  and ever-growing fan base in the US and Europe since the mid ‘90s. His 
 songs range from deeply moving to wildly imaginative and hilarious\, often

  masters of songwriting\, such as Guthrie\, Dylan\, Costello. Though he dr
 aws from the great American tradition of songwriting\, there is something 
 deeply unique and compelling that make you want to get to know the man beh

 \n\n\nIn the summer of 2024 a group of neighbors met in their backyard and
  bonded over a shared love of 90s alt rock\, bringing together an unlikely
  pairing of musicians: Kurt\, a veteran of the touring scene who recorded 
 with J Mascis/Dinosaur Jr\, Mark Lanegan\, and GobbleHoof\, among others\;
  Gene\, a music educator and saxophonist with feet in both the classical a
 nd jazz worlds\; and Caroline\, an ex-opera singer and late-in-life guitar
  player. The casual meetup quickly became a vehicle for Caroline’s songw
 riting\, and the trio would regularly sneak into the dusty unfinished base
 ment of their apartment building to jam (don’t tell our ex-landlord!). W
 ith the addition of Stephen Bennett (of bands Robert Samantha and God’s 
 Furniture) on lead guitar\, the group hit the circuit and played increasin
 gly-hyped shows in the greater Portland\, ME area. With strong vocals and 
 heavy hooks\, Lolabelle’s music is both bittersweet and deeply visceral\
 , cathartic but also fun and full of driving energy. \n\n\n\nPlaying venue
 s ranging from the highly-established (Blue Portland Maine\, The Apohadion
  Theater\, The Portland Club\, Hey Sailor! and the Starboard Lounge\, Hi-F
 idelity\, Fogtown Brewing Company\, to name a few) to the totally DIY (bas
 ements\, house parties\, driveway shows\, you name it)\, Lolabelle is sure
  to pack a punch and bring the party with their high-energy live show. Jus
 t as important to the music is the handmade/homemade spirit infused in the
  band– whether it’s the limited edition shirts Caroline screen-printed
 -on-demand at a backyard fest\, or the film photo you spot of yourself in

 e wide open fields of bluegrass/Americana JigJam is born. Bluegrass and Am
 erican Folk music originated from the group’s home\, and now JigJam is h
 ere to take it back! \n\n\n\nJigJam made its Grand Ole Opry Debut in Nashv
 ille in March 2023 to critical acclaim receiving a standing ovation from a

 n\n\n\nThere are songwriters who chronicle life\, and then there’s David
  Wilcox—an artist who metabolizes it. He has long been a quiet force in 
 American folk music\; a musician’s musician\, a writer’s writer\, and 
 a seeker whose gift lies in making the personal feel universal. \n\n\n\n
 ​With the release of The Way I Tell the Story (2025)\, Wilcox proves\, y
 et again\, that resilience isn’t just a survival skill—it’s an art f
 orm. The record shimmers with musical sophistication but leaves just enoug
 h space for the listener to feel what Wilcox has always done best: tell th
 e truth\, gently but without apology.The music he’s creating now comes f
 rom a place that can’t be faked. In recent years\, Wilcox’s life has b
 een shaped by his wife’s Parkinson’s diagnosis—a shift that reordere
 d his priorities and redefined his sense of time\, love\, and presence. Bu

  Providence\, RI. Initially recognized for his skill as a string band musi
 cian\, Blount has synthesized his scholarly and artistic pursuits into a d
 iverse performance practice that has taken him to Carnegie Hall\, Newport 
 Folk Festival\, NPR’s Tiny Desk\, and beyond. His albums\, released on F
 ree Dirt Records and Smithsonian Folkways Recordings\, have been featured 
 in best-of lists from NPR\, The New Yorker\, and Rolling Stone. His schola
 rly publications include “Jail the Zombie: Black Banjoists\, Biopolitics
 \, and Archives\,” published in Modern American History. He also served 
 as a music consultant for the movie Sinners\, and performed on the soundtr
 ack of Ken Burns’s The American Revolution. Blount holds an A.M. in Musi
 cology and Ethnomusicology from Brown University\, where he is working tow
 ard a Ph.D. in the same and a second master’s degree in Anthropology. A

 n\n\n\nIt takes good soil\, and good seasons\, to bear good fruit\, and Up
 state has had its plenty. The band sprung up in New York’s legendary Hud
 son Valley\, set in the middle of a thick American musical heritage. To th
 eir inland West was the Ashokan reservoir folk tradition\, and across the 
 river to the East the legacy of Pete Seeger and the Clearwater. Just north
  of them was Woodstock and Big Pink\, and all the treasured inheritance of
  Bob Dylan and the Band. Just south was Tony Falco’s famed venue the Fal
 con\, a refuge and respite for some of the most venerable jazz legends lik
 e Sonny Rollins or Joe Lovano. From the first\, Upstate drew liberally fro
 m everything each corner had to offer. \n\n\n\nWith their first record\, A
  Remedy\, they were known for three-part female vocal arrangements recalli
 ng “not only the serpentine sibling harmonies of the Roches\, but of the
  Andrews and Boswell sisters.” They were otherwise known for an eclectic
  arrangement of instruments weaving together upright bass\, mandolin\, caj
 on and baritone saxophone. By their second record Healing\, they were like
 ned to Lake Street Dive and “Manhattan Transfer meets Loretta Lynn.” F
 or their third\, You Only Get a Few\, they drew comparisons to the sound o
 f Laurel Canyon\, another American musical landmark on the other side of t
 he continent. This time they had shed the eclectic instrumentation in favo
 r of traditional drums and guitars. \n\n\n\nAfter 15 years\, three records
 \, nearly a dozen former members\, and one name change\, Upstate could alm
 ost seem unrecognizable were it not for the constancy of their songs. Orig
 inal members Melanie Glenn\, Harry D’Agostino\, and Mary Webster have be
 en writing and playing music together throughout all the upheavals in the 
 band and their lives. It’s their shared dedication to writing songs of l

 )\, each of our 2026 Fellows will host one of One Longfellow Square’s mo
 nthly Open Mic nights. LEAF is a yearlong program that supports Maine-base
 d artists through paid performance opportunities\, creative development\, 
 and deeper connection with their community. Hosting an open mic gives Fell
 ows a chance to shape a night they care about – welcoming artists into t
 he room\, inviting a featured performer\, and spending time connecting wit
 h an audience in a relaxed\, low-pressure setting. These nights create a c
 hance for the community to check in with our LEAF Fellows throughout the y
 ear – to see how their work is evolving\, spend time together in the roo

 voices\, and a shared love of great songs\, stories\, and the spaces betwe
 en them. \n\n\n\nAward-winning Portland\, Maine singer-songwriter Connor 
 Garvey and acclaimed pianist/composer Ben Cosgrove have been making mus
 ic together for years\, bringing an unusually dynamic combination of Garve
 y’s rhythmic\, soulful songwriting and Cosgrove’s richly textured\, la
 ndscape-inspired piano work to stages throughout New England and beyond. \

 \, Massachusetts\, Vermont\, Colorado\, and beyond\, with notable appearan
