DESCRIPTION:Type: Workshop\nHosted by: SJSU Writing Center\nDuration: 60 m
inutes\nAvailable Spaces: 40\n\nIntroductions are critical aspects of a pa
per because their contents and quality can compel a reader to either read
or pass over an academic paper and open or close a reader's mind to the co
ntents within it. An introduction influences the way a reader will underst
and a paper's contents by hinting at a paper’s purpose and content\, pro
viding context for understanding the writer’s train of thought\, and est
ablishing relationships between ideas that are forthcoming. A strong intro
duction will pique a reader's interest and make them eager to read your pa
per. This workshop will offer techniques for writing and revising compelli
 ng introductions.\n\nZOOM REGISTRATION REQUIRED

DESCRIPTION:An acclaimed weekly lecture series brings in artists\, designe
rs\, and critical theorists from around the world\, broadening the student
s’ experiential base and complementing local offerings. All lectures and
exhibitions are open to the general public free of charge. Unless otherwi
se indicated\, all events are in person on Tuesday evenings from 5-6pm\, S
JSU Art Building #133.\n\nGinger Shulick Porcella: The Role of Museums in
the Age of AI\n\nNow more than ever\, audiences are seeking authentic expe
riences and a sense of community and belonging in our increasingly digital
world. Museums as informal sites of learning are uniquely positioned to a
ddress this need. From presenting awe-inspiring exhibitions and programmin
g\, to providing opportunities to engage in visual literacy in our era of
fake news\, museums fill a critical role—despite the overall decrease in
federal\, state\, and local funding. How can museums navigate this ever-c
hanging world\, continue to do more with less\, and fulfill their missions
in new and unexpected ways?\n\nGinger Shulick Porcella is a visionary art
s leader\, curator\, and nonprofit executive. Currently serving as the Exe
cutive Director of the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History (the MAH)\, Porc
ella oversees exhibitions\, community programs\, and the museum’s broade
r mission of connecting art\, history\, and local communities. She is know
n as a transformational arts leader with a somewhat unconventional approac
h\, embracing a “punk” ethos as she helps organizations acknowledge th
eir past and create a roadmap to collectively move forward through radical
listening\, calculated risk-taking\, and cultivating “unexpected audien
 ces”.
