DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Buckley Center Art Gallery reception with artist
Teresa Getty. Teresa Getty’s survey exhibition\, Diagnosis: Superstar\,
honors her daughter\, the family’s “superstar”. Living with and car
ing for a child with a rare genetic condition has shaped and driven more t
han two decades of Getty’s artistic exploration. The Buckley Center Gall
ery will be presenting selected paintings and works on paper from across h
er artistic practice\, including a series of new paintings made specifical
ly for this exhibition.\n\n \n\nThese works have been created in response
to the rhythms of care. Each period of making represented in the exhibitio
n holds a marker to the ebb and flow of nurses in the home versus the weig
ht of care on the artist shoulders\, reflecting the extremes of changing s
upport and the intensity of medical needs over time.\n\n \n\nAs a painter\
, Getty considers diagnosis as an ongoing\, profoundly human experience\,
one that she meets with through painting and drawing with exuberance\, tra
nslating these lived experiences into abstract visual forms that invite re
 flection\, connection and hope. \n\n \n\nTeresa Getty is a Seattle-based a
rtist and educator whose paintings and works on paper embody experience\,
perception\, and care. She received her BFA from the School of the Art Ins
titute of Chicago and her MFA from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
Her work has been exhibited nationally\, and she is the recipient of two L
incoln Center teaching grants and an artist residency at the Vermont Studi
o Center. Visit her website at www.teresagetty.com.\n\n \n\nFor more infor
mation or ADA accommodations\, contact garaventa@up.edu or 503-943-7702.

DESCRIPTION:In conjunction with Teresa Getty's exhibit in the Buckley Cent
er Art Gallery\, Getty will discuss how the rhythms of caregiving have sha
ped her artistic practice and the making of Diagnosis: Superstar. The talk
will explore the ebb and flow of creative work and how paintings can move
between being an outlet for lived experience and a carefully held space f
or vulnerability. Through this conversation\, Getty invites viewers to con
sider care not only as a medical practice\, but also as a creative and dee
ply human one.\n\n \n\nPlease join us prior to the talk for the artist rec
eption in BC Gallery with Teresa Getty from 4:30 - 5:45 p.m.\, and on Sept
 ember 22 from 1-3 p.m. with Teresa Getty for a hands-on drawing activity i
