DESCRIPTION:This ensemble of mostly Bay Area/Marin musicians played what w
as supposed to be a “two-off” Sly & The Family Stone tribute this past
March at Hopmonk Novato and Moe’s Alley in Santa Cruz. Magic happened d
uring those two shows\, and everyone agreed\, just with facial expressions
and body language\, that we must keep this going and do more shows.  Da
 n “Lebo” Lebowitz\, Vicki Randle\, Ray White\, Mookie Siegel\, Ezra Li
pp\, Steve Adams\, Marcus Stephens and Brendan Liu were the perfect ensemb
le to interpret Sly’s music those two fantastic evenings.  Vocals\, in
strumentation\, passion and spirit all turned up to 11.  For the Septembe
r ’26 shows\, we are thrilled to announce that Natalie Cressman will be
joining the ensemble on trombone and vocals.  She’s a tenured member o
f the Trey Anastasio Band among other incredible projects. This project is
FUN and it fully delivered in March.  That was just a warmup!  These
Sept shows will be talked about and cherished for a very long time! Ticket

== TOMMY CASTRO & THE PAINKILLERS Multiple award-winning guitarist\, vocal
ist\, and bandleader Tommy Castro is a California-based blues and rock pow
erhouse. For over four decades\, he’s captivated audiences with his soul
-drenched vocals\, searing guitar work\, and high-energy live shows. As fr
ontman of the telepathically tight and wildly raucous Tommy Castro & The P
ainkillers\, he’s released 17 albums that span a wide stylistic range—
 from horn-driven R&B and hot-blooded soul to gritty\, stripped-down rock a
nd electric blues. With his latest and eighth Alligator Records release\,
Closer To The Bone \, Castro returns to his roots\, delivering what he cal
ls “a real blues record\, the way they would have made them back in the
day.” Produced by guitar master Christoffer “Kid” Andersen at San Jo
se’s Greaseland Studio\, the album is Castro’s rawest and most direct
blues effort to date. The album features standout originals like Ain’t W
orth The Heartache \, Can’t Catch A Break \, and Crazy Woman Blues \, al
ongside deep-cut covers of songs by Castro’s friends and influences—Jo
hnny Nitro\, Magic Slim\, Ron Thompson\, Chris Cain\, and more. Guest appe

DESCRIPTION:Two decades after their first ever collaboration\, British-Ita
lian folk songwriter\, Piers Faccini\, and Malian kora virtuoso\, Ballaké
Sissoko\, return with a mesmerizing album. This new and captivating music
al dialogue — between a prodigious instrumentalist at the height of his
powers and a gifted songwriter and wordsmith — deftly bridges continents
and traditions\, inventing new song forms. \nThe seeds of Our Calling wer
e first planted when Sissoko and Faccini met at Label Bleu in the early 20
00s. Their friendship grew as they linked and explored uncharted paths bet
ween Manding traditions and folksong forms. With its ten finely crafted tr
acks\, Our Calling is a sonic and narrative praise song for migration in a
ll its manifestations: seeds borne by the winds\; Nightingales flying betw
een West Africa and Europe at the turn of the seasons\; humans\, across th
e centuries\, and along trade routes\, sharing musical practices and rhyth
ms. \nThe album’s originality is that it feels deeply Malian at its core
\, while also being seamlessly infused with an essence of folk songwriting
\; the two elements blending without one ever overshadowing the other. The
duo’s ambition when they began imagining the album was clear: the music
al language begins and ends with Manding traditions and modes. The songs h
ad that creative brief. Their melodies\, although sung in English\, are co
nstructed and stepped along Manding lines. \nThe originality of Sissoko an
d Faccini’s dialogue is best exemplified with the song “If Nothing is
Real” — a song that succeeds in finding a home away from home\, both o
n the African and European continents. It is a testament to the Nightingal

