By recognizing the interconnected ness of all life forms and the importance of preserving biodiversity\, the ir work points to a more harmonious and sustainable future for generations to come. \n\n\n\nIn We are the Land: Between Earth & Sky\, Brittany Burr ows highlights the parallels between endangered butterfly species and the struggles of Indigenous communities. Both are deeply connected to the land and face threats to their survival due to various factors\, including hab itat loss\, environmental degradation\, and cultural assimilation. \n\n\n\ n“Land stewardship and sovereignty are indeed crucial for preserving Ind igenous ways of life and ensuring the continued thriving of both human and non-human communities. By respecting Indigenous rights to their ancestral lands and supporting their efforts in environmental conservation\, we can learn valuable lessons about sustainable living and holistic interconnect edness\,” said Burrows.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The A rtists\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBrittany Burrows is Nomlaki-Wintun and Pomo\, born in Chico\, CA\, who moved to San Francisco at age 11. From a young age\, B rittany has always been fascinated with art\, mostly ballpoint pen drawing s. Brittany is a self-taught artist who specializes in black-and-white por traits. Her mediums are pencil\, charcoal\, and graphite. \n\n\n\n\n\nJew elina Acosta is from a small non-federally recognized tribe named Yokaia (the deep valley) from which the name Ukiah\, CA originated. She is the ow ner of Inkdigenous Tattoo\, which brings forward and makes room for her tr aditional and cultural lifestyle in the tattoo industry. This striking sculpture helps to define the ent rance to FMCAC\, offering visitors a place to gather\, wonder\, and foster curiosity. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Installation\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nEchoing the historic track inside FMCAC’s campus\, the railroad- tie sculpture lifts dramatically out of the ground\, creating playful loop s and arcs for visitors to sit or walk through. Tied / Untied is abstract but looks vaguely familiar\, possibly referencing its surroundings throug h a nautical knot mid-tie\, or the rolling tides of the bay.
