DESCRIPTION:Middle Aged Women's Punk Rock Book Club Meetup\nHello Amazing
Middle-Aged Punk Rock Women!\nTo start off the fall\, let's fall into Virg
inia Woolf's The Waves!\n\nThe Waves is Virginia Woolf’s most experiment
al and lyrical novel\, capturing the inner lives of six friends as they mo
ve from childhood to adulthood\, each voice blending and separating like t
he tides they witness by the sea. Through shifting soliloquies\, Woolf rev
 eals their innermost thoughts\, fears\, and desires\, weaving a delicate t
apestry of identity and connection against the unrelenting passage of time
 .\n\nAs Bernard\, Susan\, Rhoda\, Neville\, Jinny\, and Louis navigate the
joys\, losses\, and changes of life\, their individual experiences merge
into a shared consciousness\, reflecting the ebb and flow of human existen
ce. Moments of love\, grief\, ambition\, and loneliness rise and fall like
waves\, capturing the beauty and fragility of life in its smallest detail
s and grandest reflections.\n\nA modernist masterpiece\, The Waves invites
readers into a poetic exploration of time\, memory\, and the deep current
s that shape who we are. Perfect for readers seeking a meditative\, immers
ive literary experience\, this novel reveals Woolf’s brilliance in captu
ring the rhythms of the human soul.

argest community based provider of HIV services and education in Oregon an
d Southwest Washington. For 41 years now\, the AIDS Walk has served as a s
pace to strengthen community and support a collective commitment to health
\, equity\, and compassion. \nThe walk acts as a way to not only remember
those lost to AIDS\, but also as a means of raising funds to support criti
cal services and uplift those living with HIV through a united celebration
of joy and strength.  \nTo honor the humanity of all individuals\, we mu
st stand up for our community members who have fought societal stigma and
unjust access to medical treatment. In doing so we ought to honor the lega

DESCRIPTION:The class is CANCELLED. Apologies for any inconvenience. \n\n
Birds are incredible and have adapted to survive in dynamic & changing env
ironments. Every species has unique traits and sometimes quite specialized
strategies. Using the backdrop of seasonal changes at Hoyt Arboretum\, Dr

to its avian inhabitants. Winter classes will center on adaptations for su
rviving intense seasonal conditions. Spring brings the frenzy of breeding
season. Summer includes juvenile development and the onset of the next ann
ual cycle. And\, Autumn classes will focus on the fall migration. Each sea
sonal class will highlight the various birds present in the Arboretum\, an
d include observation & discussion of specific aspects of how their brains
& bodies lead to certain behaviors useful in the Hoyt habitats. Short inf
ormal lectures and group discussions will be followed by exploratory bird-
watching hikes to observe these processes in action.\n\n\n	Registration cl
oses 2 hours before the start time\n	Class starts indoors and ends outside

DESCRIPTION:Everyone has a story worth telling. Author and researcher Dr.
Angel Contreras Cruz leads an interactive seminar designed to help transfo
rm one’s life experiences into the beginning of their own book. Through
a combination of storytelling\, practical instruction\, and guided writing
exercises\, participants will learn how to organize their ideas\, overcom
e the fear of writing\, and discover ways to turn personal memories into m
eaningful narratives. Whether interested in writing a memoir\, preserving
family history\, or simply exploring one’s creative voice\, this is a we
lcoming space to begin. Whether you’ve never written before or have been
working on your story for years\, this is an opportunity to take the firs
t step. \nDr. Angel Contreras Cruz is an author\, researcher\, and educato
r based in the Portland metropolitan area. His work explores migration\, i
dentity\, and the power of personal storytelling. He is the author of Lecc
iones que nadie te cuenta al migrar: Memorias de un inmigrante en Estados
Unidos\, which was selected for the 2026 Multnomah County Library Writers
Project. Drawing from his own experience as an immigrant and published aut
hor\, Dr. Contreras Cruz is passionate about helping others discover the v
alue of their own stories. Through engaging workshops and community-center
ed learning\, he encourages participants to organize their ideas\, build c
onfidence as writers\, and transform personal experiences into meaningful
narratives. \nPlease note: Attendees should bring a favorite pen or pencil
 \, something on which to write (notebook\, journal\, loose paper\, laptop\
, tablet\, etc.)\, an open mind\, and a willingness to reflect on their ex
periences. They have the option of bringing a meaningful photo\, object\,
or keepsake that sparks an important memory to use as a writing prompt. \n
 Running time: 3 hours\nAge recommendation: 13+

