sco was still a very young city composed of many diverse immigrant communi
ties. Throughout the Band’s history we have partnered with many organiza
tions and featured themed concerts that celebrate the various cultures tha
t are part of San Francisco. In this way cultural traditions are shared pu
blicly for the whole community to enjoy. We are part of the proud heritage
of San Francisco as a city of inclusivity that celebrates the heritage an

DESCRIPTION:Maren Hassinger: Living Moving Growing will be the most signi
ficant retrospective of the work of Maren Hassinger to date\, presenting h
er work across sculpture\, performance\, video\, and installation from the
early 1970s to the present. Hassinger’s work addresses social and cultu
ral issues through an awareness of interconnectedness\, ephemerality\, and
relationships between humans and the natural world. These themes emphasiz
e the importance of caring for the things we share in contrast to the thin
gs that divide us. The exhibition will survey Hassinger’s expansive care

DESCRIPTION:Mildred Howard: Poetics of Memory is the first major museum ex
hibition to celebrate the work of the beloved Bay Area artist. Spanning Ho
ward’s five-decade practice\, the exhibition brings together her renowne
d collages\, found-object sculptures and immersive installations exploring
memory\, identity and the African American experience. \nNew and never-be
fore-seen pieces appear alongside archival materials from Howard’s Oakla
nd studio\, illuminating the cultural currents and lived experiences that
shape her practice. Born in San Francisco and raised in Berkeley\, Howard
has drawn on textiles\, African Diasporic dance\, personal history and col
lective memory throughout her career. \nHer monumental public artworks acr
oss the Bay Area have highlighted often-overlooked histories\, from the Bl
ack shipworkers of Hunters Point to the musicians who defined San Francisc
o jazz. Poetics of Memory invites visitors to consider how personal memory
and collective history intertwine. \n(Check organizer/venue website to co

DESCRIPTION:Out of Line Art at the Edge Bruce NaumanBruce Nauman\, Dance o
r Exercise on the Perimeter of a Square (Square Dance)\, 1967–68. Black-
 and-white video with sound\, transferred from 16 mm film\, 8:24 min. Court
esy of Electronic Arts Intermix (EAI)\, New York. © 2026 Bruce Nauman / A
rtists Rights Society (ARS)\, New York. \nWhat happens when the artist’s
studio spills out into the world? And when the world necessarily makes it
s way into the studio? In the 1960s\, ’70s\, and ’80s\, as political a
nd cultural upheavals reverberated across the country\, artists at UC Davi
 s navigated these questions. \nBruce Nauman (M. A. ’66) taped a square o
n the ground of his studio and filmed himself walking around the perimeter
during the winter of 1967–68. \nThis exhibition takes his square as a f
ormal provocation to investigate the boundaries of the artist studio\, spe
cifically drawing on Nauman’s deployment of the perimeter as a site of a
ctivity. Mike Henderson\, Ester Hernandez\, Malaquías Montoya\, Bruce Nau
man\, Nancy Rubins\, Dorothy Wiley and the student artists of UC Davis’
Third World Forum engage with film\, print and performance—cheap\, acces
sible mediums that allowed for experimentation\, iteration and easy dissem
ination. Through these frameworks\, Out of Line challenges the arbitrary l
ine that declares certain practices “artistic” and others “political
.” Curated by Ginny Duncan\, assistant curator\, and Grace Xiao\, curato
rial assistant. \n(Check organizer/venue website to confirm event details.

