 ogs and cats find their way to forever homes. \nIn one relaxed\, welcoming
  session you’ll discover all the ways you can pitch in: walking wiggly p
 ups\, coaxing shy cats out of their shells\, fostering\, or lending a hand
  at community events. No experience needed — just a love for animals and
  a couple of hours to spare. \nA few things to know before you join the pa
 ck: \n\n🐶 Volunteers must be 16 or older. Younger animal lovers can exp
 lore our youth programs\, including youth volunteering.\n📅 Most hands-o
 n animal roles ask for a weekly commitment — the animals thrive on consi

 r’s Pet Food Pantry\nOur Pet Food Pantry was founded in memory of Heathe
 r Zir\, a Santa Cruz resident and lifelong animal lover. Last year the pan
 try welcomed 4\,372 client visits and served 531 families\, including 158 
 seniors — helping hundreds of animals stay home with the people who love
  them. \nThe need keeps growing. Before the pandemic we distributed 13\,00
 0 pounds of pet food a year\; this year we’re working toward 82\,000 pou
 nds. \nWant to help?\nThe pantry runs entirely on community generosity —
  we receive no government funding. You can make a gift to the Pet Food Pan
 try\, or join our volunteer team and lend a hand on Sunday afternoons. \nC
 an’t make it on a Sunday? Our partners also distribute pet food during t
 he week: the Santa Cruz Salvation Army (721 Laurel St.\, Monday–Thursday
 \, 9:00–11:30 AM) and Twin Lakes People’s Pantry (2701 Cabrillo Colleg