DESCRIPTION:Star 80 (1983) Directed by Bob Fosse. 1hr 43min. Rated R. \n\n
\n\nStar 80 is presented by Director Fits as part of a series on Fashion a
nd Film. A disturbing\, beautiful\, and haunting film about the rise-and-f
all of Dorothy Stratten.  \n\n\n\n“Four stars! An important movie. Deva
 stating\, violent\, hopeless\, and important\, because it holds a mirror u
p to a part of the world we live in\, and helps us see it more clearly.”
  – Roger Ebert \n\n\n\nDirector Fits is a media platform focusing on the
everyday sartorial decisions of filmmakers. We believe that directors are
an often overlooked group of impeccably well-dressed artists making bold
choices when it comes to clothing. We focus on their personal style\, the
practical garments they wear while they work\, their buttoned-up red carpe
t looks\, and so much more. We dive deep into the thought process of a dir
ector’s view on clothing and how it affects them as well as their films.
\n\n\n\nWe do not generally provide advisories about subject matter or po
tentially triggering content in films\, and films exhibited don’t necess
arily reflect the views of PAM CUT or the Portland Art Museum. In addition
to the synopses\, trailers\, and other links on our website\, further inf

host a gathering for women\, marking the close of the Hidden Happiness To
ur’s Portland visit\, led by Ani Choyang\, Venerable Yönten\, and Maitr
ipa College leadership. The intention is simple: to fill the space with w
omen’s practice and to connect with one another with care and attention.
Through sitting practice\, guided reflection\, and shared conversation\,
the afternoon will turn toward the distinct qualities women have long carr
ied within the tradition\, a fierceness capable of meeting anger\, fear\,
and mortality without flinching\, alongside a steady\, strong attention th
at holds space for others to do the same. Consider it a first gathering\,

DESCRIPTION:Are you curious to hear tales of what haunts the buildings and
streets of Downtown Vancouver? Interested in the strange and peculiar sid
e of our local history? Then join us as we take an excursion through Clark
County’s haunted history. Friday and Saturday nights in October guides
from the Clark County Historical Museum will lead inquiring minds to the a
nswers. Join them on walking tours along Main Street and beyond to uncover
the unexplained in this historic city. \nA mix of stories\, memories\, re
search\, and personal experiences\, these tours are a fascinating glimpse
through the darker side of history. Many of our tales of history and terro
r are drawn from the book Darkness Next Door\, penned by Clark County hist
orian\, Pat Jollota. They begin at 7:00 PM \, and guides will lead up to 2
5 people for approximately a mile while making frequent stops along the wa
 y. General admission tickets are $20.00 per person and ($15.00 for CCHM Me
mbers). \nAll are welcome on the tours\, though they are best suited for t
hose 10 years and older. Tickets are required for all persons attending ov
er the age of six. In addition\, tours happen rain or shine\, so CCHM enco
urages guests to bring a flashlight and dress for the weather. (Costumes a
ppreciated.) \nCCHM’s Haunted Walking Tours is an annual and popular ser
ies that supports the museum’s mission to gather\, save\, and share Clar
k County history. \nPresented by Heritage Bank\nSponsored by Squires Elect
ric and the Vancouver Downtown Association\nMedia Sponsor: The Columbian \
nTickets on sale to non-members on August 19. Members\, see email sent Aug

audiences. \nThe Dark\, performed by Joe Cullen (Salomé\, Design for Livi
ng) and Cincinnati\, performed by Diane Slamp (Geography of a Horse Dreame
r\, Design for Living). Direction by Jerry Mouawad. \nTHE DARK \nA man in
his thirties grapples with a fundamental question: does he truly exist? Th
is dilemma\, first encountered at age four\, drives the narrative of this
ten-page script. Director Jerry Mouawad calls it “the perfect warm-up fo
r Nigro’s work and his intriguing solos\, many of which take place in a
theatre.” \nCINCINNATI \n“It’s hard not to feel that this piece was
written specifically for Imago\,” says Slamp\, who portrays a lost profe
ssor navigating a world of tragedy\, sex\, and philosophical diatribes. He
r diversions reveal a desperate search for redemption amidst personal disa
ster. \n“Cincinnati is multi-layered\, blending mythology and realism wi
th an ontological examination of life and being\,” explains Mouawad. “
It’s a gem for an audience seeking a new kind of theatre. Don’t let th
e heavy themes mislead you\; this is a small spectacle with humor and high
style. I see it as a consciousness tangling with forces of nature\, an un
 certain reality\, and a triad of personas—real or unreal—in a lecture
that pushes the boundaries of endurance.” \nProduction Credits:\nLight D
