DESCRIPTION:This course explores the potential applications of generative 
 AI (gen AI) for survey research. Designed for survey practitioners\, data 
 scientists\, and social scientists\, it provides an introduction to Gen AI
  – especially large language models (LLMs) – and delves into their app
 lications across the survey lifecycle. Participants will gain foundational
  knowledge of how AI technologies like LLMs work\, understand its implicat
 ions for survey data quality (in relation to frameworks such as Total Surv
 ey Error)\, and learn practical strategies for integrating GenAI into surv
 ey design\, data collection\, and analysis. Rather than focusing on the te
 chnical aspects of LLMs\, this course will focus on applied AI research\, 
 drawing on empirical evidence of how LLMs perform in areas such as convers
 ational interviewing and synthetic response generation. We will pay partic
 ular attention to model evaluation\, responsible management of risks\, use
 r experience design (UXD)\, and the augmentation (not replacement) of huma
 n expertise.\n\nRegistration and fee are required for Zoom link access.\n\

 s a series of virtual meetings organized by the University Libraries and t
 he Odum Institute that provides support to students\, faculty and staff wh
 o are learning the R programming language. The first week\, the instructor
 s will introduce attendees to R\, help them install the software\, and sha
 re the materials that will be covered in subsequent meetings. In the follo
 wing weeks\, beginR attendees will learn R by following the lessons on the
  R Open Labs website at their own pace. Each week\, staff will be availabl
 e via Zoom to answer questions\, solve problems and provide the solutions

 lerate Your Research with the Zooniverse: Quickly and Accurately Analyze I
 nformation with a Crowd." Caren Cooper\, an NC State professor of public s
 cience and co-director of the Citizen Science Campus\, will help participa
 nts distinguish between research questions that can be advanced through co
 nventional methods and those that can be advanced with Zooniverse\, and th
 en walk attendees through the process of building a project on the Zoonive
 rse platform. Cooper will cover how to upload data\, create volunteer work
 flows\, set rules for consensus levels\, and feed results from one workflo
 w into more refined workflows. She will also discuss NC State's Citizen Sc
 ience Campus and opportunities to pilot test new projects through a Projec
 t Incubator. \n\nDo you acquire more data than you're equipped to analyze?
  Could you build better AI models if you had more human annotations? Can y
 ou imagine new research questions to answer if you had hundreds or thousan
 ds of people helping annotate data? A major challenge with using sensors a
 nd remote technologies to acquire data is dealing with the flood of inform
 ation. With aerial imagery and camera trap photos\, researchers often face
  a bottleneck in processing data rather than in acquiring it. Computers an
 d AI can help\, but a core need that remains is the human ability of patte
 rn recognition. The Zooniverse platform enables researchers to accomplish 
 what would otherwise not be possible or practical.\n\nNote: Participants a

DESCRIPTION:NC State Innovation and Entrepreneurship has developed an incu
 bator program to support early-stage startups! During the incubator\, stud
 ents will work on furthering their concepts through a variety of fundament
 al practices like doing customer discovery\, exploring business modeling a
 nd thinking through commercialization strategy. This friendly\, low-stakes
  and informal cohort is the perfect place to bounce ideas off one another 
 as well as hold one another accountable for tangible next steps for your n
 ew venture. \nThe incubator occurs over a semester\, with entrepreneurs jo
 ining on a drop-in basis. NC State student entrepreneurs are also eligible
  for micro funding. Funding can range from roughly $200 to $800 per studen
 t (up to $1\,000 per team)\, depending on your venture and it’s needs. \
 nSessions will alternate between guest speakers and collaborative grind se
 ssions. Guest speakers will be community and alumni founders covering pain
  points of the startup process\, while grind sessions will feature collabo
 rative work as you and your fellow founders take a moment to creatively wo
