense reflection and emotional release. You may l
augh\, or cry or both. In this sense\, the album is powerful medicine —
a way to both expose yourself to and inoculate yourself against the ugly\,
absurd\, existential and heartbreaking. At its core rests a basic truth t
hat is often difficult to remember or accept: Happiness wouldn’t exist w
ithout sadness as its counterpart. \nOn his uncanny ability to so clearly
see and then encapsulate humanity in all its messy glory\, Johnson offers
this core memory\, drawn from his childhood on Camano Island in the Puget
Sound. “I was raised on a bluff\,” he says. “I’m not trying to mak
e it sound dramatic\, but I did have a sweeping view.”