DESCRIPTION:DWIGHT ESCHLIMAN | Excerpts from the One Day Project\nMichelle
Thomas Fine Art Gallery + Studio invites you to ONE DAY by photographer D
wight Eschliman\, on view now\, with an exhibition reception on Friday\, O
 ctober 23\, 5–7 pm. \nEschliman’s latest project catalogs time.\nEach
day consists of 24 hours. Each hour\, 60 minutes. Each minute\, 60 seconds
. For each execution\, the artist photographs one static point in the sky
every second for 24 consecutive hours. Each of these 86\,400 photographs t
hen becomes a pixel in a larger composition. \nThe finished pieces are pro
duced in sizes from 18 to 72 inches and include one-hour and 24-hour time
spans. The project includes over 100 editioned pieces from four continents
. \nEschliman’s depiction of each second of a day at once abstracts and
reinterprets it\, offering a fresh perspective on place and the passage of
time. \nThe ONE DAY project has appeared in the American Photography AP40
contest and the Communication Arts 2024 Interactive Annual. It will appea
r in American Photography AP42 later this year. Works from the collection
are held in private and institutional collections\, most notably at the MD
Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. \nOn view through November 2\, 2026.\n
Dwight Eschliman has been working out of his studio in San Francisco’s S
OMA neighborhood for the last twenty years. His work is rooted in his fasc
ination with the familiar. He dissects and explores ordinary objects in ex
traordinary detail\, his passion for close examination earning him a reput
ation as a master of capturing beauty hidden within the mundane. His work
has appeared in The New York Times Magazine\, National Geographic\, WIRED
and in campaigns for Absolut\, Apple\, Audi\, and other companies whose na
mes do not begin with the letter “A.” \nCalendar – Bernal Heights an

\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe American Indian Cultural District (AICD)\, with suppor
t from Fort Mason Center For Arts & Culture (FMCAC)\, presents new mural c
ommissions by artists Brittany Burrows and Jewelina Acosta. Depicting vege
tation and wildlife from the land and water\, the artists highlight the im
portance of Indigenous knowledge and traditional practices in maintaining
ecological balance and human well-being. By recognizing the interconnected
ness of all life forms and the importance of preserving biodiversity\, the
ir work points to a more harmonious and sustainable future for generations
to come. \n\n\n\nIn We are the Land: Between Earth & Sky\, Brittany Burr
ows highlights the parallels between endangered butterfly species and the
struggles of Indigenous communities. Both are deeply connected to the land
and face threats to their survival due to various factors\, including hab
itat loss\, environmental degradation\, and cultural assimilation. \n\n\n\
n“Land stewardship and sovereignty are indeed crucial for preserving Ind
igenous ways of life and ensuring the continued thriving of both human and
non-human communities. By respecting Indigenous rights to their ancestral

elina Acosta is from a small non-federally recognized tribe named Yokaia
(the deep valley) from which the name Ukiah\, CA originated. She is the ow
ner of Inkdigenous Tattoo\, which brings forward and makes room for her tr

\n\n\n\nEchoing the historic track inside FMCAC’s campus\, the railroad-

s and arcs for visitors to sit or walk through. Tied / Untied is abstract
but looks vaguely familiar\, possibly referencing its surroundings throug

50 Years\, Indigenous Futures Presented By Haines Gallery\n\n\n\nAs the U.
 S. marks its 250th anniversary\, Haines Gallery presents 250 Years\, Indi
genous Futures\, a group exhibition centering the work of leading Native A
merican artists. While occasioned by this anniversary\, 250 Years\, Indig
enous Futures does not commemorate it.  \n\n\n\n\n\nABOVE: Haines Galler

