DESCRIPTION:Togas\, temples\, hydraulic engineering\, winemaking\, and eve
n “Roman” numerals\, all widely credited to the Romans\, were actually
Etruscan innovations. The Etruscans thrived in what is now Italy for almo
st a millennium\, from around 900 to 100 BC\, before the rise of the Roman
Empire. They laid the foundation for present-day architecture\, engineeri
ng\, and artistic achievements. Yet their culture remains overshadowed by
ancient Greece and Rome. Drawing on the latest archaeological discoveries
and cutting-edge scholarship\, this is the most comprehensive exhibition o
n Etruscan culture in the United States to date. \nInfo & Tickets

tions and featured themed concerts that celebrate the various cultures tha
t are part of San Francisco. In this way cultural traditions are shared pu
blicly for the whole community to enjoy. We are part of the proud heritage

er work across sculpture\, performance\, video\, and installation from the
early 1970s to the present. Hassinger’s work addresses social and cultu
ral issues through an awareness of interconnectedness\, ephemerality\, and
relationships between humans and the natural world. These themes emphasiz
e the importance of caring for the things we share in contrast to the thin
gs that divide us. The exhibition will survey Hassinger’s expansive care

DESCRIPTION:Mildred Howard: Poetics of Memory is the first major museum ex
hibition to celebrate the work of the beloved Bay Area artist. Spanning Ho
ward’s five-decade practice\, the exhibition brings together her renowne
d collages\, found-object sculptures and immersive installations exploring
memory\, identity and the African American experience. \nNew and never-be
fore-seen pieces appear alongside archival materials from Howard’s Oakla
nd studio\, illuminating the cultural currents and lived experiences that
shape her practice. Born in San Francisco and raised in Berkeley\, Howard
has drawn on textiles\, African Diasporic dance\, personal history and col
lective memory throughout her career. \nHer monumental public artworks acr
oss the Bay Area have highlighted often-overlooked histories\, from the Bl
ack shipworkers of Hunters Point to the musicians who defined San Francisc
o jazz. Poetics of Memory invites visitors to consider how personal memory
and collective history intertwine. \n(Check organizer/venue website to co

DESCRIPTION:Out of Line Art at the Edge Bruce NaumanBruce Nauman\, Dance o
r Exercise on the Perimeter of a Square (Square Dance)\, 1967–68. Black-
 and-white video with sound\, transferred from 16 mm film\, 8:24 min. Court
esy of Electronic Arts Intermix (EAI)\, New York. © 2026 Bruce Nauman / A
rtists Rights Society (ARS)\, New York. \nWhat happens when the artist’s
studio spills out into the world? And when the world necessarily makes it
s way into the studio? In the 1960s\, ’70s\, and ’80s\, as political a
nd cultural upheavals reverberated across the country\, artists at UC Davi
 s navigated these questions. \nBruce Nauman (M. A. ’66) taped a square o
n the ground of his studio and filmed himself walking around the perimeter
during the winter of 1967–68. \nThis exhibition takes his square as a f
ormal provocation to investigate the boundaries of the artist studio\, spe
cifically drawing on Nauman’s deployment of the perimeter as a site of a
ctivity. Mike Henderson\, Ester Hernandez\, Malaquías Montoya\, Bruce Nau
man\, Nancy Rubins\, Dorothy Wiley and the student artists of UC Davis’
Third World Forum engage with film\, print and performance—cheap\, acces
sible mediums that allowed for experimentation\, iteration and easy dissem
ination. Through these frameworks\, Out of Line challenges the arbitrary l
ine that declares certain practices “artistic” and others “political
.” Curated by Ginny Duncan\, assistant curator\, and Grace Xiao\, curato
rial assistant. \n(Check organizer/venue website to confirm event details.
