She uses the process of flameworking\, h ot-sculpting and glassblowing to create large-scale sculptures that overwh elm the viewer with ornate abstraction and viral accrual. With an instinct ive nature towards horror vacui\, her pieces reference memory\, domesticit y and the loss of an industry through the re-use of common items from the aesthetic dustbin of American design. The primary material used for her wo rk is glass cullet sourced from scrap yards supplied by now defunct presse d glass factories as well as flea-markets\, antique-stores and donations o f broken antiques from households across the country. \nHer recent diorama -style pieces tell stories of self-discovery\, escapism and the power of t he feminine by utilizing figurines and animals found in collected antique glass pieces. These figurines become recurring symbols in the evolving nar rative and simultaneously pay homage to the history of US glassmaking. \nC owan lives and works in Philadelphia where she received an MFA in Ceramics /Glass from Tyler School of Art and Architecture of Temple University. As the night unfolds\, the glow of the furnace and the warmth of shared experien ce invites reflection\, connection\, and hands-on creativity. \nHave your cards read to explore what the new year might have in store for you and cr eate a custom herb blend for bathing or burning to help you get rid of the old and bring in the new with Arts & Crafts: Botanica & Occult Shop. Part icipate in a collective intention ritual: write down something you’re re ady to let go of or something you hope to carry forward\, then release the m with the help of our hot glass artists and the power of the furnace itse lf. It’s a symbolic act of change: fire\, glass\, and intention working together. Plus\, make your own candle holder\, etched or fused suncatcher. \nMake-It-Now events are an opportunity to quickly try glassmaking with t he assistance of a local artist.  Activities range from 20 minutes for gl assblowing\, flameworking\, and sandblasting and up to an hour for fusing.