 isco. Photo: Shaun Roberts\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEVENT DETAILS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\
n250 Years\, Indigenous Futures takes its title from the writings of Stand
ing Rock Sioux historian Philip J. Deloria and his colleagues\, who argue
that Native peoples should be understood not primarily through the past\,
but “through the lens of futurity.” Indigenous knowledge\, they write\
, is not peripheral to contemporary life but generative of new ways of und
erstanding it. In this spirit\, the exhibition considers Native presence a
nd creativity as powerful forces shaping our collective future. \n\n\n\nTh
e artists in the exhibition are: Victoria Grace Canby (Diné [Navaho])\;Jo
rdan Ann Craig (Northern Cheyenne)\; Sky Hopinka (Ho-Chunk Nation / Pechan
ga Band of Luiseño Indians)\; Brad Kahlhamer (Indigenous ancestry)\; Terr
an Last Gun (Piikani / Blackfoot)\; Jamie Okuma (Luiseño\, Shoshone-Banno
ck\, Wailaki\, Okinawan\, and La Jolla)\; Wendy Red Star (Apsáalooke [Cro
w])\; and Keith Secola (Northern Ute / Anishinaabe). Working across paint
 ing\, drawing\, sculpture\, film\, and photography\, these artists engage
contemporary culture\, Nation-specific visual traditions\, and personal hi
stories in distinct and expansive ways. \n\n\n\n\n\nRather than commemorat
ing the 250th U.S. anniversary\, the exhibition recognizes 1776 as only on
e moment within much longer histories of Indigenous presence\, adaptation\
, and sovereignty. Creating space for artists to define their own terms of
engagement\, the exhibition aims to bring forward concerns central to the
ir practices. The works on view draw inspiration from a vivid range of sou
rces: boldly painted Piikani lodges\; the precise geometry of Northern Che
yenne beadwork\; the Indians of All Tribes’ occupation of Alcatraz\; car
s adorned with blankets and regalia for the annual Crow Fair\; blood-soake
d horror films\; and archival photographs whose subjects meet the visitor
’s gaze. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition is informed by Apsáalooke artist Wendy
Red Star’s caution against a “foe-based” framing of Native art –
one that risks tethering meaning to resistance alone and obscuring the s
pecificity of Nations\, histories\, and individual practices. Here\, each
artist’s work emerges from particular relationships to language\, land\,
and material culture. No single framework can contain these worlds. \n\n\
 n\n\n\n\nAbout the Artists\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVictoria Grace Canby (Diné\, b. 1
 978\, Albuquerque\, NM). Marin-based artist Victoria Grace Canby’s new w
orks on paper\, created for the exhibition\, depict the Three Sisters –
  corn\, beans\, and squash – as a living model of resilience\, healing
\, and collective care that connects Indigenous Peoples throughout the Ame
ricas. “Through fostering our connection to these plants’ powers\,”
Canby notes\, “we can overcome the impacts of colonization.” \n\n\n\nJ
ordan Ann Craig (Northern Cheyenne\, b. 1992\, San Jose\, CA). Jordan Ann
Craig’s paintings draw from references ranging from Northern Cheyenne be
adwork and quillwork to the postwar abstraction of Agnes Martin\, all of w
hich she translates into exacting\, poetic fields of color and form. In wo
rks such as “Miss Your Musk” (2024)\, Craig foregrounds Indigenous abs
traction as a living and evolving practice – one capable of holding per
sonal narrative\, formal experimentation\, and cultural continuity without
being reduced to any single source or meaning. \n\n\n\nSky Hopinka (Ho-Ch
 unk Nation/Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians\; b. 1984\, Ferndale\, WA). S
ky Hopinka’s film Sunflower Siege Engine (2022) brings together distinct
Indigenous sites and histories\, connecting the Indians of All Tribes’
occupation of nearby Alcatraz Island (1969–1971) with Illinois’ Cahoki
a Mounds\, one of the largest pre-contact urban centers in North America a
nd a site from which ancestral remains continue to be repatriated. \n\n\n\
nBrad Kahlhamer (Native American ancestry\; b. 1956\, Tucson\, AZ). Painte
 d in acrylic\, ink\, and pencil on a bedsheet\, “Pima Air + Space” (20
 25) belongs to Kahlhamer’s recent “dream sheet” paintings. Its title
  recalls Arizona’s Pima Air & Space Museum\, while birds\, horses\, mask
ed figures\, and a spectral presence drift through an aurora borealis of s
aturated color. \n\n\n\n\n\nTerran Last Gun\, Saakwaynaamah’kaa (Last Gu
 n) (Piikani / Blackfoot\; b. 1989\, Browning\, MT on the Blackfeet Nation
Reservation). Inspired by the bold geometric designs of Piikani painted lo
dges\, Terran Last Gun has created a suite of works for the exhibition: pr
ecise compositions on vintage ledger paper that bring ancestral forms\, co
lonial records\, and the ongoing vitality of Indigenous abstraction into c
 harged relation. \n\n\n\nJamie Okuma (Luiseño\, Shoshone-Bannock\, Wailak
 i\, Okinawan\, and La Jolla\; b. 1977\, Glendale\, CA). In “Of Love and
Sacrifice: Motherhood” (2026)\, Jamie Okuma deploys her signature single
-stitch beadwork to transform a brain-tanned deerskin handbag into a dazzl
ing portrayal of two figures from Luca Guadagnino’s horror film Suspiria
(2018). Drawing bracing cinematic imagery into dialogue with exacting Pay
ómkawichum (Luiseño) beadwork techniques\, Okuma conjures the selfless a
 nd steadfast power of maternal love. \n\n\n\nWendy Red Star (Apsáalooke\;
  b. 1981\, Billings\, MT). Wendy Red Star’s works from “The (HUD)” s
eries focus on the colorful facades of houses built through the U.S. Depar
tment of Housing and Urban Development on Montana’s Apsáalooke (Crow) r
eservation\, where the artist was raised. Though their hues were chosen no
t by residents but by a government agency\, Red Star’s images reveal sig
ns of domestic beauty that exceed the mandates of bureaucracy. \n\n\n\nKei
th Secola (Northern Ute / Anishinaabe\; b. 1988\, Randlett\, UT on the Uin
tah and Ouray Reservation) Keith Secola screen-prints archival portraits o
f Native Americans onto the covers of vintage books\, placing Indigenous p
resence in direct tension with exclusionary narratives of America’s past
. Secola’s images depict subjects who often look directly back at the ca
mera\, meeting its gaze with a quiet intensity that transcends time and ne
gates erasure. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWendy Red Star: “Chiaxxúapilake (Fifty

