 scription: The Zhen Xian Bao\, or Chinese Thread Book\, is an historical 
 treasure based on the small books or wallets of the Mao women of Southwest
  China. They would tuck these folded treasures into the pockets of their t
 unics\, always having their sewing supplies of snippets of thread\, needle
 s\, fabrics\, patterns\, small tools and handwork within reach. The Zhen X
 ian Bao may have as many as 17 different compartments\, all folded from pa
 per and covered by either fabric or a stronger paper. You will be introduc
 ed to the basic structure\, making the foundations from two kinds of stron
 g and beautiful Japanese Momigami paper. Embellishments and covers will be
  made from Chiyogami paper or any other special papers you choose. The boo
 k will be cinched closed by Hedi Kyle’s marvelous Belt Closure\, and you
  will be able to embellish and decorate the many different parts of the bo
 ok/wallet to make it truly your own. There are so many layers of pockets a
 nd hidden compartments where you can place photos\, quotes\, sayings\, and

 s will build on the non-model folding techniques introduced by Paul in his
  previous two Non-Model Folding courses for SDBA. Anyone who has completed

 ne who has tried a little origami\, whether from a book or in a class\, wi
 ll also be eligible. If you are an absolute beginner\, this course may not
  be for you. Nevertheless\, if you consider yourself a beginner\, but have
  manipulated paper in relatively complex ways under your own volition\, yo
 u should be OK on the course. \n\n\n\nThe course will revisit some of the 
 techniques and ideas explored on the earlier courses\, but will take them 
 to a more advanced standard. It will also introduce non-orthodox folding t
 echniques\, such as folding with water (yes …water!) to stiffen the pape
 r and crumpling paper\, to make the surface elastic. \n\n\n\nIt is importa
 nt to emphasize that the course will NOT be focused on highly complex fold
 ing techniques\, nor will examples containing excessively long folding seq

  little triangular angles\, but without the usual gluing and measuring. It

 ke a 3” size\, delicate and  precise\, but we are going to also create 
 the big granddaddy of Lotus Boxes\, the very sturdy 6”\, with lid and pe

 roduces several different techniques for generating\, folding and designin
 g this beautiful and endlessly versatile form of relief pleating. It will 
 introduce students to the techniques of generating zig-zag pleats freehand
  (that is\, spontaneously\, without location points)\, and by creating 90-
 degree and 60-degree grids of pre-creased folds from which the zig-zag fol
 ds can be selected. Almost all the surfaces can be collapsed flat\, transf
 orming a sheet into a stick. The transformation is dramatic. \n\n\n\nThe b
 asics of the technique are easy to learn\, but at more advanced levels\, t
 he grids and the making/collapsing of the pleats can be slow and exacting\
 , requiring the manipulation of several folds at the same time. For this r
 eason\, it is recommended that students have some experience of folding pa
 per beyond ‘one-fold’ simple valley/mountain manipulations. Students w
 ill be taken slowly through the basics to thoroughly understand the fundam
 entals\, after which\, we will explore more complex techniques. \n\n\n\nTo
