 lture that originated among African American gay men in the mid-19th centu

 ” originally referred to a lesbian who doesn’t easily fit into the com
 mon stereotypes of gay women. Venues such as lounges for kiki (among other
  groups) were featured in the 1990 documentary film “Paris is Burning.
 ” By the end of the 20th century\, the word had evolved into meaning peo
 ple who are gathering for a good time.\n\nBallroom is an underground subcu
 lture that originated among African American gay men in the mid-19th centu
 ry. They often men dressed as women (sometimes flamboyantly) and various k
 inds of performances. One of the earliest leaders was a former slave named
  William Swann (1860-1925)\, who produced ballroom events.\n\nExpect guest