diate \nAndrew Mamo\, Professor of Law\, University of Cincinnati\, Don
ald P. Klekamp College of Law \nVia Zoom \nRSVP HERE \nCollaborative confl
ict resolution processes aren’t always possible\, especially in bureaucr
acies where communication is limited. When all else fails\, rejected parti
es can still make progress: Andrew Mamo introduced a theory of “counter-
design\,” where parties challenge and reimagine dispute resolution syste
ms through activities like unveiling\, tagging\, and assembling. An exampl
e is Dan Berstein’s work convincing dispute resolution organizations to
update policies that were stigmatizing mental illness. This workshop uses
Dan’s stories as counter-design case studies. Participants will receive
tools they can use right away to [1] create better systems so there is no
need for counter-design\, and [2] apply counter-design strategies when stu
ck in a system that is not working. \n  \nAndrew Mamo\nAndrew Mamo is a p
rofessor of law at the University of Cincinnati Donald P. Klekamp College
of Law. His research concerns the history and theory of dispute resolution
and negotiation\, with an emphasis on the history of dispute resolution p
ractices\, the role of technology in dispute resolution\, and the professi
onalization of dispute resolution. His current projects include a study of
the institutionalization of dispute resolution services in the late twent
ieth century. Mamo received his SB in physics from the Massachusetts Insti
tute of Technology\, his PhD in history from the University of California\
, Berkeley\, and his JD from Harvard Law School. After graduating from law
school\, Mamo clerked for Judge Hisashi Owada and Judge Julia Sebutinde o
f the International Court of Justice in The Hague. He then worked on cross
-border capital markets and project finance transactions at a major intern
ational law firm in Singapore. Mamo joined Harvard Law School as Lecturer
in Law and a Clinical Instructor at the Harvard Negotiation and Mediation
Clinical Program\, teaching negotiation and supervising teams of clinical
students representing clients on a range of dispute systems design project
 s. Prior to joining the College of Law\, he was an Assistant Professor of
Law at Northern Illinois University College of Law. \n  \nDan Berstein\nD
an Berstein is a mediator living with bipolar disorder\, working to adapt
conflict resolution best practices to promote empowering mental health com
munication and prevent mental illness discrimination. Since 2012\, Dan’s
  company\, MH Mediate\, has helped professionals\, organizations\, and gov
ernment agencies address challenging behaviors without discriminating agai
nst people who have mental health conditions. MH Mediate provides free res
ources to help different stakeholders use conflict resolution tools to pre
vent mental illness stigma. They are hosted on the Dispute Resolution In M
ental Health Initiative (DRMH Initiative) website\, originally funded by t
he AAA-ICDR Foundation and developed in partnership with the CUNY Dispute
Resolution Center. MH Mediate’s Mental Health Safe Project (MH Safe) als
o provides free addendum content to parties affected by discriminatory gui
dance about mental illness. Its DisabilityRadar.com website empowers peopl
e to anonymously report problems. Dan leads the Rights\, Ethics\, and Voic
es in Dispute Resolution (REV-DR) project to help parties know their right
s and how to respond to misconduct. Mitchell Hamline School of Law’s DRI
Press recently published a new edition of Dan’s book\, Mental Health an
d Conflicts: A Handbook for Empowerment\, which was originally published b
y the ABA. Dan holds degrees from the Wharton School and the Johns Hopkins