day of the event ==== MAGIC SWORD In the beginning there was light… and
darkness. A creation of perfect balance. As time passed\, evil spread ove
r the land like a plague\, slowly consuming everything in its path. In the
final moments before light was lost to the shadow for all time\, a weapon
of infinite power was created\, the Magic Sword. Thus\, restoring balance
to the universe. The genesis of things are often small. As the single see
d grows to a mighty oak\, so too did the path of the Keeper begin as a sin
gle choice in an age long past. Once a humble king\, he was manipulated in
to unleashing the Dark One. All of reality was torn asunder as the Lord of
Shadow was released from their ancient prison\, having been bound by the
power of the the Magic Sword. From that day forth\, the King was cursed to
be the eternal Keeper of this powerful key. He has been compelled for mil
lennia to find the Chosen One who will unleash the true power of the weapo
n and won't rest until the grand design is complete with the Darkness boun
d once again. The Keeper of the Magic Sword searches endlessly for the Cho
sen One. This prophesied being contains the ability to wield the power of
the Magic Sword and seal the prison that holds Dark One for all eternity.
Until the chosen one is revealed\, search continues in this realm and many
others throughout all of time and space. In what form will the Magic Swor
d manifest? Who is the Chosen One? Answers will reveal themselves as the n
eed arises. A tale of high adventure as old as time itself. SKYLIMIT Haili
ng from Boise\, Idaho\, Skylimit is an Indie and Alt-Pop project by Stephe
 n Balcos\, founded in 2013. Blending bright synths\, uplifting production\
, and heartfelt melodies\, Skylimit produces songs that feel like late-nig
ht drives\, small-town summers\, and moments suspended in time. He recentl
y released his debut album “Maryland”\, an album based in a fictional
town that features songs about locations and memories with a fun\, high en
 ergy\, and almost nostalgic tone.

–– \nGuitarist and singer John Pizzarelli has been hailed by the Bosto
n Globe for “reinvigorating the Great American Songbook and re-populariz
ing jazz.” Established as one of the prime contemporary interpreters of
the Great American Songbook\, Pizzarelli has expanded that repertoire by i
ncluding the music of Paul McCartney\, Joni Mitchell\, Neil Young\, Tom Wa
its\, Antônio Carlos Jobim\, and The Beatles. In addition to being a band
leader and solo performer\, Pizzarelli has been a special guest on recordi
ngs for major pop names such as Natalie Cole\, Kristin Chenoweth\, Tom Wop
at\, Rickie Lee Jones\, and Dave Van Ronk\, as well as leading jazz artist
 s such as Rosemary Clooney\, Ruby Braff\, Johnny Frigo\, Buddy DeFranco\,
Harry Allen\, and\, of course\, his father Bucky Pizzarelli. \nFor Pizzare
lli\, Tony Bennett was more than simply an influence. The admiration was m
utual – Bennett could be found in the audience for a number of Pizzarell
i’s performances\, and sketched his likeness on two occasions. The charm
ing artwork that graces the cover of Pizzarelli’s heartfelt new tribute
album\, Dear Mr. Bennett\, was rendered during an engagement at Feinstein
’s nightclub at New York’s Loews Regency hotel. Dear Mr. Bennett\, rel
eased in March 2026\, is on the one hand a loving farewell to a profoundly
influential musician who meant so much to so many. At the same time\, it
’s a spirited celebration\, arriving just in time for Bennett’s landma
rk August 3rd centennial. A five-song EP will follow on August 7th to coin
cide with the occasion. Both releases feature songs made famous by Bennett
over the course of his remarkable seven-decade career\, rendered with liv

the event ==== RAYLAND BAXTER For the making of his fourth album If I Wer
e a Butterfly \, Rayland Baxter holed up for over a year at a former rubbe
r-band factory turned studio in the Kentucky countryside—a seemingly hum
ble environment that proved to be something of a wonderland. “I spent th
at year living in a barn with the squirrels and the birds\, on my own most
of the time\, and I discovered so much about music and how to create it\,
” says the Tennessee-bred singer/songwriter. “Instead of going into a
studio with a producer for two weeks\, I just waited for the record to bui
ld itself. I’d get up and go outside\, see a butterfly and connect that
with some impulsive thought I’d had three months ago\, and suddenly a so
ng I’d been working on would make sense. That’s how the whole album ca
me to be.” The follow-up to 2018’s critically acclaimed Wide Awake \,
If I Were a Butterfly finds Baxter co-producing alongside Tim O’Sullivan
(Grace Potter\, The Head and the Heart) and Kai Welch (Molly Tuttle\, Sie
rra Hull)\, slowly piecing together the album’s patchwork of lush psyche
delia and Beatlesesque pop. In addition to working at Thunder Sound (the K
entucky studio he called home for months on end)\, Baxter recorded in Cali
 fornia\, Texas\, Tennessee\, and Washington\, enlisting a remarkable lineu
p of musicians: Shakey Graves\, Lennon Stella\, several members of Cage th
e Elephant\, Zac Cockrell of Alabama Shakes\, Morning Teleportation’s Tr
avis Goodwin\, and legendary Motown drummer Miss Bobbye Hall\, among many
others. In an especially meaningful turn\, two of the album’s tracks fea
ture the elegant pedal steel work of his father\, Bucky Baxter (a musician
who performed with Bob Dylan and who passed away in May 2020). Thanks to
the extraordinary care and ingenuity behind its creation\, If I Were a But
terfly arrives as a work of rarefied magic\, capable of stirring up immens
e feeling while leaving the listener happily wonderstruck.

