 \n \n Ancient Nubia \n\n \n Ancient Nubia has a
long and glorious past\, but it is frequently eclipsed in the public imag
ination by its northern neighbor\, Egypt. Ancient Nubia: Excavating Treasu
res of the Nile\, from the Museum of Fine Arts\, Boston\, brings into the
limelight the Kingdom of Kush\, an important civilization in the Middle Ni
le Valley\, introducing visitors to its powerful kings and royal women and
the materials excavated from their tombs and pyramids during the Harvard
University – Boston Museum of Fine Arts Expedition more than 100 years a
go. Stunning displays highlight the longevity of this almost forgotten kin
gdom through its three main historical periods spanning almost 3\,000 year
s\, speaking to its cultural continuity and adaptation as well as its hist
orical and political connections to pharaonic Egypt.\nVisitors can learn a
bout this other powerful kingdom on the Nile from an archaeological perspe
ctive with hands-on and digital interactives. A special display highlights
a connection to the NCMA’s very own Nubiologist and features recently d

DESCRIPTION:Sankai Juku creates work that unfolds slowly and deliberately\
, into what can feel like a new world\, where forces like time and gravity
seem to act on us in radically new ways.\n\n \n\nIn TOTEM: Void and Heigh
t\, dancers move with extraordinary presence and precision. Practicing the
Japanese dance tradition of Butoh\, the company’s performances exist so
mehow between stillness and action\, between gravity and transcendence—a
nd sometimes feel less like watching dance and more like stepping inside a
waking dream. \n\n \n\nThe final work choreographed by their founder Ushi
o Amagatsu before his death in 2024\, TOTEM: Void and Height reflects a li
felong exploration of the relationship between the human body\, the natura
l world\, and the forces that shape them both. Through striking imagery an
d breathtaking physical control\, the performance invites audiences to slo
 w down\, pay attention\, and experience time differently.\n\n \n\nThis is
a rare opportunity to encounter one of the world’s most influential cont

DESCRIPTION:Ballet BC transforms a theater full of strangers into a single
 \, collective audience response—a gasp\, a silence\, a moment of awe.\n\
n \n\nThis triple bill explores what it means to be human in relationship
to one another\, moving from the vulnerable to the virtuosic\, exploring d
eeply personal stories and moments of quiet intimacy to the exhilaration o
f masses of bodies moving together as one. \n\n \n\nThe evening opens with
Obsidian by choreographic collaborators Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber
\, whose work has been described as “wild and rebellious.” Artistic Di
rector Medhi Walerski’s SWAY follows\, inspired by Emily Dickinson’s p
oem “Hope is the thing with feathers” and set to an original score by
Adrien Cronet\, creating moments as fleeting and precarious as the hope de
scribed in the poem. The evening concludes with Shahar Binyamini’s BOLER
O X\, set to Ravel’s Boléro\, that builds with pulsating drive and exci
tement as the ranks of Ballet BC dancers multiply their forces\, turning t

\n\nIn DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME\, STREB performers—called “Action Hero
