Juried Exhibition. The call to artists both nationally and int ernationally is free of charge and results in hundreds of submissions each year. Selected work is on view at the gallery each summer\, and a number of pieces are then purchased to become part of the collection. The curator ial aim of the collection is to gather work in a wide variety of photograp hic processes that reflect contemporary practices. The mission behind the project is to directly support photographers through the purchase of the w ork with the end-goal of donating the collection to an institution’s per manent collection. The work is informed by conversations with aquatic ecologist Dr. Paul Bukaveckas (VCU School of Life Sciences and Sustainability) and reve als the drastic fluctuations of dissolved oxygen levels in the river due t o harmful algal blooms.