DESCRIPTION:Brass Queens is a female-led\, New York-based brass band that
has been dominating the brass band scene since 2019.  \nFinding that they
shared similar frustrations about the emerging brass band scene in New Yo
rk City\, co-founders Alex Harris and Ally Chapel formed a group dedicated
to showcasing the talents of female musicians in a landscape that was dom
inated by male musicians and bandleaders. After debuting in March 2019\, B
rass Queens grew to be a fixture in the local music scene and was dubbed
“the hardest working band in town” by their peers. The Queens gained a
dedicated following through outdoor performances on the streets of Brookl
yn and playing pop-up events in their community through the pandemic. Now\
, a core value of the band is to play for as many audiences as possible to
increase the visibility of female musicians.  \nThe band has developed a
signature style that sits right at the intersection of the Big Apple and
the Big Easy. Their sound is deeply inspired by\, and pays homage to\, the
New Orleans brass band tradition while injecting the upbeat\, multifacete
d energy of their New York home into each performance. In November 2023\,
the band released their first full-length album titled Black & Gold\, whic
h is an ode to the Brass Queen’s incredible early fanbase who supported
the band from the virtual performances and socially-distanced street corne
rs during the COVID-19 pandemic\, to the crowded clubs and packed venues o
f today. Less than a year later\, Brass Queens released their second full-
length album and their first album of all-original music\, titled Hot Tub

DESCRIPTION:Cyrille Aimée grew up in a multilingual household full of mus
ic where dancing was an everyday activity\, soundtracked by the Afro-Carib
bean sounds of her mother’s native Dominican Republic.  \nMoving to New
York City\, her talents quickly gained her a reputation among her peers a
s a matchless interpreter of song. Steven Sondheim invited her to star in
a tribute at New York’s City Centre\, backed by Wynton Marsalis. Her 201
9 album Move On featured versions of Sondheim’s songs which received pra
ise from Sondheim himself\, and her version of “Marry Me a Little”\, w
as nominated for a 2019 GRAMMY Award. \nAt the height of her New York succ
ess\, new horizons beckoned. Visiting New Orleans\, she fell in love with
the energy and diversity of the city and made it her home. Linking back to
New York to connect up all the dots\, she teamed up with producer/multi-i
nstrumentalist Jake Sherman\, and together they created her latest album\,
à Fleur de Peau. Combining the depth and sophistication of jazz\, the im
mediacy of pop\, the irrepressible dance rhythms of the Caribbean\, it’s

DESCRIPTION:El Khat is a homemade junkyard band led by multi-instrumentali
st Eyal El Wahab. Named for the drug used so widely chewed across the Arab
Peninsula\, their original compositions are inspired by the music of the
 golden age in Aden\, Yemen.\n\nExperimenting with DIY\, self-made instrume
nts as an expression of a minimalist life philosophy—while remaining loy
al to traditional Yemeni percussive roots—the three-piece developed a un
ique Arabic-Yemeni style. Although their detachment from any nation or fla
g is a driving force behind the group\, the heart of their music and herit
age remains deeply rooted in Yemeni culture. The constant divisions create
d by war and migration have given rise to a reassembled identity\, one tha
t resonates strongly throughout El Khat’s music. With a fourth album to
be released in 2026\, El Khat continues to forge a sound that bridges past
and present—keeping Yemeni culture alive while reimagining its future.\

the redwood curtain of Humboldt County\, California\, the seven piece funk
-soul band Diggin Dirt has carved out a niche as a live party not to be mi

r the past few years\, with multiple national tours and festival stops at
 Jam Cruise\, High Sierra\, Hulaween\, Same Same but Different\, Live Oak\,
Cascade Equinox\, Joshua Tree Music Festival and many more. Per a 2024 Ja
m Cruise writer\, “This was the soul music I grew up with in the ‘60s
and ‘70s\, but I confess I wasn’t expecting [Diggin Dirt] to be throwi
ng it down this hard. This group is impossibly tight\, and Zach Alder migh
t be the best soul shouter I’ve ever heard\, and I’ve heard a few.”
Their infectious sound is fueled by blazing horns\, searing guitars and a
relentlessly driving rhythm section\, and tying it all together is the ban
d’s frontman who launches the ensemble into rarefied air with his pipes\
, charisma and natural-born soul. With flashes of James Brown or Sly and t
he Family Stone\, Otis Redding or Tower of Power\, the band’s sound is b
oth familiar and yet refreshingly original\, layering psychedelic rock\, M
otown soul\, afrobeat and even reggae atop a thick foundation of late-60s
 inspired funk.

