DESCRIPTION:Artist Talk: Wednesday\, Sept. 23\, 11-12PM H101 (23 Essex Str
 eet)\nClosing Reception: Sat.\, Oct. 3rd\, 12-2PM (301 Cabot Street)\n  \
n“War-birds & adverts dance across my screen – like the birds of parad
ise. \nMechanical marvels of stolen avian secrets. Ailerons and fuselage.
\nTheir hollow bones will be broken and poisoned by beasts created in thei
 r image.” \n

-Campbell McLean \n  \nCampbell McLean explores her queer-American
  experience by creating caricaturist paintings\, objects\, installations\,
and videos. From oil on canvas\, papier-mâché to found object\, McLean
’s unique aesthetic approach shines through in her sporadic ‘make-due
’ energy that flows seamlessly between 2D and 3D forms. The resulting wo
rks are immersive and modular series and installations that read as both s
 pecific and universalizing\, personal and relatable. \n  \nIn War-Birds &
Adverts\, the artist’s installation for the 301 Frame Gallery\, McLean
incorporates themes of patriotism\, camp\, nostalgia\, and caricature as a
generalized and vague criticism of the time and space we are living in no
 w. Campbell’s use of humor and the appropriation of a thinly veiled spec
tacle\, seek to critique a multitude of cultural and contemporary concerns
 \, including\, isolation\, screen time\, self-commodification\, sloganeeri
 ng\, sex\, death\, war\, ‘the art market’. As McLean comments\, “Can
I really not talk about that terrible ‘thing’ at an institutional gal
lery?” How are the birds doing? Didn’t you hear?! It’s all for sale!
  Call my gallerist! 978 495 6697. \n  \nCampbell-Lynn McLean is a Boston-
based artist and a 2022 graduate from the Massachusetts College of Art and
Design (MassArt) BFA program. McLean is currently pursuing her MFA in pai
nting at Boston University\, Class of 2027. She has received numerous awar
ds and scholarships in recognition of her works\, including the Stephen D.
Paine Scholarship in 2021\, the George Nick Award in 2022\, and the Josep
h Ablow Memorial Prize in 2026. Since 2024\, she has presented a solo exhi
bition\, included in three group exhibitions\, and two art fairs with LaiS
 un Keane\, Boston\, MA.

\nFour Voices in Silk presents a vibrant and colorful array of hand-paint
ed silk works by four expert silk artists of Ten Pound Studio\, Gloucester
whose practices are rooted in the preservation and continuation of origin
al silk-painting techniques. \nWorking directly on silk with traditional r
esist and dye methods\, these four artists bring distinct artistic voices
to a richly expressive medium. Together\, these Ten Pound Studio artists f
orm a unique collective in the United States dedicated to practicing and p
reserving the original serti steam-set techniques of hand-painted silk. Th

ship\, and skill in original design and hand-painted silk techniques. \nTh
e exhibition reveals the remarkable versatility of silk as an art form\, f

in Silk is a celebration of both tradition and individual expression. Whi

distinctive visual language and creative perspective to the medium. The r
esult is an exhibition that honors the history of silk painting while demo
nstrating its vitality as a contemporary art form. \nThe Exhibition will b

n Silk invites audiences to experience the beauty of silk not simply as a
 material\, but as a living artistic tradition—where color\, craftsmanshi
p\, technique\, and four individual voices come together.

DESCRIPTION:Reception + Gallery Talk: Sunday\, September 27\, 3-5PM \nSun
day at the Nut House celebrates a brief period in the development of three
artists who came together with the renowned artist Maurice Sendak on Sund
ays in Ridgefield\, Connecticut\, in 2004-7 to draw from the model. They w
ere brought together by Sendak\, who wanted an occasional break from worki
ng long hours in his studio on such projects as the illustrations and sets
for the opera Brundibar. He gave Jonathan Weinberg the task of forming th
e drawing group. \nAt the time\, Weinberg\, who is both a painter and an a
rt historian\, and his husband\, Nick Boshnack\, lived next door to Sendak
in a house Sendak owned. This house\, where these first drawing sessions
took place\, was affectionately known as “the Nut House\,” not because
of the mental capacity of its inhabitants\, but because squirrels frequen
tly dropped acorns on its roof. Weinberg invited Marc McChesney\, a young
local artist whom he had briefly mentored\, to join the group. Marc\, in
turn\, suggested that his best friend\, the illustrator Jamison Odone\, c
ome to draw with them as well. The quartet was augmented by Herman\, Maur
ice Sendak’s enormous and beautiful German shepherd\, who provided emoti
onal support. \nThe paintings\, drawings\, and posters in the exhibition p
rovide a sense not only of what the work of the drawing sessions was like\
, but also an introduction to the art the four artists made in the years b
efore\, during\, and after the Nut House days. \nSunday at the Nut House w
as originally conceived and organized by participating artists Jonathan We
inberg and Jamison Odone in 2025 for the Stephanie Ann Roper Gallery at Fr
ostburg State University. The exhibition’s iteration for the Montserrat
Galleries is organized in collaboration with Lynne Cooney\, Director of Ex
hibitions and Galleries. \nImage: Jonathan Weinberg\, Maurice Sendak Draw

DESCRIPTION:Talking With Voters Across Differences \nHow can we stay open
when a voter says something that makes our hackles rise? How can we listen
without feeling we have to agree? And find “toeholds” that can help a
stuck conversation move somewhere new? \nIt’s tempting to jump in with
facts\, arguments\, or the “perfect” response (which doesn’t exist)
that will change their mind. But what if our job isn’t to change their m
ind? What becomes possible when we let go of that burden—and get curious
instead? And what if a respectful conversation across our differences can
count as success\, too? \nJoin Elizabeth Chur\, author of The Joy of Talk
ing Politics with Strangers and Bay Area Coalition co-founder Susan Bolle
for an exploration of how to engage when the stakes are high and the diff
erences are real. \nThrough stories from the field and practical strategie
s\, we’ll explore how patience\, awareness\, and empathy can help us nav
igate emotionally charged conversations without getting pulled into a powe
r struggle. We’ll leave time to wrestle with your questions and real-lif
e voter dilemmas—and to try out different approaches together. \nWe knoc
k doors and phone bank because elections matter. But how we meet one anoth
er matters\, too. At a time of profound division\, meeting a fellow citize
n with openness and respect can be a quietly radical act—and a way of pr
acticing the democracy we’re working so hard to protect. \nGo to https:/
