DESCRIPTION:This class is designed to demystify the editing process with a
pplicable tools for editing at each stage of your draft. From fiction to c
reative nonfiction\, this workshop offers in-depth looks at different edit
orial tools to use to help you refine your story and your language. In thi
 s four-week workshop\, we’ll review practical\, applicable revision tool

those editing tools on your work in class. Homework includes expanded edit
ing exercises\, which we’ll discuss the following week. \nPlease bring:\
n● A notebook and at least 3 different colored writing utensils\n● For
day 1: a printed first page of something you’re working on\nEach writer
will be sent home with an editing checklist and editing goals for the com
ing weeks.\nAccess Program\nWe want our writing classes and seminars to be
accessible to everyone\, regardless of income and background. We understa
nd that our tuition structure can present obstacles for some people. Our A
ccess Program offers writing class and seminar tuitions at a reduced rate.
Most writing classes have at least one access spot available. \nPlease ap
ply here for access rate tuition. Contact Susan Moore at susan@literary-ar

ific duties for each class meeting. If you are a liaison for a class or se

what to do and where to start to counter these effects baffles us. Using P

tential\, the first module in a rare continuous fourteen-part program that
carries students the entire way through the Buddhist path to enlightenmen
t\, taught by the skillful and experienced Venerable Lozang Yönten. \nThe
opening session examines the mind itself: how it constructs the experienc
es we call happiness and suffering\, and how destructive thoughts and atti
tudes can be recognized\, understood\, and transformed into a mind that is
genuinely positive and at ease. It is the foundation on which all fourtee
n modules of Discovering Buddhism are built. \nEach session of this course
will be delivered to support real engagement and application\, giving stu
dents the chance to work directly with the teachings rather than to simply
hear them. Guidance will be offered on the mechanisms behind meditation i
tself\, so that students can use this understanding to deepen their practi
ce and maintain stability and consistency in daily life. \nThe course is o
pen to beginners and taught with enough depth to enrich senior students as
well. Students may join the cycle at any point\, but the early session is
the ideal place to begin. Under  Venerable Yönten’s guidance\, this f
ourteen-part\, consecutive journey offers a rare chance to walk the comple
te path with a single skilled teacher from start to finish. Don’t miss t
 his opportunity.

DESCRIPTION:Portland Area Board Games and RPGs\n**This weekly event series
is for people 50 and older to get together and play board and card games
in a relaxed\, social atmosphere.** The general focus is on light- to medi
um-weight modern board and card games\, but there are also a few participa
nts who enjoy heavier games. Older more-or-less modern games also come out
from time to time (but we won't be playing Monopoly or Sorry! -- sorry!
😲). Adult children under 50 are welcome to bring their 50+ parent(s) wi
th them!\n\nToday's modern board games are usually designed to keep all pl
ayers in the game until it ends\, and some offer more than one path to vic
tory. There are also a lot of fully or partially cooperative games now\, s
omething you probably did not experience in your childhood. Interested in
learning and playing modern board games? Come on down! This is a safe plac
e to stretch your mind and mingle.\n\nWe have three hosts now\, with Kevin
and Denise normally planning to come every week and Daley every other wee
 k. We will try to show only hosts actually planning to come on a given dat
e in the "Attendees" list once the date gets close. (This requires manual
intervention on our part as Meetup auto-RSVPs all hosts to all dates.) We
should be there at latest by the start time but often \\~10 minutes before
.\n\nNote that every other week the store hosts a video game event in the
big gaming room\, so those weeks we will usually be in the main store by t
he cafe instead. We usually bring signs so new people can find us more eas
ily\, but sometimes we forget. We also have several regulars now who bring
and teach games from their collections\, and the store has an extensive f
ree lending library we can also borrow from.\n\nIf you have games you want
to play\, please go ahead and bring them! Also\, don't hesitate to post q
uestions\, game preferences\, etc. in the discussion threads on the event
series and/or the individual events. A bunch of us check and respond to th
ose regularly.\n\n**Please RSVP if you can.** This helps us get an idea of
how many people to expect. In recent weeks we typically have about a doze
n people attending.\n\n**A brief message about ground rules:**\n\n* Try yo
ur best to be on time. Otherwise\, you may have to wait until a new - or a
nother - game is starting.\n* Please respect game components with clean ha
nds and gentle touch.\n* Discrimination of any kind and trash-talking will
not be tolerated.\n* Please also refrain from engaging in politics while
at the game table.\n* Errors will be made\, so please bear with these with
out hard feelings. It's only a game!\n* Win or lose\, "It's not the destin
 ation\, it's the journey" -- Ralph Waldo Emerson.\n\nWelcome "a-board"!

