DESCRIPTION:Sketching is\n\nSketching is at the heart of this four-week na
ture journaling series among the various tree collections in the Arboretum
.  Each week we’ll settle into a different collection - getting to kno
w individual trees through close observation\, quiet attention and the act
of putting pencil or pen to paper.\n\nYou’ll learn to see bark texture\
, branch structure\, leaf shape and seasonal change not as challenges to d
raw “correctly\,” but as an invitation into deeper noticing.  We’l
l combine field sketching with nature writing\, then layer in color using
your preferred materials - colored pencil\, watercolor or a mix of both.\n
\nNo drawing experience required\, just curiosity and a willingness to sit
with a tree for a while.  Come away with a growing journal of trees you
’ll never look at the same way again.\n\nSupplies: A journal or noteboo
 k with unlined paper\, pencil\, eraser\, Sakura Pigma Micron pens\, option
al watercolors and/or colored pencils.\n\nPlease note we will be hiking to
various spots within the Arboretum.  Benches and tables will be availab
le in most places\, but not all. Bring a lightweight blanket or towel to
sit on\, and keep your supplies minimal for easy movement throughout the p
 ark.\n\n Registration includes September 4\, 11\, 18\, and 25\n Visit th

DESCRIPTION:Star 80 (1983) Directed by Bob Fosse. 1hr 43min. Rated R. \n\n
\n\nStar 80 is presented by Director Fits as part of a series on Fashion a
nd Film. A disturbing\, beautiful\, and haunting film about the rise-and-f
all of Dorothy Stratten.  \n\n\n\n“Four stars! An important movie. Deva
 stating\, violent\, hopeless\, and important\, because it holds a mirror u
p to a part of the world we live in\, and helps us see it more clearly.”
  – Roger Ebert \n\n\n\nDirector Fits is a media platform focusing on the

choices when it comes to clothing. We focus on their personal style\, the

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Buckley Center Art Gallery reception with artist
Teresa Getty. Teresa Getty’s survey exhibition\, Diagnosis: Superstar\,
honors her daughter\, the family’s “superstar”. Living with and car
ing for a child with a rare genetic condition has shaped and driven more t
han two decades of Getty’s artistic exploration. The Buckley Center Gall
ery will be presenting selected paintings and works on paper from across h
er artistic practice\, including a series of new paintings made specifical
ly for this exhibition.\n\n \n\nThese works have been created in response
to the rhythms of care. Each period of making represented in the exhibitio
n holds a marker to the ebb and flow of nurses in the home versus the weig
ht of care on the artist shoulders\, reflecting the extremes of changing s
upport and the intensity of medical needs over time.\n\n \n\nAs a painter\
, Getty considers diagnosis as an ongoing\, profoundly human experience\,
one that she meets with through painting and drawing with exuberance\, tra
nslating these lived experiences into abstract visual forms that invite re
 flection\, connection and hope. \n\n \n\nTeresa Getty is a Seattle-based a
rtist and educator whose paintings and works on paper embody experience\,
perception\, and care. She received her BFA from the School of the Art Ins
titute of Chicago and her MFA from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
Her work has been exhibited nationally\, and she is the recipient of two L
incoln Center teaching grants and an artist residency at the Vermont Studi

DESCRIPTION:Join artist Teresa Getty for a hands-on art activity inspired
by techniques used in her studio practice. Participants will choose from a
  collection of printed images—including flowers\, architecture\, natural
forms\, and everyday objects—and use a simple transfer process to creat
e the starting point for a drawing. Using oil pastels\, participants will
respond to and transform their transferred image through color\, line\, an
 d texture\, creating a small artwork to take home.\n\n \n\nNo drawing expe
rience is necessary. Curiosity\, experimentation\, and fun are encouraged.
