DESCRIPTION:Designed for educational researchers\, this workshop guides le
arners through conducting human subjects research with AI tools. You will
learn how to navigate student data privacy laws (such as FERPA and COPPA)\
, align with the NC AI Framework\, and manage classroom data responsibly.
The session covers how to describe AI technologies in your IRB application
\, meet ethical standards\, and select the correct IRB review category for
  ed-tech projects—such as AI tutoring\, assessment\, translation\, or ac
cessibility tools. Attendees must have a basic understanding of standard I
RB procedures\, FERPA\, and secondary data. \n\n To foster an engaging env
ironment and protect real-time discussions\, this live workshop will not b
e recorded. Learners are asked to join on time\, keep webcams on\, and rem
ain fully present and engaged throughout the workshop. The use of AI recor
ding assistants\, transcription tools\, or external recording software is
strictly prohibited. Attendees utilizing these tools will be immediately r
emoved from the workshop. Thank you for your cooperation in maintaining an
interactive learning space.\n\n \n\n Workshop Prerequisite & Eligibility:
Students—including graduate students who hold faculty or staff roles—
must successfully complete IRB Basics Part 1 or obtain instructor permissi
on to enroll. REPORTER will not allow students to register for this worksh
op unless they have either already completed IRB Basics: Part 1\, have an
active registration for a IRB Basics Part 1 instance that will take place
before the Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the IRB (Educational Research
section) workshop\, or have instructor permission to enroll. Non-student f
aculty and staff are exempt from the training prerequisite.\n\n To request
  a prerequisite waiver\, email IRB-Coordinator-Ed@ncsu.edu detailing your
experience with IRB applications and review processes as well as your unde
rstanding of the differences between exempt and non-exempt studies. Please
note: Completing the CITI Human Subjects Research Basic course or a gradu
ate-level research methods course does not qualify for a prerequisite waiv
er.\n\n \n\n Recommended Prerequisites: IRB Basics Part 2 and Secondary Da
ta and the IRB if FERPA data is involved\n\n \n\n Fall 2026 Dates and Time

DESCRIPTION:This course will be held online only over 3 days (September 14
\, 16\, and 18). Attendance is required as it will not be recorded.\n\nThi
s 6-hour course provides training on how AI can assist a survey project fr
om beginning to the end.\n\nWe will focus on each step of the research pro
cess (Callegaro and Yang\, 2025)\n\nPlanningExecutionActivationIn the plan
ning phase there are two sub phases\n1) Ideate and define\n\nAI can be an
idea helper and assist on generating research ideas starting from previous
ly knowledgeA literature review can definitely be assisted by AI and there
are specific tools available for that2) Design and plan\n\nThe design sta
ge is where AI can assist in producing design brief\, analysis plan and ma
p the concepts that are going to be measured using the questionnaireThe ex
ecution phase consists of\n3) Data wizard\n\nHere AI has been used to help
drafting and pretesting the questionnaire\, help writing survey material
such as survey invitation and confidentiality assurances.4) Analysis copil
ot\n\nOnce the data collection is under way\, AI can assist in automating\
, and writing statistical code to analyze the dataset (stat code assistant
). It can also be used as theme discovery\, for coding of open ended answ
ers and data visualization. The activation phase consists of:\n5) Insight p
artner\n\nHelp summarize findings\, generate reports\, help review the fin
al deliverables such as a research report or a complete academic paper6) S
 torytelling aid\n\nDevelop presentation materials\, create multi-media art
ifacts\, generated blog post for different platforms\, generate images bas
ed on content from the researchOrganizational Structure of the Course \nTh
e course will be taught in a workshop style where the lectures will be usi
ng presentation slides as a roadmap. After each concept has been introduce
d and discussed\, the participants will be invited to work on brief hands
on exercises with different LLMs such as Gemini\, Claude\, Copilot\, and C
hatGPT\n\nParticipants will be strongly encouraged to ask questions during
lectures\, especially on how the content relates to their own research.\n
 \nLearning objectives\nBy the end of the course\, you will:\n\nLearn how t
o prompt LLMs for survey research help and assistanceLearn how to evaluate
the quality of LLMs outputsStrengths and challenges of different LLMs too
lsWhere LLMs are not necessaryEthical usage of LLMs/AI ToolsRecent debate
of using LLMs to produce research and write academic papersRegistration an
d fee (refundable for UNCCH students) are required for Zoom link access.

DESCRIPTION:NC State's AI Hub for Science invites you to a hands-on worksh
op which introduces a disciplined approach to software development with AI
coding agents. Participants will learn how to move beyond “vibe coding
” by using AI throughout a structured development lifecycle: brainstormi
ng and refining requirements\, creating durable specifications\, planning
work in small testable increments\, directing and monitoring coding agents
\, and verifying their output through testing\, review and adversarial ana
lysis. \n\nParticipants will not only learn to generate code faster\, but
to specify intent\, manage context and constraints\, evaluate evidence\, a
nd retain human ownership of architecture\, risk and the final decision to
accept software. The workshop also presents agent skills\, showing how re
usable instructions and workflows can extend and customize an agent’s ca
 pabilities.