DESCRIPTION:Let the record show that here in 2026\, Dogstar is clearly All
  In Now. \nAfter a long 20 years of silence as a band\, this California-ba
sed power trio – guitarist and lead singer Bret Domrose\, drummer Robert
Mailhouse\, and bassist Keanu Reeves – surprised many and perhaps even
themselves when they returned in fine form in 2023 with a new album that f
ound the three joyfully making music again and doing it all Somewhere Betw
een the Power Lines and Palm Trees. Only two years later – after extensi
ve touring in America and around the world playing everywhere from sweaty
rock clubs to giant outdoor festivals – Dogstar is returning with strong
new songs that leave no doubt that this little band that could is back fo
r good with a powerful sound that is bigger and better than ever before.
“It felt like our last album was our ticket into a party\,” says Bret
Domrose. “And now we’ve shown up to the party – the three of us.”
\nDogstar is a group of three friends who have slowly yet surely become a
band of brothers – a group with multiple talents committed to picking up
the pace and locking into life as a working and increasingly beloved rock
band who are excited to get back on the road this summer. “We couldn’
t fucking wait\,” Keanu Reeves says about Dogstar’s collective desire
to get right back to the studio after the biggest and best tour of their l
ives. “Personally\, I loved it all.  For me\, the attitude was like\,
‘Let’s work hard and let’s GO.’ And we really enjoy the variety of
songs here – although one way or another\, they all do kind of rock.”
\nAs Robert Mailhouse sees it\, All In Now is the most vivid reflection o
f the passion and chemistry that has been driving Dogstar’s heartfelt ro
ck & roll dreams from the start. “The whole album may not hit quite as h
ard as the title track\, but somehow it really sets up the energy at the h
eart of this album and the fun that we’ve always had playing together.
” Indeed\, All In Now reflects Dogstar hitting festival stages and exper
iencing the energy that can happen between a band and a big live audience.
“We absorbed that last time out on tour\,” says Domrose. “We came o
ff those huge stages playing before big bands for up to like 50\,000 peopl
e and said\, ‘This is where we are now.’ Not consciously\, but all of
that soaked in.” \nMailhouse remembers\, “Just seeing the smiles on pe
ople’s faces and feeling their joy on a musical level. Playing some outd
oor festivals\, and when it starts to rain\, seeing nobody leaving.” \n
“Those festivals in Europe really made a big\, positive impact on us\,
” adds Reeves. \n“We loved playing to people in the afternoon who didn
’t necessarily come to see Dogstar\, but connected with what we were doi
ng. And that connected with us.” Bret continued\, “You never know if p
eople are going to show up\, are they going to stay\, are they going to li
sten? It meant a lot that people not only stayed but got into songs that t
hey mostly had never heard before.” \nAll In Now is an album that loudly
and clearly reflects Dogstar’s collective musical passions and growing
strengths as a road-tested band. “In your beauty there is a danger\,”
Domrose sings in the first line of All In Now‘s intense opening track\,
“Math\,” and this snaky\, darkly sexy track sets the impressive and sl
ightly mysterious tone for a decidedly cohesive album that seems both lyri
cally and musically full of both beauty and danger. \nThroughout the album
\, the rhythm section of Mailhouse and Reeves sounds more locked in than e
ver before\, while Domrose’s vocals and guitar work fly to increasingly
impressive new heights here. Overall\, All In Now finds Dogstar confidentl
y rocking harder than ever before on tracks like the title track and “Jo
y\,” and even when tone changes on gems like the wonderfully anthemic
“Shallow Easy” and the gorgeously melodic closing song\, “Wing\,”
this remains the altogether bracing sound of a rock band firing on all cyl
inders and all ready now to get back on the road and play. And somehow in
“All In Now” – the propulsive title track and the compelling first s
ingle from the new album – Dogstar has created its own theme song about
the state of their musical union here in 2026 a band that “has gone from
  lost to found.”
