DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, September 22\, 12 pm – 2 pm at Pig’s Eye Chôkan
Tanka Park \n\n\n\n\n\n\nDid you know these dragonflies migrate South in
the Fall just like many of our songbirds do? Come see for yourself on Tues
day\, September 22 at Pig’s Eye Chôkan Tanka Park. \nINFORMATION: Drago
nfly expert John Arthur\, from the Minnesota Dragonfly Society\, will lead
us on an adventure tracking the migration and seeing what birds join us a
s we hike through the park. Volunteers from Pig’s Eye Park Friends – T
om Dimond\, Kathy Sidles\, Carissa Scanlan\, and Kiki Sonnen – will help
out too. We know the land’s history and the challenges it still faces.
This land provides critical shelter and habitat for butterflies\, dragonfl
 ies\, coyotes\, otters\, beavers\, deer\, over 100 species of birds\, seve
ral species of turtles and snakes\, toads and frogs – including the enda
ngered Blanchard’s Cricket Frog. Pig’s Eye is a critical resource for
river fish who spawn and live in the main channel of the Mississippi. Pig
’s Eye Lake serves as a nursery for baby river fish who grow up here unt
il they are big enough and old enough to live in the main channel of the R
iver. \nWe will have available loaner binoculars\, a few butterfly nets\,
bird field guides\, and Dragonfly and Damselfly field guides. \nWe will m
eet in the parking lot\, which is about 1/2 mile from the entryway off Pig
s Eye Lake Road. As we gather\, we will have short introductions\, and the
n we will set off on a truck trail to the concrete bridge over Battle Cree
 k. We expect to see the dragonflies following the creek on its southerly r
oute to Pig’s Eye Lake. We may see Kestrels and Kingfishers try to take
down a few of the dragonflies. Other birds we may see are migrating warble
 rs\, Indigo buntings\, goldfinches\, Bald Eagles\,  Killdeer\, Spotted Sa
 ndpipers\, White Pelicans\, Sandhill Cranes\, woodpeckers\, mourning doves
 \, turkeys\, song sparrows\, Great Blue Herons\, blackbirds\, and more. \n
DIRECTIONS: Park address is 2165 Pig’s Eye Lake Road\, St Paul\, MN 5511
 9. We will meet in the park’s parking lot. From I-94\, take the Warner R
oad exit. Watch for brown & white street signs marking the way to Pig’s
Eye Park. From Warner Road turn onto Childs Road. Then turn again onto Pig
’s Eye Lake Road. This happens right by the congregation of blue cement
trucks’ staging area. The park entrance is about a mile south of this po
int. As you turn onto Pig’s Eye Road you will cross a major RR track lin
 e. If you are stopped there because of train traffic\, call or text Kiki a
t (651) 331-9560 to let her know you’re delayed. Sometimes train traffic
only stops you for a few minutes. Sometimes it is 15 minutes or longer. W
e will wait for you. Continue on Pig’s Eye Lake Road. Go past the Wood C
hipper. Then you will see the Park Welcoming sign. Turn into the park and
follow the dirt road until you reach the parking lot. \n\n\n\nREGISTRATION
: None \nACCESSIBILITY: The walk may be 1 to 1 1/2 mile hike on dirt truck
trail or mowed pathway. Gentle rolling elevation. Paths may be muddy or r
utted. Off – trail you may encounter thick and tangly grasses \, with un
seen burrows or pot holes. Nearest porta-potty is at the adjoining Wood Ch
ipper work site. \nLEADERS: John Arthur\, of the Minnesota Dragonfly Socie

DESCRIPTION:Join Silvae Spiritus Nature & Forest Therapy\, certified by th
e Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides and Programs\, for a gui
ded forest bathing experience!  \nForest bathing is a slow-moving\, deepl
y sensory\, mindful and “bodyful” walk in nature that has shown to res
ult in measurable physiological\, cognitive\, and emotional benefits. Much
like walking meditation or yoga\, these activities can be practiced on on
e’s own\, almost anywhere\, and yet the benefits greatly increase wit
h regular practice. Forest bathing is significantly more immersive when f
acilitated by properly trained and certified guides—you’ll be guid
ed by an expert through this program!   \nOver the course of this walk\,
you will be given a series of invitations and suggested ways to connect t
o your natural surroundings. This experience will be mostly silent\, honor
s each participant’s personal space\, and covers just about 1.5 miles
over generally flat surfaces.  \nAt the end of each invitation\, the grou
p will have an opportunity to share a few words of reflection\, integratin
g the experience both internally and within community. The walk concludes
  with tea and light snacks.
