They w ere brought together by Sendak\, who wanted an occasional break from worki ng long hours in his studio on such projects as the illustrations and sets for the opera Brundibar. He gave Jonathan Weinberg the task of forming th e drawing group. \nAt the time\, Weinberg\, who is both a painter and an a rt historian\, and his husband\, Nick Boshnack\, lived next door to Sendak in a house Sendak owned. This house\, where these first drawing sessions took place\, was affectionately known as “the Nut House\,” not because of the mental capacity of its inhabitants\, but because squirrels frequen tly dropped acorns on its roof. Weinberg invited Marc McChesney\, a young local artist whom he had briefly mentored\, to join the group. Marc\, in turn\, suggested that his best friend\, the illustrator Jamison Odone\, c ome to draw with them as well. The quartet was augmented by Herman\, Maur ice Sendak’s enormous and beautiful German shepherd\, who provided emoti onal support. \nThe paintings\, drawings\, and posters in the exhibition p rovide a sense not only of what the work of the drawing sessions was like\ , but also an introduction to the art the four artists made in the years b efore\, during\, and after the Nut House days. \nSunday at the Nut House w as originally conceived and organized by participating artists Jonathan We inberg and Jamison Odone in 2025 for the Stephanie Ann Roper Gallery at Fr ostburg State University. Wilbur’s work res hapes how Indigenous Peoples are represented across the United States\, ce ntering contemporary Native identity and celebrating the vibrancy of Indig enous culture today.  \nPlease join CAM docent Maggie Rosa for an engagin g conversation as she reflects on what these photographs reveal—about th e photographer\, about the individuals portrayed\, and about the evolving stories they invite us to understand more deeply.  \nBorn and raised in E ngland\, Maggie Rosa moved to the Chicago in 1968 to work as a resear ch technician at the University of Chicago. During her eight years in Chic ago\, she married Joe and obtained her PhD. The two of them did post-docto ral research at Yale and then moved to Cambridge to join the nascent biote ch world. They eventually built a weekend home in Gloucester. In 2001 they “saw the light” and moved here permanently to participate in this g reat community. Maggie is an active volunteer in local organizations\, mos t recently the City Hall Restoration Commission\, Gloucester Education Fou ndation\, Cape Ann Museum\, and Generous Gardeners. As a Cape Ann Museum d ocent\, she serves as an ambassador for Gloucester by introducing visitors \, especially cruise ship visitors\, to Cape Ann’s history and culture. During her eight years in Chic ago\, she married Joe and obtained her PhD. The two of them did post-docto ral research at Yale and then moved to Cambridge to join the nascent biote ch world. They eventually built a weekend home in Gloucester. In 2001 they “saw the light” and moved here permanently to participate in this g reat community. Maggie is an active volunteer in local organizations\, mos t recently the City Hall Restoration Commission\, Gloucester Education Fou ndation\, Cape Ann Museum\, and Generous Gardeners. As a Cape Ann Museum d ocent\, she serves as an ambassador for Gloucester by introducing visitors \, especially cruise ship visitors\, to Cape Ann’s history and culture. Shure will reflect on his past work with Weems\, the artistic dia logue that emerged between their two cats\, and the meticulous sculptural process behind creating this magnificent piece for CAM’s campus. It is a chance to hear directly from the artist about the history\, craft\, and c haracter embodied in this contemplative feline form. \nUpon graduating fro m college\, owner Robert Shure became an assistant at the traditional scul pture studio of Arcangelo Cascieri and Adio di Biccari. From the early 197 0s through the 1980s\, Shure helped produce many of the public monuments\, sculptures\, memorials\, and restorations completed at the Cascieri-di Bi ccari studio. He became involved in all the specialties of the sculpture s tudio\, including designing monuments and portraits\, creating armatures\, mold-making\, casting in plaster\, creating and replicating architectural ornament\, and conserving and restoring plaster\, stone\, and bronze. As Cascieri and di Biccari gradually retired\, Shure continued the tradition of the sculpture studio. In 1990\, Shure moved the Cascieri-di Biccari stu dio to Woburn\, Massachusetts and renamed it Skylight Studios. It is one o f the largest and most active studios of its type in the country. Robert i s currently creating many significant public and private monuments and scu lptures. He has accumulated over 40 years of hands-on experience in the fi eld of sculpture. His expertise ranges from the design and creation of mon umental sculpture in bronze and granite to the conservation and restoratio n of historical sculpture and architectural ornament.
