DESCRIPTION:Humans Are Living Histories \nVenus Bayat | 2022–2026 \nWe c
arry the past in our bodies\, memories\, and images. In this project\, I u
se photography to bring different moments of time into the same visual spa
ce. By combining archival photographs with contemporary images\, I create
encounters between people who lived in different times and places. \nThese
photographs are not intended to reconstruct history exactly as it was. In
stead\, they explore how traces of the past continue to shape the present.
A face\, a posture\, or a familiar emotion can connect people across gene
rations\, revealing history as something lived rather than distant. \nThro
ughout this project\, I am particularly interested in personal archives an
d family photographs as sites of memory. Many of these images have survive
d because they were preserved\, protected\, and passed down through genera
tions. In many families\, this work of remembering has traditionally been
carried out by women\, whose contributions often remain absent from offici
al historical narratives. \nBy layering photographs from different periods
\, I explore history not as a linear sequence of events\, but as an ongoin
g presence that continues to exist within everyday life. Although human be
havior\, lifestyles\, and technologies change over time\, experiences such
  as love\, loss\, belonging\, displacement\, care\, and memory remain deep
ly recognizable. \nThrough these visual encounters between past and presen
t\, I examine how individuals\, particularly women\, participate in the pr
eservation\, transmission\, and reinterpretation of history. In this sense
\, history is not only behind us. It lives within us. \nHumans are living
 histories.

DESCRIPTION:When Bai–a dancer with an alcohol problem– receives a post
card from her missing boyfriend that only says “Gloaming in Luomu\,” s
he heads to the untouched\, idyllic village to try to find out what happen
ed to him. There\, she connects with a host of interesting characters\, al
l of whom help her as she feels increasingly more connected to her absent
companion. In Gloaming in Luomu\, Korean-Chinese filmmaker Zhang Lu offer
s a radical reworking vanished soulmate theme\, with the Sichuan-set tale
unfolding like a delirious dream\, the mysteries of its complex characters
and metaphysical conversations heightened by meticulous camerawork and im

DESCRIPTION:Create wearable art from nature!\n\n\nNatural Dye Workshop: Ec
o-Printing with Summer’s Bounty with Kelly Lane \n3-Hour workshop \nDate
 : Saturday\, September 19 \nTime: 2pm – 5pm \nDescription: Join Kelly La
ne in the Beth Wainwright Dye Lab at Contemporary Craft for a fun-filled m
orning creating wearable art with summer’s bounty! \nIn this workshop\,
we will explore the process of eco-printing\, in which the shapes and colo
rs of flowers are permanently transferred onto fabric through bundling and
steaming. \nWe will cover various eco-printing techniques\, focusing on a
method that uses a dye-soaked blanket and a barrier cloth to create a col
orful background alongside the shapes and colors of summer flowers. You wi
ll learn how to properly prepare fabric and use a special technique to ach
ieve clear\, crisp prints. \nYour one-of-a-kind design will be created on
a super soft\, organic cotton bandana. At the end of the workshop\, you wi
ll receive a project packet that includes details on the eco-printing proc
ess\, along with resources to replicate this method at home. \nAll materia
ls will be provided\, but if you would like to bring your own flowers or o
ther plant matter\, please feel free to do so. This workshop is open to al
 l skill levels – no prior experience is needed! \nTuition: $65 + $20 mat
erials fee \nIf you are viewing this lisitng on your phone via the CC webs
ite\, please click this link to go to the Eventbrite registration page. \n
Scholarships: Note: We really want you to join us in the studio! Partial a

his workshop will take place in the Beth Wainwright Dye Lab\, which is loc

elly with her class from August 15\, 2026!!! \n\n\nAbout the Artist Kelly
is a natural dye and mixed media artist and educator. Her work is inspired
by our innate connection to the natural world and the wellspring of wisdo
m that surfaces when we slow down and tune in to our surroundings. As an a
rtist\, she taps into this connection to create work that is an intermingl
ed reflection of landscapes within and without. \nFor each project\, Kelly
thoughtfully forages plants to create botanical palettes that imbue both
formal beauty and conceptual depth. In addition to plant-based dyes\, she
also incorporates sustainable or rescued textiles in her work. With over 1
5 years of experience as a sustainable clothing designer\, Kelly has a dee
p appreciation for natural fibers and the warmth they radiate. \nIn additi
on to her artistic practice\, Kelly loves sharing her passion for creating
color with plants through teaching natural dye and ink-making workshops.

DESCRIPTION:It’s not every day that someone turns 40. Well\, maybe that
does happen every day. Anyway\, it’s not every day that a specific perso
n turns 40. In fact\, it’s not today either because it happened a few mo
nths ago. Anyway\, anyway\, we are belatedly celebrating the 40th birthday
of local lesbian icon Siobhan Genesis. Instead of inviting all of her fri
ends\, she’s inviting you! One of her lifelong dreams has been to be a D
J\, so we’re asking everyone to come dance and pretend that she’s drop
ping the bangiest bangers you’ve ever heard (come on\, it’s her birthd
ay sort of). There will be snacks\, S-tier vibes\, and probably some surpr
ise performances or other shenanigans. \nWe’re kicking it all off in the
late afternoon\, so there’s no need to stay up all night partying. This
is a 40-year-old woman we’re talking about — she’s gotta get to bed
. We’re asking for a (voluntary) five bucks at the door to cover expense
 s. Any extra proceeds will go to local charities.

DESCRIPTION:In Filipiñana\, Isabel—a new “tee girl” at a luxury gol
f course’s –attempts to navigate the quiet luxury and ruthless hierarc
hical structure of Manila’s wealthy elite. Even as Isabel becomes increa
singly entranced with the club’s president Mr. Palanca\, she also seems
to know secrets that point to Palanca’s dark history. The film’s highl
y artificial shots of composed pastel symmetries and minutely choreographe
d workers paint a portrait of a Manila’s high society as simultaneously
banal and terrifying. The luxurious facility echoes the country’s instab
ilities: its challenges from climate upheaval amid an increasingly wealthy
elite\, its history of violence\, and its underlying class conflicts. Fir
st-time feature director Rafael Manual’s confident artisanship and darkl
y funny writing are remarkable\, but Jorrybell Agota (Isabel) is the stand
out star of the film\, as a young woman who wants a different life than ha
s been allocated to her. Her relationship with Palance maps the Philippine
s’s past onto its present\, showing how even the most elite can’t esca
pe the realities in which they live. \n\nBest First Feature Nominee: Berl