DESCRIPTION:Ben Flocks is a saxophonist and storyteller with a clear\, war
m\, and purposeful voice. A veteran performer and educator\, Flocks has be
en lucky to play with luminaries in jazz and beyond\, including Dave Brube
ck\, Patrice Rushen\, Antonio Sanchez\, and Jumaane Smith. His 2019 releas
e Mask of the Muse features Flocks’ rendition of “Ebb Tide” which ha
s been streamed more than twenty million times and went viral on TikTok.\n
\nGrowing up in the Santa Cruz mountains\, Flocks witnessed lunar grandeur
over the churning Pacific surf and filtered through redwood canopies. Fol
lowing the advice of his elders\, he spent over a decade living in New Yor
k City\, learning from the masters and leading his own bands at the 55 Bar
and Cornelia Street Cafe. Flocks is now grounded in Los Angeles where he
balances performing with a full schedule teaching at Glendale Community Co
llege\, Harvard-Westlake\, and the Los Angeles County High School for the
Arts.\n\nAt its foundation\, his latest album Moonshades is a trio explora
tion\, acutely aware of the history of saxophone triumvirates led by Flock
s’ heroes Sonny Rollins\, Joe Henderson\, and Joshua Redman\, but concer
ned with an entirely different avenue\, thanks to bandmates Garret Lang an
d Jay Bellerose. While those trios often relished dexterity and unrelentin
g momentum\, Flocks and his compatriots linger in the openness and unhurri
ed propulsion that comes so naturally to them. For Flocks\, the moon is a
powerful reminder of the unknowable and the spirit of searching.\n\nFlocks
will be joined by Garret Lang on bass and Jay Bellerose on drums for this
special hometown album release performance.\n\nBen Flocks Website\n\n(Tic

DESCRIPTION:Throughout their storied forty-three-year history\, the Yellow
jackets have recorded twenty-six albums\, received sixteen GRAMMY nominati
ons (winning two)\, performed countless sold-out tours\, and enjoyed world
wide critical acclaim and commercial success.\n\nThe Yellowjackets formed
in the late 1970s as the backup band for guitarist Robben Ford. They recor
ded their first album together in 1980. Since then\, and with the addition
of Bob Mintzer\, the Yellowjackets have gained and maintained prominence
as one of jazz’s most influential and loved groups.\n\nOver the years th
e band has undergone numerous lineup changes. Never failing to rise to the
inevitable challenges of adjustment\, the Yellowjackets – featuring Rus
sell Ferrante on piano and synthesizers\, Bob Mintzer on woodwinds & elect
ronic wind instrument\, Will Kennedy on drums and Dane Alderson on bass
 – have maintained an extraordinarily high quality of musicianship that i
s the rival of many but a surprise to no one who knows and appreciates the
  band and their music. \n\nYellowjackets Website\n\n(Ticket Includes 5% C

DESCRIPTION:“Well at least nobody could ever accuse us of releasing too
much music!” quips guitarist Greg Carmichael on the release of their lat
est EP The Empire of Lights\, “but I think our fans know by now that we
’re a little obsessive about only releasing music when we have something
ready that we really love.”\n\nThe four tracks on their latest release
visit familiar themes for longtime fans\, from the western shuffle of “8
\,000 Miles” to the reggae flavours of “Alisio”\, the upbeat joy of
“Back to Back” to the laid back groove of “Other People”. “We ho
pe there’s something here for everyone\,” says Miles Gilderdale\, “w
e’re very lucky that over the years we’ve found fans that just get wha
t we’re doing\, so we can wear our influences on our sleeves and not hav
e to try and fit into any one style.”\n\nWith over thirty five years of
recording and touring\, the band’s longevity may be due in part to that
spirit of never trying to fit in\, but to just make music that they love\,
“I feel really grateful that we’ve been on such a long journey with o
ur fans and they’re still there with us.” Carmichael says\, “We talk
after shows and it’s always such an honor to hear the stories of how ou
r music has been the soundtrack to so many people’s lives”\n\nAcoustic

Satori Arts for InterAct\, a FREE open mic night\, from 7-9 pm\, featuring
readings from editor and contributors of Magpie On the Gallows anthology
. \nMagpie on the Gallows: Poems on the Art of Bosch and Bruegel collects
famous and newly minted poems on the art of Hieronymus Bosch and Pieter Br
uegel the Elder. These painters from the Northern Renaissance are startlin
gly relevant today\, with their critiques of authorities\, exposure of chu
rch hypocrisies\, and assault on holier-than-thou judgments. Though the ar
tworks were created in the 1500s — featuring surrealistic scenes from dr
eams and nightmares\, illustrations of ancient proverbs\, and close examin
ation of natural landscapes and peasant life — they still mesmerize. \nC
