DESCRIPTION:Director Bahram Ark plays Bahram\, a director with several unc
ompromising films behind him. When his latest work is also denied screenin
g approval in Iran\, he and his blue-haired producer Sadaf (played by actu
al producer and Ali Asgari regular Sadaf Asgari) refuse to back down and d
o everything they can to organize a screening. Divine Comedy follows a lon
g day’s battle for artistic freedom in a country where absurd bureaucrac
y can only be overcome with equally absurd methods. With its wonderfully d
ry humor and subtly powerful performances\, this charming film becomes bot
h an artistic triumph and a quiet act of resistance. \n\nBest Film Nominee

DESCRIPTION:Following the horrific death of their mother while on the job
at a wig factory in Jakarta\, sisters Putri (Rachel Amanda) and Ida (Lutes
ha) decide to visit the premises to investigate. Upon arriving at the gloo
my\, prison-like building\, they meet the mysterious and intimidating Mrs.
Maryati (Didik Nini Thowok)\, the owner of the Evergreen factory\, who te
lls them they will have to work there to pay off the colossal debt their l
ate mother had incurred to fund Ida’s education. There are great bonuses
\, but the workers live in an exhausted\, zombie-like state. When more wor
kplace accidents (and eventual deaths) occur\, the sisters begin to invest
igate. This visceral\, grotesque body horror underscores the relationship
between violence and labor\, and the ability of capitalism to both steal e
verything from the human body and also to use even magic as a labor-saving
resource in the pursuit of global profit.

he heads to the untouched\, idyllic village to try to find out what happen

DESCRIPTION:In Filipiñana\, Isabel—a new “tee girl” at a luxury gol
f course’s –attempts to navigate the quiet luxury and ruthless hierarc
hical structure of Manila’s wealthy elite. Even as Isabel becomes increa
singly entranced with the club’s president Mr. Palanca\, she also seems
to know secrets that point to Palanca’s dark history. The film’s highl
y artificial shots of composed pastel symmetries and minutely choreographe
d workers paint a portrait of a Manila’s high society as simultaneously
banal and terrifying. The luxurious facility echoes the country’s instab
ilities: its challenges from climate upheaval amid an increasingly wealthy
elite\, its history of violence\, and its underlying class conflicts. Fir
st-time feature director Rafael Manual’s confident artisanship and darkl
y funny writing are remarkable\, but Jorrybell Agota (Isabel) is the stand
out star of the film\, as a young woman who wants a different life than ha
s been allocated to her. Her relationship with Palance maps the Philippine
s’s past onto its present\, showing how even the most elite can’t esca

DESCRIPTION:3670 is a group text code for a meet-up of a special club of f
riends. For Cheol-jun\, a young North Korean defector building a life in S
eoul\, it becomes the address of a self he has never been able to show in
public. By day he works part-time at a convenience store\, crams for the c
ollege entrance exam\, and depends on the fellow defectors who have taken
him in. But there is a secret he cannot let even his closest friends know:
he is gay. After a chance encounter with another gay man\, he is pulled i
nto Seoul’s queer social world: new friends and the messy thrill of want
ing someone who may want someone else. Park Joon-ho’s debut keeps the me
lodrama low and moves with Cheol-jun’s emotional weather\, as he experie
nces the cruelties and beauty of friendship.

DESCRIPTION:In 1979\, during a regular workday at the Center for Latin Ame
rican Studies (CLAS)\, Director Carmelo Mesa-Lago\, Assistant to the Direc
tor June Belkin\, and Assistant Director Shirley Kregar were discussing up
coming programming and asked a simple but powerful question: How can we pr
omote greater cultural awareness of Latin American cultures in Pittsburgh
while meaningfully involving Latin American communities in the region? Shi
rley Kregar proposed the idea of a Latin American Festival. While the conc
ept began modestly\, no one could have anticipated the scale\, longevity\,
and regional impact the festival would ultimately achieve. Although Shirl
ey originated the idea\, Alan Adelman organized and implemented the first
festival\, establishing a foundation of core elements—many of which rema
in integral to the event today.\n\nThe Latin American and Caribbean Festiv
al has experienced more than four decades of sustained success\, with cont
inuous growth in attendance\, artistic quality\, community participation\,
and media visibility. As Pittsburgh’s Latino and Hispanic populations h
ave continued to expand\, the festival has become one of the largest and m
ost significant gatherings of Latin American and Latinx communities in Wes
 tern Pennsylvania\, drawing students\, families\, artists\, and visitors f
rom across the region.\n\nThe mission of the Latin American and Caribbean
Festival is to showcase the diverse cultures of Latin America and the Cari
bbean in Pittsburgh while educating students and the broader public about
the rich cultural\, educational\, and community resources available throug
hout the region. Through free and open access\, the festival promotes incl
 usivity\, cross-cultural understanding\, and meaningful community engageme
 nt.
