atercolors by Suzanne Hetzel. With more than four decades of dedicated pra
ctice\, Hetzel has developed a signature approach that finds drama and del
ight in the overlooked beauty of the everyday world. Working primarily fro
m life and imagination on 100% rag paper with the finest archival pigments
\, she builds luminous\, richly layered compositions that pulse with color
and energy. Her work has been recognized by the National Watercolor Socie
ty\, the Transparent Watercolor Society of America\, Watercolor West\, and
the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society\, among others\, and has been feature
d three times in the prestigious annual publication Splash. Paintings from
her studio are held in private and public collections throughout the Unit
ed States and Great Britain. This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to

DESCRIPTION:Made by You: Japanese Boro Textile Stitching is a hands-on int
roduction to the Japanese art of visible mending\, transforming fabric scr
aps into a one-of-a-kind stitched textile. \nThis workshop introduces part
icipants to boro\, a centuries-old Japanese textile tradition where worn o
r mended fabric is patched and stitched together. Participants will look a
t boro’s history and the philosophy behind it\, including the idea of wa
bi-sabi\, finding beauty in imperfection and visible signs of use. Then\,
the workshop will teach foundational hand-stitching techniques\, including
running stitch and simple patch attachment\, before designing their own l
ayout using a mix of provided fabric scraps. Everyone will leave with a st
itched textile piece of their own and a working knowledge of a technique t
hey can keep building on at home. \nThis class is for beginners of all ski
ll levels\, ages 10+\, all supplies provided. However\, participants are w
elcome to bring fabric scraps from home with personal meaning (an old shir
t\, a worn pair of jeans\, fabric with sentimental value) to incorporate i
nto their piece. \nThis workshop will take place outdoors at the Hub RTP s
tage. In the event of unfavorable weather\, we do have an indoor backup pl
an. Due to the small-scale format of this project\, each participant needs
to purchase their own ticket in advance.

 \n \n Ancient Nubia \n\n \n Ancient Nubia has a
long and glorious past\, but it is frequently eclipsed in the public imag
ination by its northern neighbor\, Egypt. Ancient Nubia: Excavating Treasu
res of the Nile\, from the Museum of Fine Arts\, Boston\, brings into the
limelight the Kingdom of Kush\, an important civilization in the Middle Ni
le Valley\, introducing visitors to its powerful kings and royal women and
the materials excavated from their tombs and pyramids during the Harvard
University – Boston Museum of Fine Arts Expedition more than 100 years a
go.\nStunning displays highlight the longevity of this almost forgotten ki
ngdom through its three main historical periods spanning almost 3\,000 yea
rs\, speaking to its cultural continuity and adaptation as well as its his
torical and political connections to pharaonic Egypt.\nVisitors can learn
about this other powerful kingdom on the Nile from an archaeological persp
ective with hands-on and digital interactives. A special display highlight
s a connection to the NCMA’s very own Nubiologist and features recently
donated Egyptian objects as comparatives to the Nubian ones in the exhibit
 ion. \n \n \n \n \n \n Thr
