 n Art Gallery is pleased to present the 2026 Pictorial Arts Faculty Exhibi
 tion\, featuring new work by Irene Carvajal\, Lexygius Sanchez Calip\, Don
 ald Feasel\, Carla Fisher Schwartz\, Erik Friedman\, Mary Morse\, Raphael 
 Noz\, and Shaun Odell.\n\nThis exhibition offers a snapshot of the vibrant
  creative practices of the Pictorial Arts faculty\, bringing together arti
 sts whose work spans painting\, drawing\, printmaking\, mixed media\, and 
 interdisciplinary approaches. Although their artistic voices are distinct\
 , the works are united by a sustained engagement with image-making\, mater
 ial exploration\, and the evolving possibilities of contemporary visual pr
 actice. The exhibition invites viewers to consider the many ways artists i
 nvestigate perception\, narrative\, abstraction\, and the expressive poten
 tial of pictorial form.\n\nBeyond the classroom\, these faculty members ma
 intain active exhibition records and professional practices that contribut
 e to the broader cultural landscape. Their work has been presented in regi
 onal\, national\, and international exhibitions and is represented in muse
 um\, corporate\, and private collections. Collectively\, they have earned 
 grants\, fellowships\, residencies\, and numerous honors that reflect the 
 depth and impact of their artistic contributions.\n\nThe exhibition celebr
 ates not only individual achievement but also the exchange of ideas that e
 nriches the Pictorial Arts program. Through their ongoing studio practices
  and commitment to teaching\, these artists create a dynamic environment w
 here creative research and education continually inform one another.\n\n \

DESCRIPTION:Visit the Center for Steinbeck Studies\, MLK Library 5th Floor
 \, for a reading by SJSU Lecturer Emerita Sally Ashton\, in conversation w
 ith Prof. Daniel Rivers\, from her new book Going to the Moon\, published 
 by Duke University Press.\n\nIn 2022\, poet Sally Ashton learned that one 
 of her poems would be included in a time capsule to be sent to the Moon vi
 a Astrobotic’s 2024 Griffin/VIPER as part of the Lunar Codex project. Fo
 r her\, this event seemed like the high point in a life spent chasing the 
 Moon\, from a childhood inspired by the space race of the 1960s to an adul
 thood spent in contemplation and conversation with the sky. In Going to th
 e Moon\, Ashton marvels at the Moon’s powerful influence since the dawn 
 of humanity—how we have\, in our own ways\, gone to the Moon\, and what 
 we have found. Contemplating lunar settlement in the light of history\, cu
 lture\, the rise of the space industry\, and geopolitical conflict\, Ashto
 n shares her sense of wonder at the simple beauty of our unchanged Moon an
 d reveals what is at stake in our contemporary attempts to colonize it.\n\
 nThis event is free and open to the public.
