To understand people\, Steinbeck insisted\, you must appreciate the envi ronments they inhabit: the local trees and flowers\, soil and rocks\, inve rtebrates and frogs. Always in Steinbeck’s books natural and cultural hi stories overlap with an animating spirit of place. \nSteinbeck’s Landsca pes is the first major work to focus on Steinbeck as a predominantly envir onmental writer. Her first full-length collection\, Strange Gift\, was published in April 2026.
