 er\n\n \n\nStephen I. Vladeck is one of the nation's leading scholars on t
 he U.S. Supreme Court\, constitutional law\, and the federal courts. He is
  the author of the New York Times bestselling book\, The Shadow Docket\, a
 nd a frequent legal analyst for CNN\, MSNBC\, NPR\, and other national med
 ia outlets. His scholarship has been cited by courts across the country\, 
 including the Supreme Court.\n\n \n\nFor most of American history\, the Su
 preme Court's authority rested not on its independence as such but on a br
 oad\, diffuse public trust that it was exercising that independence respon
 sibly — a trust sustained by a continuous\, often unglamorous dialogue w
 ith Congress over the Court's size\, its calendar\, its budget\, and above
  all its docket. That dialogue has gone silent. This lecture argues that t
 he resulting crisis is not that the Court has too much power but that it a
 nswers to no one for how it uses it\, and that the remedy is neither Court
 -packing nor jurisdiction-stripping but the patient restoration of interbr
 anch accountability-because a Court that Americans across the spectrum bel
 ieve is behaving responsibly is also the only Court strong enough to stop 
 a president who has decided not to listen.

 ination of information gathered by various knowledge sources and sensors t
 o provide inference regarding a phenomenon of interest. This fascinating f
 ield has evolved over the past four decades and is being applied to a wide
  variety of fields such as military command and control\, robotics\, image
  processing\, air traffic control\, medical diagnostics\, pattern recognit
 ion\, environmental monitoring\, IoT and smart cities. This talk will pres
 ent an overview of the field\, present some recent research results\, illu
 strate its utility by means of some examples and conclude with some open p
 roblems.\n\nBio: Pramod K. Varshney was born in Allahabad\, India\, in 195
 2. He received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering and computer scie
 nce (with highest honors)\, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical e
 ngineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1972\, 1
 974\, and 1976 respectively. Since 1976 he has been with Syracuse Universi
 ty\, Syracuse\, NY where he is currently a Distinguished Professor of Elec
 trical Engineering and Computer Science. His current research interests ar
 e in distributed sensor networks and data fusion\, detection and estimatio
 n theory\, wireless communications\, machine learning\, AI and radar. \n\n
 Dr. Varshney was the recipient of the 1981 ASEE Dow Outstanding Young Facu
 lty Award. He was elected to the grade of Fellow of the IEEE in 1997 for h
 is contributions in the area of distributed detection and data fusion. In 
 2000\, he received the Third Millennium Medal from the IEEE and Chancellor
 ’s Citation for exceptional academic achievement at Syracuse University.
  He is the recipient of the IEEE 2012 Judith A. Resnik Award. He received 
 an honorary Doctor of Engineering degree from Drexel University in 2014\, 
 ECE Distinguished Alumni Award from UIUC in 2015\, the Yaakov Bar-Shalom A
 ward for Lifetime Excellence in Information Fusion as well as ISIF Fellow 
 designation in 2018\, the Claude Shannon-Harry Nyquist Technical Achieveme
 nt Award from the IEEE Signal Processing Society\, the Pioneer Award from 
 the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Society in 2021\, and Syracuse Universit
 y Chancellor’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023.

 ntifying the various ways that climate and land use change can alter strea
 m flow and biogeochemistry is critical to managing water resources\, yet c
 hallenging due to the complexity of critical zone processes. For example\,
  historic discharge and chemistry trends may not reflect future conditions
  when the processes that control water storage\, transmission\, and biogeo
 chemical reactions are fundamentally altered by climate and land use chang
 e. We demonstrate hydraulic and biogeochemical processes that are most sen
 sitive to change by comparing watershed discharge and chemistry across var
 iable spatial and temporal scales\, from long-term (20+ years) trends from
  watersheds across the United States\, to short-term patterns in individua
 l watersheds. Specifically\, we infer changing stream chemistry through ch
 anging stream flow source\, the exposure of new reaction fronts\, temperat
 ure impacts on solubility\, and anthropogenic impacts such as acid rain an
 d road salt. Overall\, we highlight the complexity of stream biogeochemist
 ry\, the importance of long-term data records\, and a need to consider the
  non-stationary drivers that impact stream hydrologic and biogeochemical p
 rocesses.\n\nBiography: \n\nSara Warix is an Assistant Professor of Geolog
 y & Geophysics at the University of Utah\, where she leads a research grou
 p focused on mountain hydrology and geochemistry in Earth's Critical Zone.
  Her work spans groundwater-surface water interactions\, stream drying dyn
 amics\, and solute export across semi-arid western watersheds\, combining 
 field\, lab\, and computational approaches. She completed her PhD at the C
 olorado School of Mines\, Master's at Idaho State University\, and Bachelo
 r's at the University of the Pacific.

  at the University of Chicago\, where he also founded and serves as Direct
 or of the Chicago Project on Security and Threats.  He has described his w
 ork as the study of “how force is used to achieve political objectives\,
  how escalation unfolds\, and how strategies of restraint can succeed or f
 ail in international and American political violence.”  In anticipation 
 of the September release of his most recent book\, Our Own Worst Enemies: 
  America in the Age of Violent Populism\, the New Press said\, “The nati
 on’s leading expert on political violence diagnoses the gravest threat t
 o American democracy and how to overcome it.”  Former U.S. Secretary of 
 Defense and U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel wrote that “Pape’s book presents 
 a critically important and insightful analysis of the dangerous realities 
 of internal divisions that destroy security and governance.”  Professor 
 Pape’s earlier books include Cutting the Fuse: The Explosion of Global S
 uicide Terrorism and How to Stop It\, The Strategic Logic of Suicide Terro
 rism\, and Bombing to Win: Airpower and Coercion in War.  His commentaries
  have appeared in the New York Times\, Washington Post\, New Republic\, Bo
 ston Globe\, Los Angeles Times\, and Bulletin of Atomic Scientists\, and h
 e has been a featured guest on Face the Nation\, The Whole Story with Ande
 rson Cooper\, All In with Chris Hayes\, ABC News\, CBS News\, CNN\, Fox Ne
 ws\, and National Public Radio\, among others. Earlier in his career\, Pro
 fessor Pape taught at Dartmouth College and the U.S. Air Force School of A
 dvanced Airpower Studies.  He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Chic
 ago and his undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh.  At Pi
 tt\, he graduated summa cum laude\, earned membership in Phi Beta Kappa\, 
 was selected through a very competitive national process to receive a pres
 tigious\, merit-based Harry S. Truman Scholarship\, and has his name engra
 ved in Pitt’s Omicron Delta Kappa walk as the most outstanding student l

 scription: In this introductory series\, students will explore forming ves
 sels on the wood lathe. Beginning with spindle turning\, students will cre
 ate a pen and a lidded vessel to understand the basics of lathe mechanics 
 and tool usage. Over the following weeks\, students will be introduced to 
 bowl turning and develop their skills\, leading up to the capstone project
 : a segmented maple and walnut bowl. Alongside learning the basic processe
 s of the lathe\, students will learn how to prepare a segmented bowl blank
 \, from cutting the individual segments\, assembling them\, to turning the
  bowl. This is a great opportunity for students interested in the lathe to
  get an in-depth overview of creating various vessel forms. \nNo woodworki
 ng experience is necessary\, though lots of techniques will be covered—s
 tudents should expect a fast-paced learning environment! \nThanks to Turne
